I just felt like I needed to vent My skin went from beautiful less than a yr ago to AWFUL now. I'm constantly get pimples in the T-zone and beyond and the extractions NEVER heal. I've tried Ice Elements, oils, IS clinical, Naturederm, DIY, SAS pdts, the list goes on and on. I'm crying even as I write this. I'm absolutely deeply depressed about this I just want to hide from everyone. I don't find joy in things I use to, I'm completely embarassed about the way I look, and then I beat myself up about feeling this way. It's a vicious circle.
You guys don't need to respond to this, just thought it might help to vent w/ others who'd be understanding. DH just doesn't "get" it. Guess I'll try another appt w/ the derm. |

Maybe this is too simplistic..or I'm missing something..but think of what new products you've tried since then & go back to what you were using before?? If you were adding a lot of stuff at the same time..this can happen. Just relax and go back to what you were using & if you're going to try new stuff, introduce one at a time |

I agree with Marina, sweetie. Even though all lot of things could be responsible for this, product overload is the first thing that comes to mind.
Just stop everything you're doing and go back to a simpler, gentler cleansing & hydrating routine suited to your skin type. And, by all means, see your derm to see if you two can figure out the base cause.
Ari
Oh, yeah--you came to the right place to vent 'cause we totally "get it". |

I know what you mean about SCREAMING! While I have to be honest, my skin was not 'beautiful' last year, but I was always getting compliments about how young looking it was. Of course, no one knew how dehydrated it was and all the goop I put on to try to keep things moisturized. And then, my skin started changing, even with the same products! So, I started experimenting and how things are totally wild and unpredictable. It's hard to go back to the basics when even the basics seem to bother me these days. And to add to it all, summer is fast approaching and a good sunscreen is required. I've been reading the threads on sunscreens until my head is spinning, and still am undecided about what would aggravate my skin the least. ARGGHHH. |

i had nice skin last year too..then i started getting pimples on my t-zone and like u i got all the products that are supposedly meant to "clear ur skin" but it doesnt really! but right now i think its a little under control. when u get pimples, its like everyone just stares at them...when u speak to someone, htey dont look u in the eyes, but at the pimples! espec if u got a massive one/s on ur nose (which i always do). but i think im just not getting as paranoid as before. use the products that improves ur skin...even just a little bit and read around the ingredients, and with a healthy diet and lifestyle ul soon recover and get ur beautiful skin back.
but i do hate it when other people dont get me! (cos they have nice skin!!!) |

I'm so sorry tsjmom. I know how you feel. I've had acne since I was 8 but for 6 years, it was good (still breaking out) but I was able to leave the house without makeup. Then it all just stopped. Year 2005 was the year of crappy skin for me and it's been snowballing ever since. I had cysts all over my chin and they were popping up everywhere. I jumped from one skin care line to another but nothing was working.
I'm so sorry that Ice Elements didn't work out for you. I'm actually using it right now. My current routine consists mainly of Cellex-C, Ice Elements and Earth to Body. I was breaking out from Ice Elements too but then I realized that it was just their acne serum. I got their Souffle and ever since, my skin has been good (no new breakouts in the last couple of weeks *keeping my fingers crossed*). Now I just need to fade the acne scars and I'd be happy again.
Have you also looked into your diet? Certain foods break me out (i.e. dairy). |

I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes I feel so gross and ugly. I used to have what looked like boils under my skin and hormonal acne. It took me many thousands of dollars in microdermabrasion and lasers to help my condition. I have a theory that acne happens in the spot because the 1st bump damaged the skin tissue and it gets clogged easier the next time- anyway, it took years to get it under control. It was all going ok then I tried Sciton laser and that hyperpigmented my skin. I found EDS a few months ago and spent hours a day reading all the info. I've to say it helped alot. Maybe the blue light treatment would work for you? I think Advanced Thera makes one. |

Sorry to hear that you've are having a bad time with your skin.
I just wanted to say ... take a breather. The more you stress out, the more your skin/body will react. Try and do something you enjoy, get outside. Do whatever to keep your mind off your skin. It WILL clear up! Stressing about it can make it worse. |

Your not alone, I have had the same issues with my skin as well. I went off of the pill about 1.5 yrs ago and at first I would get minor acne here and there, but now its full fledged cysts all over the place. I don't want to go back on the pill as I am trying to get pregnant, but i hate having these volcanoes on my face.
I even have to make excuses for not going out with my friends since I don't want them to see me like this.
I've tried so many products as well,
Ice elements, Yonka, Juice beauty, PSF, Avene, La Roche Posay, Vichy, Pro-active, Lush, Phytomer. I still haven't found the cure! |

From my own experience I have learned that less is more really, in a hard way. The key is gentle to your skin. Don't over burden your skin with too many things at once and you will know when it acts up. I would say start with the basics, use a gentle non drying cleanser, exfoliate regularly (do not over do it) and stay out of the sun. And also get professional help if necesary. |

I also sympathize with you!! I was happy with how my skin looked only 4-6 months ago and now am experiencing pimples again, on my chin and under my nose. Those are places I never really got them before. I personally feel that my skin is going through a "life change" because I turned 40 around that time and I need to find a new groove in my skincare. Depending on your age, maybe you are going through a skin-age cycle too?? I also experienced one around age 35-36 too but wasn't into skincare back then yet, and now wishing I was |

Have you tried PROACTIV? I know a lot of Moms who have said it worked wonders for their teens. It is supposed to be great for adult acne as well. It may be worth a try! |

I really agree with Smoky and Yen plus I can relate. My skin has always been acne-prone but I could always do with some concealer and setting powder and I'm good to go. Until a year ago (2006) I totally just started breaking out like CRAZY without ANY change in my routine or diet or exercise. The doctor says it's hormonal but it began when I came back from my vacation to HK and then got worse in June after my heart procedure. I can't really attribute those things to the cause but all I know is that my skin got worse for no specific reason and I've been trying to help it ever since (that's also around the time I found EDS - thank god!). I can say my crazy breakouts have been at least controlled to a certain extent and but my acne pigmentation are there and I can't live without makeup anymore. Sometimes when I get 1-2 cysts on top of some regular acne I feel really ugly and don't want to go out either but I try to look on the bright side. There are things I am willing to do to get nice skin (investing and spending time to research good skincare) but there are other things I am not willing to do (risk the side effects and try drugs like Accutane). To me there are more important things than flawless skin and I am not willing to let it rule or ruin my life! |

Oh sweetie--- I know just how you are feeling! People should never underestimate how devastating acne is! I absolutely think you should go back to your derm--- and keep going back until you are happy with your skin! When things got really bad for me, I went in to my derm's office every week! I honestly believe that it gets to a certain point where you just can't emoitionally take the stress of breaking out all the time. What did the derm say the last time you were in? Are you on any acne prescriptions right now? I would say, go in with both barrels and stop this acne in its tracks, then you can back off and find a routine you can live with. So my advice would be to take some oral antibiotics (if this is an option for you right now), AND start with some kind of retinoid, AND get a prescription for finacea too. (I looooove finacea---- it nips swelling and redness in the bud!) ANd on top of that, get the derm to inject some cortizone into any large blemishes that are bothering you , and they will be gone in a bout a day and you will feel soooooo much better!! Hang in there girl, we know what you're feeling and we're here for you! XOXOXOX, Liz |

I understand what you feel. I used to have rather good skin with minimum outbreak even when I went to Australia, in a drier climate my skin did not went crazy. But after I came back to humid climate, my skin went bonkers! now I ALWAYS have a pimple on my face! I am not very good in skin care products, so I just use the minimum ones but always trying out things from different brands as I don't really how to tell what is good or bad for my skin... I'm thinking of looking for a derm to ask about my skin condition actually... |

i know how frustrating it can be from going from nice skin to having acne and you can't control them no matter what kind of products are you using.
What happened during that year? Have you changed your diet? The acne must be due to hormonal fluctuations. Have you changed birth control pills? or started a new birth control pill? |

WOW, thank you ALL for your heartfelt responses I started back on oral a/b 2 days ago and have been using Finacea since Xmas. The "change" literally happened over night to my skin on my 39th b'day last Aug. I've no doubt it's hormonal (what else could it be?) and I've had a really stressful year. I'm also using Avene Ystheal and IFP 2%/4% acid, but my pores are still getting clogged. The places where I extracted are red and peeling and seem never to heal. I just can't imagine feeling this way for the rest of my life
I really appreciate all your kind thoughts |

tsjmom - I know this is just something else you'd have to invest in to give a try and I'm not saying it's for everyone, but have you considered Obagi? A lot of derms recommend this as a skincare system, particularly for acne prone individuals. I've tried a lot of other products, including retin-a micro on it's own, but this system as a whole has really improved my skin more than anything else ever did. There are plenty of reviews on MUA if you are interested. You should also talk to your derm about it first.
There are defnitely a few that have had bad experiences with it, but I think there are a couple of reasons for that. One, I think some find out they have an allergy to sulfur, since it uses a sulfur based ingredient which many are sensitive to. I don't think there are any trial sizes out there for purchase, but your derm might have some sort of sample they could give you to test it out for sensitivity. I think another reason others have bad experiences is because they start out with too high of a % (retin-a) and/or don't given their skin a break if it starts to get irritated. I'm using the .05% and have had minimal irritation since I know when to back off. However, even using this system at a lower dose/rate I have still had wonderful results.
It's definitely an expensive system (around $300 for all products) but they last a very long time. I'm now into my 3rd month and am not even half way through most of them. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you soon! |

Maybe it's time to talk to your doctor. Your doctor can refer you to a good dermatologist who can analyze your skin and give you some professional opinion. Your problem can be due to hormones, birth control pill might be helpful as well. |
