I've read that rosehip oil is not good for oily, acne-prone skin types, because it can clog pores.

thanks for posting that, boski.
a while back i became overzealous with the rosehip oil, and it broke my normal to dry skin out. now i just spot treat my broken caps; a little experiment that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
if you look up the thread recently on "bumpy skin" posted by razinkane, you will see that a lot of people broke out in congested bumps from rosehip seed oil. it is strong stuff--when i put it on, i feel a slight numbing effect.
i love weleda's rose oil capsules, because i feel like i am getting the rich nousishing oils i need, but without the adverse effects--i can use it as well as an oily skin can! hth!

I think that to some extent, it depends on the individual's skin AND the context of what other products they are using at the same time.
Last year, I was weathering a painful outbreak of cystic inflammatory acne - about 5 to 6 of these on either side of my face. The type that grows from deep under the skin and never comes to a head.
Taking guidance from Skin Actives, I treated the outbreak with daily yoghurt aspirin masks AND moisturised with a 50/50 mix of seakelp bioferment and rosehip seed oil every night. The result? Full recovery after 10 weeks. |

The rosehip oil I have is so thick I have difficulty getting it out of the regular essential oil dropper bottle it came in. It was cheap - NOW brand.
I just got my 1st order from Candessence and am loving all that I ordered. Her "Eye'll Be You" oil blend comes in a roll-on bottle and has: Golden Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Rosehip Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Tocopherol (Plant-based Vitamin E), Lavender Oil, Neroli Oil, Jasmin Absolute, Rosewood Oil, Orange Oil & Ylang Ylang Oil (Essential Oils), Rosemary Extract. It seems that rosehip oils ain't all rosehip oils? I got mine from Skin Actives, it is the consistency of "normal carrier oil", no problems with getting it out via a dropper, orangey-red colour and smells divine. Theirs is apparently cold-pressed from Chile, as is Garden of Wisdom's. |

I'm sure the NOW brand quality might not be the same as the Skin Actives one. The price was very low and it is not listed as organic.
But I want to make clear that the top of the bottle is not removable with a dropper but a "Euro dropper" bottle made for essential oils like these:

But it's not that expensive @ GOW; only $7.90 for 4 oz or $2.60 for 1 oz. Gotta look up that NOW brand now .... I just did. 1 oz for $4.29 and it is "hexane extracted" i.e. it is solvent extracted. You are better off getting it from GOW - organic cold-pressed to boot.
It might explain why some people get bumpy skin from rosehip oil ... because rosehip oils ain't all rosehip oils?
Skin Actives' comes in a 4 oz PET bottle with what they call a tab cap. I dispense it into a dropper bottle myself. |

I was ordering a bunch of other things from them (including the wonderful Lavilin cream deodorant) so I threw their rosehip oil in the cart. This is before I heard all the great things about rose hip oil on this forum. Must have had a "psychic" hunch! 
Interesting info though on their site which gives insight on recommended blend ratios:
"This natural oil is highly concentrated and should be used with care.
Suggested Use: Primarily used in aromatherapy. Rose Hip Seed Oil (Rosa mosqueta) can be added to shampoos, moisturizers and skin creams to help rejuvenate your skin and hair. Add only 5-10% oil to commercial products for best results." |

Thanks for the link - I was just checking out all their other products.
NOW only has rosehip seed oil in 1 oz though.
I have to say those euro-dropper thingies are a pain - it's like I have to shake my arm off to get any decent amount of product out. Have to put up with them sometimes when I buy my carrier oils and retinyl palmitate. First thing I do is rip them off and dispense with pipettes. |

Hey, these droppers are great for oils - I get empty bottles with these droppers from my chemist.

I have been using 100% Rosehip Oil for about 2 years now and have absolutely loved it. I have found though that the last month or so I have have been experiencing breakouts so have diluted it 50/50 with Jojoba oil and my skin is improving again.
The one I use is an organic cold pressed and I do definitely think that not all Rosehip Oils are equal. I would personally avoid one that has been hexane extracted. One with a rubber pipette makes life much easier and I always apply to slightly damp skin as I find this helps it absorb.
If anyone is in the UK and wants some, I found a thread in Martin Lewis's Moneysavingexpert forum in the Green & Ethical section with details of a really good quality & cheap Rosehip Oil that I bought recently for much less than I was paying before. |

just so you know, i'm speaking from experience. i stopped and started it a few times because i'd heard so many good things about it. broke out every time. not horrible cysts like i usually get when my skin hate a product, but bumps and clogs. which is actually not that usual for me, only has happened with some sunscreens that i can recall. then again, i'm geerally finicky about what i put on my face.... i am now using the rosehip oil on a large scar on my arm and it's doing nicely (so at least it's not going to waste). i just think rosehip was too rich for me. |
