sorry to keep bothering you,i read the prices on the discount derma roller site and i was wondering if the prices apply to any length,or is it still more for the 2.0 & the 2.5? and is the 2.5 even still available?

and does anyone have any problems with the derma roller getting stuck in their skin sometimes,is this normal or do i have a bent needle that i missed?

Ace,

Kaia does not sell the 2.5mm, but Jack does (see page one of the Discounted Dermaroller thread for his contact info). His prices vary by needle length, while Kaia charges the same for all lengths.

Also, if your roller is sticking, I would definitely get rid of it...it must have a bent needle, and you could scar yourself that way!

for those of you that are using this technique, did you have it done professionally first, or, did you just dive in and do it yourself?

hi isa09

For me, this has been several years in the making (done lota reading/pondering on needling/tatoo needling). As far as jumping in - i did only in the sense that i had to push past my fears and JUST DO IT, but alot led up to that. What ultimately led me to do this was the girls on the Flex Effect forum. A few whose judgement i respected were doing it and were speaking higly of it. At first i thought they'd lost their minds - and that it was actually massochistic - then i hopped over here and these boards speak for themselves. I did not have it done professionally, but i read tons - alot of pages on this board and all of the articles that Bethany posted (and i still managed to mix some info). I was especially concerned about the potential for infection and also the potentially unbearable pain.
when i finally "took the plunge", I didn't use a numbing agent because i was uncomfortable with the disassociation - i was lucky to not need one (so far - we'll see w/ the cross hatch). As far as the topicals, i was already using them and had been for some time. This has turned out to be one of best things i've ever done for myself (but i won't go on about that)i recommend it, but YOU MUST arm yourself with information first.
m

thanks for the encouragement Moongoddess, one step at a time I will complete my obagiregimen before embarking on the dermaroll journey

Bethany, and other good ladies

How soon do you resume your routine skin care after a good rolling with 1.5mm? The morning after, etc?

I use a lot of active ingredients, and I just want to make sure that I don't over-stress my skin.

I personally do not go back to my regular skin care routine for 3-5 days. I use only the 302 A Boost and C Boost.

Hello all,

My 3 rollers will be here Mon. .25, 1.5, 1.5 3L.
I've been rereading the last few pages and it seems that some of you feel that for product penetration you'd rather the ultrasound?
Very keen on epidermal thickening myself and read repeatedly that the .25 was recomm. for that. Has that not panned out so well for you all?
I see that the 1.5 is very effective so am planning an intense bloody roll every 6-8 weeks.
Was just hoping that the .25 was effective for epid. thickening and prod. penetration as stated.
Any thoughts/conclusions so far from vets? Did so want to hear some good news re: that - I've very thin skin around upper cheeks/orbital rim.

Also one more quest if I may.
Re: 1.5 3L. I want to soften a scar from a surgical procedure that is right at the corner of my eye extending out about 1/2". For some reason I thought I remembered Bethany rolling crows feet - could have imagined it because I can't find her post re: that, but I'm almost positive that she or someone rolled close to the eyes, just don't remember what size roller.

Is the 1.5 3L ok for this area or would you all recommend the .25? This scar is where one's crows feet would be - I just don't know if 1.5 is too long of a needle for that area -
Again any info or recommen. would be highly appreciated - I do hate this scar.......and want thicker skin.....lol

EMR, I do not use the .25 for epidermal thickening or product penration because of the inflammation it causes. And ongoing inflammation turns into chronic inflammation, and causes your skin to age faster.

The 1.5mm 3L can be used around the eye - carefully. But it is probably best for you since you want to break up scar tissue in that area.

I have posted on regimens repeatedly, including my own on page 110, and pointed out the articles with the professional protocols, so you should have everything that you need.

But I would suggest that you NOT add copper peptides should you read about their "miracles," unless you limit yourself to once a week usage. CPs do help with scar tissue removal, but they can also cause some significant side effects when used near the eyes...as in horrible sagging and cross-hatched lines called the "CP Uglies." Shock I only ever used the weakest CPs near my eyes, but encountered the uglies SOOOO bad that my eyes seemed to age 10 years. It has been 6 months since I stopped using them, and the damage is STILL not gone. Mad Mad Mad Proceed with extreme caution.

Thanks Bethany,

came to my rescue again. I've read a great deal about inflammation and aging. N. Perricone has a book out about it - a very informative read.
I didn't equate the dermarolling with inflammation per se - the methodology of dermarolling and skin thickening made sense to me hence my qestion.
In any case I'll continue with the massaging...pinching....pulling...etc.
I'll use the 1.5 3L w/ caution and see what happens.
Used super cop 2 on a couple of acne scars and had major scabbing form but it healed and the result was a very noticeable elevation.
However given that I've just started 302 will stick to that w the dermarollers. SOOOO loving the 302......
I took befores so I will post results in 4-6 weeks.
Thanks again for you help!

Hi Bethany! I've been following your posts in the other Dermaroller thread, and I am in awe of the amount of research you've done and the results you've gotten! However, the thread was far too long for me to read from beginning to end, so I was wondering if you could offer me some advice please?

I have quite a few reddish/purple folding lines on my neck and am interested in dermarolling them away as TCA peels haven't had much of an effect. What topicals do you suggest I use in conjunction with the rolling? And how long of a needle do you think is safe to use without poking a hole in my windpipe (is this possible)?

I have previously tried dermarolling my thighs for drainage and cellulite at a salon, with impressive albeit very temporary results. Although it make no difference on the cellulite, I was noticably slimmer for the 3 mths that I had the treatments (once/wk). The salon charged me far too much for me to afford the treatments on a regular basis, and I've been trying to replicate the results at home without any success. Most importantly I could never figure out what brand of topical solution the therapist used on me when rolling.

In any case, my priority right now are my neck lines, and I'd appreciate any input you can offer, thanks in advance!

Swan, regarding cellulite...most of what I have read shows that the appearance of improved cellulite from dermarolling may be due to inflammation, though it can thicken the epidermis and hide it a bit. The topicals used for cellulite are very different, and typically promote fluid drainage.

This is a great link from one of the dermaroller inventors on cellulite:
http://www.dermaroller.de/us/beauty-mouse-/about-cellulite-6.html

As far as the neck lines, I can tell you that I have not had a lot of success in this area. I think dermarolling can help the skin texture, etc. but it is not good at eliminating deep dynamic lines (as can be found on your neck). I also figured out exactly WHY I have deeper neck lines than many people...I am a crappy typist, and look down at my keyboard all day! I am trying to retrain myself, but it sure is hard.

I would personally avoid the pain and agony and look at the STOP...after 4 treatments, my necklines are already more improved than after dermarolling for 8 months. Yes, it does cost more, but the results are better.

Thanks Bethany for the quick reply!

I'm sorry to hear you haven't experienced good results with the Dermaroller on neck lines. It is actually my biggest concern because I'm only 27 but I already have huge rings around my neck from lying in bed reading for extended periods of time.

I apologize for veering off-topic, but regarding the STOP, I actually inherited (well, bought 2nd hand) my facialist's old RF machine several months ago. It is a Korean brand "Poya" that employs mono-polar RF technology. I haven't had much success with it, and I was wondering if you might happen to know whether the effects of mono-polar are comparable to tripolar? Thank you!

Well, I have rolled!

I am now the proud owner of 3 dermarollers -- a 1.0, a 3-line 1.5, and a 3.0 for the body.

I started doing skin prep (vit A and C) when I started pondering getting rollers several weeks ago, so I was all ready to go when they arrived.

I did a 1.0 on the whole face on Friday night, and the 1.5 on the crows feet and nasolabial folds.

Today, I did the 3.0 on the thighs and butt.

I did get redness and bleeding on the face, but actually looked pretty okay the next day, and look fine today. I found it unpleasant, but not unbearable. I didn't numb, and I was sober.

I really bore down on the roller on the thighs... got a lot of pinprick-type blood spots, but not a lot of blood overall... not as much as I thought I might with a 3.0. I actually didn't find the thighs painful or even unpleasant -- I didn't numb, except with bactine spray to clean.

I do feel a bit like I have road rash on my outer butt now, though Laughing

Anyhow, that's the update. So now I wait, or find another area to do next week. I could see this being addictive.

I've read through this whole thread, so I'm feeling fairly confident about doing this correctly, and I know waiting between rolls is imperative.

Thanks a million to everyone for all the great info!

Okay, I'm excited about this so I'm posting again. I'm a dork.

Sweetie says my thighs look like they were attacked by a munchkin with a lawnmower.... thank God he's so good natured about all this stuff I do.

I forgot to add that when I did the face, I also did the underchin area and the throat.

I figure I'll do a roll every 4 weeks per area. I didn't roll in actives -- I have no idea how sterile they are, so I just did sterile rolls and used the actives after. If I want penetration of actives, I'll use my ultrasound. I don't use it as often as I'd like, because the gel is a pain --- I've discovered that I am more likely to use gadgets that either don't require using very often (like the dermaroller) or that are easy to use (like the wellbox).

I'm going to keep doing the wellbox along with the dermarolling.... I'm working on tightening up some very loose skin from weight loss and minimizing cellulite and stretch marks. I've been doing the wellbox religiously for about 8 weeks, every other day (almost, anyhow) and am now truly starting to see some results.

Congratulations on your first roll, birdlove. I just got my new 3-line 1.5, and I rolled with it last night for the first time. I was able to get into small areas a lot better with it than with the larger roller.

So far, I have only rolled my face, neck, and chest areas. Haven't gotten up the guts to try the body yet!

Bird, I agree with you on the caution regarding rolling in various actives. Better safe than sorry. And 4 weeks sounds fine, but doesn't hesitate to move it out further if you want to!

If you want a different area to roll, do the back of your hands...dermarolling made a huge difference for me there. And you could also do the backs of your arms and your stomach if you are looking for some tightening, though I have never tried either area myself (yet).

To anyone please,

Finally received the 1.5 DR - the last to arrive.
I think I have almost everything figured out.
Since I'm on 302 which I believe shouldn't be mixed with acids I (was an RA user and have now stopped) I thought maybe I could alternate LDrops and ABoost for a few days before rolling. Does that sound feasible to you all?
I just have one big question for you vets please, should I hold my skin taut as I roll? Stretch it out or just leave it as is and roll?
I reread the entire thread the last couple of days to make sure I had a decent cleaning protocol down and see if I could find an answer - it seems you all use bactine and or alchohol on roller and bactine on the face during a rolling session - also rinsing roller with hot water during the roll. I remember a couple of poster stating that they would hold the upper eyelid taut toward the forehead to facilitate a better roll.
Another poster asked should they hold their skin taut when rolling an area on the face but I don't think it was answered so I'm just crossing t's and dotting I's here.
I would appreciate just a quick yes or no to stretching the skin when rolling....and sorry to ask so many questions.
I plan on doing a very intense roll (sort of following polka dot's regimen) and leaving things alone for 6-8 weeks so I want to make this effort count as much as possible hence the paranoia and anal retentative query's....
OK enough of my diatribe - and again thank you to all for the helpful comments/advise you've given me...

My DR rollers were delivered yesterday! I am just waiting for the delivery of EMLA lotion before I start.

A quick question: how many strokes of rolling should I do?

How many times in EACH direction should I roll?

I remember reading it somewhere, 20 times up, 20 times down, 20 times left, 20 times right, 20 times in one diagonal direction, and 20 times in another diagonal direction.

Does it seem right?

I believe it should be 5 strokes in a star pattern over a small area of skin.

EMR I remember reading somewhere that you should hold the skin taut when rolling and I've followed that protocol. I think it also lessens the pain Very Happy

As far as the # of rolls in each direction goes, although it states 5 in each direction, I end up doing at least 10. Once I get the motion of the roll going, its hard to stop!!

I do 5 up and 5 down in each of the 4 directions (vertical, horizontal, left diagonal, right diagonal)...one small area at a time as Keliu mentioned.

Thanks Anya and Bethany,

Here's what I plan on.
Hold skin taut - 5 with med to harder pressure in each of 5 directions - about 25 rolls per area in all. Probably keep areas rather small. The petachie that Horst refers to - blood droplets under the skin - is what I shall aim for.
Bethany - I remember about the rather copious bleeding that you had - sometimes running down in rivulets on your face - (you probably already figured this out) but with your alcohol consumption that you need to disengage yourself from the pain with..lol - you're also thinning your blood which could be causing you to bleed so much more. Before any facial surgery I had - (implants) I had to abstain from wine - esp. red - for at least 2 weeks before surgery. Could also be why you've such good results. In any case I'm probably overstating the obvious...thanks again for the advise.

EMR i held the skin taut (it is suggested and it FEELS correct.) ANYA - i'm w/ you - i do about 10 (for instance an up and down equals 1) i have to MAKE my self stop cause it feels so good and effective.
