I am considering going in for a consult for a nose job, I had one when I was 16, but it was only to reduce the nostrils, and now that I am older, 38, the side profile of my nose has a lump that was not there when I was younger. I am nervous, and wondering if anyone has had this procedure done recently, as the techniques are so much different than when I had it done before. Any one very pleased or not? |

I think it comes down to doing your research, consulting with a number of doctors and picking the one you feel most comfortable with.
I have not had a nose job but my eldest daughter had it done last year. In the first operation the doctor did not break her nose (which, apparently he should have), so she had to go back and get it done again. This was a bit of a drama, but she is now very happy with the results and glad that she had it done. So much so, that now my youngest daughter has booked herself in for November - but with another surgeon.
So shop around, and ask to see patients' before and after photos and ask lots of questions. |

I had rhinplasty when I was 20, and a revision at 41 that took over 4 hours because my nose was literally collapsing on my face.
The number one thing I would say is to pick your doctor carefully....for my revision surgery I went with a doctor that is board certified for facial surgery. He does ONLY faces, specializes in noses, and does them EVERY week.
I interviewed 3 doctors, and immediately knew that he was the one based on his knowledge and experience. He was the last one I interviewed, and I had actually already booked surgery with someone else. (I did the last consult because I had it scheduled..thank goodness I did!)
Invest the time, do your research, be realistic about your expectations, and you will be good to go. |

Bethany, were you happy with your results on your 2nd? |

I had a rhinoplasty a few years ago and am not happy with the result at all. The doctors here in the UK tend to be quite 'conservative' and aim to give a subtle change, which of course is good but my nose loos almost exactly the same. Anyhow I have quite a few other issues with it and am planning on having a revision perhaps next year.
I had a closed rhinoplasty but I've heard that they can see what they're doing more when they do an open one. |

Yes. However, the final results have yet to be seen, even though it has been about 15 months since my surgery.
Revisions take about a year for swelling to recede...I seem to swell much more than the average person, so I anticipate that it will be closer to 2 years before it is totally gone. |

I understand that the final result may take a year to see but how long until you don't feel like a freak with a swollen nose? |

I love your computer imaging! Your after looks fantastic. I am going in on Monday to have this done so we should keep in touch in terms of the healing process. Who are you having it done by? |

Sounds good! I am getting really nervous. I am going to dr. brent smith in denver. Where are you going? Are you getting surgery monday or just the imaging? I am getting so excited!
I went to one other dr. but didn't like the look of the simulations and my girlfriend went to this dr. and she looks great! |

I think the change is GORGEOUS!!
Keep in mind that computer imaging shows what he "hopes" to do...once he opens you up, he can really see what he has to work with. But if you have never had a previous rhino and no severe breathing problems, it is pretty easy to predict the outcome.
Just be sure to severely limit your sodium intake before and after the surgery...that is the key to managing the swelling. Be sure to look for sodium in places that you normally wouldn't think of, like in diet sodas. |

Are you nervous? |

YES!!! Very nervous! I am nervous about the procedure and also about it turning out like I want. The assistant told me most people like the their nose better that the computer imaging after it is done and I hope that is the case!! I am also very active so not really being able to do much for 2 weeks is going to be a challenge. |

LIly,
cool, i will do that. I know what you mean, I am extremely excited and extremely nervous. I have looked at hundreds of B&A's though and mostly everyone looks good, so I am pretty sure I'll be happy. I just don't want them to make it TOO small, as I don't think that would fit my face.
Good luck! Can't wait to see your pics.
I will email you mon night. |

What an adorable nose you picked! (sorry, bad pun)
Hope you are doing great by the time you see this! I was never sorry that I had mine done 27 years ago, and didn't need any revisions.
good luck! |

My only advice, and the office may have already gone over it with you, is: get lots of DVDs, audio books, etc to keep you entertained and quiet so you don't get bored. A humidifier is nice to keep the mucous membranes comfortable, since you may have to breathe thru your mouth if you have packing. Make yourself a nice "nest" before you go to surgery, so you have a comfy spot to come home to: loads of pillows and your table stocked with everything you might need.
Hope everything goes great for you!! You'll be lookin good in time for Christmas! |

That is so funny, that is exactly what I have done, I went to Blockbuster and rented like 6 movies, cleaned off my nighttable for all my meds/etc, and am going to quickly clean the house in the a.m. after I take the kids to school. I think I am pretty prepared, just wish my house was cleaner. Oh well... |

HaHa - don't be thinkin you'll clean it after surgery! that's exactly what I tried to do: I had nothing to do but gaze up at the cobwebs in my bedroom! They can wait, believe me! Or enlist the kiddies to do your bidding. |

If you have one of those u-shaped travel pillows, take it with you to use on your ride home. I also used mine at home for the first few days to keep my head slightly elevated (and draining) while I was sleeping. |
