here's the deal. i'm stuck inside, riding my bicycle on a trainer, and it's driving me mad. when it was dark or rainy or cold, i had no problem. now that spring has decidedly sprung, i'm chomping at the bit but i'm not allowed outside. my 45 minute exercise compilation *was* fine, but now it's not cutting it any more. i'm looking to add new songs that just kind of howl. it can have a strong beat throughout (like NIN's Closer) or build to the rage (like the Who's Behind Blue Eyes). explicit lyrics are fine; i'm definitely not squeamish.

i want songs that make you scream, not cry. so what songs do you listen to when you need to get your ya-yas out???

(i will also consider just great bopping songs as well as 45 minutes at full intensity can kind of get dull.)

TIA

Murder/Crystal Method/Tweekend
Weapons of Mass Distortion/Crystal Method/Legion of Boom
Wrong Number/The Cure/Galore (The Singles)
Run Baby Run/Garbage/Bleed Like Me
Vow/Garbage/Bleed Like Me
Blue Monday/New Order/International
Zero/Smashing Pumpkins/Rotten Apples

If you don't mind Hip-Hop/Rap:

thank you all! you don't know what it means to me! i've always been active, but usually mixed it up between outdoors (doing the real thing) and indoors (training). now i'm stuck indoors through the whole bleepin' summer and then some. grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

i really truly want to get my body back into the shape it was so when i *finally* get the okay from the doc, i'll be in shape to hit the ground running. *nothing* motivates me quite like music and all your suggestions will be tried. (after just doing another session with the same old, same old, i am tickled pink at the thought of new tunes!)

p.s. manslayer (since you're another fan) -- just to be contrary, the song after Closer is Happy Together by the Turtles Laughing

Always, Patti Smith. Waterboys, "Into The Sea". - I think. The whole 70's gang. But maybe you should encourage happy energy - Gnarls Barkley, Outcast, Mika, etc? Goofy stuff....

Patti's always in there, but i seem to be stuck on her Easter album. any specific songs from her others?

as horrid as it sounds, i have much more productive workouts when i rage. whether i'm actually feeling it or having to manufacture it, it just keeps me going and makes me feel cleansed at the end. (when i was training for an actual race or whatnot, i never had this problem. training now, with no goal in sight, i have to motivate myself.) as for goofy, i do make sure to always end it upbeat -- usually Smash Mouth's version of I'm a Believer from Shrek. (the Monkees version was my favourite when i was a kid.)

OMG...I love that song!! Laughing This is a great thread, though I confess to feeling wildly unhip because I know so few of these songs! Embarassed But like you, I really enjoy working out to "rage filled" music...so this is an excellent list of tunes to check out!

The Waterboys song is "This is the Sea" - killer.
Re Patti, there probably isn't anything on "Horses", but "Wave" has Frederick, Dancing Barefoot, So you wanna be a rock and roll star", etc. They might work. She has a new CD coming out, but I haven't heard it yet.

I love lifting weights to Iggy & the Stooges, two favourites being TV Eye and I Wanna Be Your Dog.

Oh, and I can't believe I'm admitting this, but another of my favourite "weights" songs is ACDC Jailbreak! Woo hoo!

La Vie, if you want howling, NOBODY howls like Iggy in TV Eye....

That is one fabulous playlist from majorb

Ace of Spades!! Yes!! I'm probably going to regret this confession but I used to dj in punk/goth clubs back in the 80s...and Ace of Spades was the one I always played when the club owner was annoying me and I wanted to wind the crowd up. Guaranteed to start the furniture flying and major breakage! Yes, I did have the plug pulled on me more than once Bad Grin Bad Grin

appletini -- i just love Iggy and the Stooges, but i don't know that one.... China Girl (Iggy's version *not* the pathetic Bowie one) is on my playlist (personal reason brhind the angst as i know it's not his most anguished song, but it does do it for me!) and I Wanna Be Your Dog is on it when i go for longer. some of majorb's are on my longplay as well, but there are so many more for me to discover -- thank you!

and, lori, nothing boring about that list at all. most of my songs are, well, kind of retro Bad Grin Deep Purple's Hush is actually on there for a bopping break. and no one can say *anything* bad about Freebird! (one of my all time favourites as well, but that's better suited for the drink *after* workout.)

lord, this is just a wealth. so many reminders and so many i've never heard! my body (if not my arse -- still adjusting to my cycling seat) thanks you! and so does my soul.... keep 'em coming as you think of them. i've got a whole summer in front of me....

I was going to suggest Closer but you already mentioned that one. (God I LOVE that song!) Don't really have much to contribute as I'm drawing a real blank right now, but there are a few Evanescence songs that I just love and really make you pound it out. Some are more whiny and blue but they do have some great songs nonetheless. I just want to thank everyone as well for such great lists. There are lots of artists mentioned that I've never heard of before. Will definitely be checking them out. If I think of anything else, I'll add them to the post.

MajorB - kick a$$ playlist. I've got to check out some of those (some on there I have but I didn't want to overwhelm the girl; hell, don't know what I was thinking)!

Loopy, you are SUCH a motorcycle rock chick! I LOVE Led Zeppelin - my absolute favorite rock!!!

So many good songs - glad my iPod's 80gb. Smile

loopylori - In my youth (long, long ago) I used to go out with a metalhead. I used to pretend I couldn't stand the music just to annoy him (he very stupidly asked me to embroider his denim jacket for him once - pah, I don't DO sewing!), but I secretly kind of loved a lot of the songs. "Smoke on the Water" is such a classic.

appletini - Doesn't it just really get your blood up, "Ace of Spades"? Fabulous song. I think I would have defo enjoyed listening (and pogoing) to your sets.

la vie - Have fun discovering all these new songs and thanks for making such a fab thread. There are quite a few suggestions I'll be trying out too.

Scally - Thanks! I was thinking exactly the same about yours. Laughing We seem to have pretty similar taste in music.

Aw, man, I LOOOOOOOOOVE music so much, like you wouldn't believe!

I am definitely going to try to find some of those sujestions from everybody & see if I can update my playlist.

There are loads of newer bands that I like (80's onwards Laughing ) I just can never remember the names & song titles until I actually hear them.
I do like linkin Park & alot of the stuff that my son plays.

Hah, yep! I'm also a serious Hed Kandi fan (Deep House, Trip Hop, etc.) - I have a serious collection and one of my fave newly discovered bands is Chicane but that is NOTHING like was LaVie requested. Smile I run the gamut but avoid gospel, smarmy and most rap.
