Well, if there is such a thing as a perfect haircut, how much will you be willing to pay?
My older sister who lives in Thailand told me she paid this hairdresser who flies from Hong Kong to Thailand to cut hair for some really rich people for a week. She paid him 4,000 baht for a haircut. That's about US$110. For Thai people, that is extremely expensive. For me who lives in the US, it is still very expensive. I paid $75 once, and it was a horrible experience (bad haircut AND expensive). But she said he spent literally 2 hours on her hair, cutting it in small sections at a time. She said it was the perfect haircut because all the other hairdressers often made her hair look lopsided. She wears her hair short.
I don't know if I'd ever have the gut to pay that much for a haircut. What about you all? How much have you spent on a haircut? Were you happy with it?
Oh, and if anyone would recommend a great hairstylist in LA (especially San Gabriel Valley area) who is not outrageously expensive, I'd surely appreciate it.
Thanks! |

I pay $160 (Australian, so about US$130 I guess) but I go to a lady who always gives me a great cut and also includes a colour in this (though I don't think she's meant to). However, I actually consider $160 to be very expensive so I only go once every three months or so - which means that half the time my hair looks crappy anyway but it looks awesome for short periods of time |

I paid $150 Australian before but that included a hair treatment. Honestly, I didn't notice any difference. It was more like a trim for me! |

I found a new stylist and I really like her. I dye my own hair so I only need it cut and layered. I spend about 15CAD every time for my trim and cut but no shampoo (which I don't need anyways). I used to spend more at my old stylist but I prefer my new stylist a lot more. I've tried more expensive places where the stylist spent A LOT of time just trimming my bangs and it looked SOOOO horrible I hated it. My new stylist does my whole head in about 10-15 min and I love it everytime.
I know of many places with a lot of young stylists and they charge a lot $40CAD for a simple cut without washing, that's a lot according to me.
When I got my perm in HK incl. cut, oil treatment and perm it costs me about 500HKD or around 80CAD and the perm solution I used was a medium priced. Most of the places I see charging a lot are places with a really nice design, so to me it seems like they charge you a lot to pay for their expenses from rent and designing the place. |

My hairdressers charge £50 which is probably why I only go seasonally! If you want to go to see a top hairdresser in London they can charge you £500 (about $900 US)! |

I think here in Singapore I'm pretty lucky in that it's not so bad for a haircut alone. Director services are roughly from about $50-$100 USD. I'll go as high as $70-80 USD for a haircut. |

I've had the same hairdresser for some time now; she charges me $20 for a cut, and that includes wash and style. The most I've paid for a service is $70, that included cut and highlights, and tip.
I didn't LIKE paying $70, though. I'd never pay that much for just a cut! No way. I'd go to Fantastic Sams before that happened. |

The most I've paid for a haircut is $65. The best haircut I've ever had was free (friend's husband was a stylist). I would happily pay alot if I knew I was going to get a cut as good as the one he gave me. |

My hairdresser does hair out of her home and I pay $50 plus $10 tip for highlights/lowlights using foils and a cut. My 16 year old son has gone to her before for the cap highlights and cut and she only charged $25! |

After I went to the "Long Hair Specialist" in Pasadena who charged me $75 (and I even gave him $5 tips), I truly hated my haircut from him. I thought I would never spend that much money on a haircut again. However I guess if someone can guarantee me a perfect haircut, the kind I can just wash and go, then I'd be willing to pay $100.
In my sister's case, I really couldn't tell it was a perfect haircut, but I felt that if she was happy, then that was all that mattered. I think for Thai people to pay 4,000 baht on a haircut, would probably be the same as a person in the US paying $500 on a haircut.
Lynn, what do you think?
Whenever I went to visit family in Thailand, I'd go to this guy who cuts hair well (in my mind but last time he didn't do that great a job), and he charged 700 baht or about $15. This is already considered expensive for Thai people. He's the top stylist in Bangkok, so we can equate him to some stylist in Beverly Hills who would charge $80 for the same haircut. That's the extent of my splurge with the exclusion of that one-time $75 haircut with the Long Hair Specialist who is so NOT a long hair specialist. |

I've got your girl! No, really.
For years, I went to Beverly Hills to get my hair cut. Great cut, $45.
Now I have less $$$, so my friend was giving me trims. Then I decided to grow it out, and try henna, and... needed some intervention.
I asked around Trader Joe's -- the women who look together and stylish and creative.
Fantastic Sam's. Corner of Colorado and Central, across from the Glendale Galleria. Sylva. $14.95 = $5.00 tip. One of the few haircuts I've ever gotten that I didn't come home and "correct." I've sent friends who have gotten cut, color and highlihts, and they looked like they'd had a makover.
Sylva. Walk-in. Very fast, expert care.
I guarantee her to you. |

Sidda, thank you for the recommendation! I have a very silly question, but would you know if she could cut an Asian person's hair just as well? (I am asking because I went to a salon where the stylist was hispanic, and he did a great job on this girl at work who was hispanic, but he did not do a great job on my hair, so I thought it must have been because he was more used to hispanic hair types.)
Also, does Sylva work only M-F? |

I guess you mean "straight"? I don't know. Sylva, herself, is Armenian. I dont' even know what Hispanic hair is.
I'm sure she can cut anyone's hair. When one friend went in, she said "Your hair is very different from your friend's hair." It guess it is, though I'm not sure why she mentioned it. I do know she did a pretty miraculous job on both.
She is off M and W, so weekends should not be a problem. |

LOL I guess Asian hair comes in all types, but my hair is a bit coarse and frizzy, but some is fine and perfectly straight (I wish all of it were like that). I have pretty thick hair, or at least all the stylists seem to complain about that. Anyway THANK YOU! for recommending Sylva. I will DEFINITELY go to her for my next cut. My last cut was in early Feb about 3-4 weeks ago, and I try not to cut it too often because I am trying hard to grow my hair out more. So it won't be for another month or so before I can cut it again.
Do you know if she can recommend a style that will suit your face? Is she good with long hair? |

Okay I would spend a lot for perfect hair. My hair... is crazy. lol It is an unruly curl. The most I have spent was $120 but that was with color correction, dye, wash, and cut. That was a lady I knew working out of her home. I got a present from a friend to get my hair done at a salon once and it was almost 200 for just dye, wash, and cut. I have very thick hair. Anyway, my only perfect cut was $40 bucks. I was sooo happy with it I gave her a $30 dollar tip. She spent two and a half hours washing, cutting, and blow drying my hair straight. The blow drying straight thing was the most amazing part because many stylists have attempted this before and she was the only one who has EVER succeeded. I had shiny beautiful hair commercial hair. |

Best long hair cut I had was $75 and worth it. I know it can go much higher. Best major change haircut was on the back of a ship while working on it. A friend cut my long hair to the first short cut I ever had and I loved it. Getting a cut tomorrow in Seattle, first in over a year so in desperate need. Not sure what it will cost but if it looks good it's worth a little $$. |

I cut it my self. Fringe every 3-4weeks and ends when I'm bored enough to go through snipping off split ends. my hair is really long though so it isn't really styled.
Best haircut was as a demo model for Trevor Sorbie. The most faboulous asymetrical cut that lasted forever because it actually grew better! |

Ouch! $200 is a lot for a haircut. Did you at least like it? If you did, then it was worth it. |

$75 USD is the max I would be willing to pay for just a haircut, but that would include major cutting into a new style (not just a trim), and tips on how to style it (since I am very uncoordinated). |
