For those in the know, I am heading to Vancouver soon and am keen to know where the best places to shop are? Any advice for the following?
Clothes
Shoes
Mountain biking stuff
House stuff.

I don't know where you are coming from but I don't know if Vancouver is the best place to shop given the selection (compared to US cities) and 14% tax
Clothes-High end clothing and shoes: Holt Renfrew (In Pacific Centre) and Robson Street
Shoes-Holt Renfrew (expensive) and B2
Mountain biking stuff-You could try Mountain Equipment Co-op or do a search for mountain bike stores on google.
House stuff-nothing really good in Vancouver but i would say Restoration Hardware on Granville/Broadway and Linens and things |

Thanks Angelina. I am coming from New Zealand. Will be there for a holiday and thought I might fit in some shopping as well.

| Commercial Drive has some interesting shops, as does Yaletown (go to Beautymark.ca for a preview of girl stuff). If you get as far as Burnaby, you might want to try Metrotown (huge shopping centre -- check out Town Shoes there). |

 No good house stuff in Vancouver?! Go take a walk down South Granville or 4th Avenue - they have some awesome stuff. There are actually quite a nice shops for unique interior design items located in those areas as well as in Yaletown - they're all over the place so there isn't really a concentrated area I can direct you to. For clothing/shoes I'd recommend Granville Street and Robson Street.
Basically if you drive around Kitsilano, Kerrisdale or Downtown areas you'll be surprised at the type of stores you'll see. |

Shopping - my favorite topic!
Clothes: Depends on what you are looking for and what size you wear. Vancouver style ranges from regular Pacific Northwest casual wear to high end European styles. You can pick up your middle of the road clothing at the mega malls like Pacific Center or Metrotown. Nice European style clothes can be found in places such as Robson Street, 4th Avenue west of Burrard and on south Granville Street. More electic styles can be found further down on 4th Avenue towards UBC. If you wear smaller sizes, the clothing stores in Richmond which usually cater to Asians are your best bet. The sales there on things like sweater twin sets are amazing. If you like the Roots line of clothing, there is an outlet store in Vancouver. Leather coats are a good deal at the Danier outlet. Both outlet stores are on Granview Highway between Renfrew and Boundary.
Shoes: I don't really buy many pairs of shoes in Vancouver since I find they are expensive compared to the States. However, look around the malls, Robson street and Granville Street for sales since I've picked up some great deals on very nice shoes on the rare occasion.
Mountain biking stuff: Beside Coast Mountain Sports, there are several other mountain bike/outdoor stores on West Broadway between Cambie and Main. There are some stores near Granville Island on West 4th Avenue and on some of the side streets too.
House stuff: Definitely agree that Little Italy on Commercial Drive has some cool shops for house stuff. Another must visit place is Daiso in Aberdeen Center in Richmond (where the airport is). Everything in the store is $2 and there is A LOT of house stuff. While you are in Richmond, visit some of the other malls too like Parker Place. These Asian malls carry a lot of neato house stuff too. If you don't have Ikea, then you must also squeeze in a trip there.
Since you are on a cosmetic site: Check out Shifeon on Robson where I like to wander around to check out all the cosmetics and fragrances. You can also find Kiehl's and Lush on Robson too. For discount haircare and nail supplies, there is a great little place in Richmond Center that I can't remember the name of. You'll know when you find it since it is packed full of hair and nail products with a tiny salon in the back.
Oops, almost forgot to include Costco. If you can find someone with a membership card, it's a good place to buy lots of stuff at great prices. It might even be worth the membership fee just to be able to shop there.

For shoes, the first (and likely last) stop for me in Van is Fluevog's on Granville Street...I picked up the Bondgirl boot over Christmas -- if you are looking for something original and sass-assed for your feet you have to check out Fluevog!! www.fluevog.com

| I suggest West 4th, Main Street, Gastown, Yaletown, South Granville for interesting and unique non-huge-generic-mall-chain clothing and shoe stores. My favs are Gravity Pope on West 4th for shoes (www.gravitypope.com), Moule on West 4th, The Zebra Club and Cattiva on South Granville, Umeboshi on Main St for shoes, Shifeon on Robson St for beauty & skincare, The Block and Richard Kidd in Gastown for clothing, Eugene Choo on Main St for clothing, Global Atomic and Beautymark and Vasanji and Inhabit (for cool house stuff) are must-visits in Yaletown. Phew! |

High end... Holt Renfrew in Pacific center
Chanel, Louis Vuitton etc. downtown
Robson street downtown is awesome for shopping. I love going there. They have everything from shoes (high-end - low end) clothes (guess, banana republic, etc) lingerie (La senza, La vie en rose), skincare (there is this skincare/purfume boutique i love thats called Shiffion that carries a bunch of skincare lines)
If you're going to burnaby, i would recommend Metrotown mall... it is HUGE and you can catch the skytrain there as transport. This mall has everything from clothing, shoes, beauty, restaurants, spa's, hair-salons and everything you'll need on your list. |

Don't forget to go to LuLuLemon!
I love their clothes- I have about 8 sweatshirts/jackets from there, they are so comfortable and they originated in Vancouver!
And don't forget to buy our famous Purdy's chocolates!
And what about visiting EDS?

| I don't think lululemon is as good as it once was. Maybe the style/quality changed after it was bought. I prefer Vatabrasil.com (it is a real store in downtown) I find the cuts/style trendier and sexier. |

EDS would be (is) the top of my list. Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I'm heading to Vancouver in a few months as well so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread too

| Thanks to all your posts. I had a great trip over and did plenty of shopping. The tax thing always got me as where I am from the price advertised is all inclusive. Still had a great time and looking forward to going back again. |
