I recently purchased Lactic acid 40% and Salicylic Acid 15% from dianayonne.com. The Salicylic Acid is too irritating (should have stuck with Salicyclic Acid 5%!), but I am wondering if I can combine the two acids and get a milder application. The lactic acid is a bit thicker than the salicylic acid, so I am wondering if that is a problem.

I'm bumping this up because I would really like others' take and because I did a little bit more research. Both acids are 1.9 pH, so I guess a biphasic apporach would be OK there, but I'm still wondering about combining a gel with a much thinner wash. That 15% Salicylic Acid wash is a killer, but the 40% Lactic Acid I tolerate just fine. I tried a combo peel last night, and my skin wasn't irritated, but I'm still not sure if it was effective due to the differences in the substances.

Hi,
I'm interested in what your using both acids for- I have never used then at such high concentrations- what benefits are you seeing in using the high concentrations?

BTW- I have really acne prone skin-and was wondering if the higher concentration salicylic acid would be good for me.

I also have never seen percentages quite that high, esepcaially with salicylic acid. What is the reason for it being so high, I wonder, since SA is a BHA? I know a lot of companies are combining acids out there, to make a BHA/AHA combo -- I would put that into the search function for this site. Still those are super high percentages so not too many people on this board are going to be all that familiar with their use. hth!

I agree with the other ladies, the 15% SA is high for facial use. I have the 15% SA from DY, but it was purchased for treating keratosis pilaris on my arms. I would never use it on my face. But then again, I have sensitive skin.

As for the 40% lactic acid, from what I've read at makeupartistschoice, that should be a nice gentle peel. I myself am suffering from irritated skin because of 10% lactic acid left on overnight. Embarassed My bad!

It seems kind of wasteful to use the lactic acid to dilute the SA. I've heard some people use the high strength SA to give their feet a treatment. Wink
