In my opinion, one of the biggest social faux-pas a person can make, is to reek of b.o.! Speak to the hand You know: the kind that is so foul, that could ... gag a maggot, catches in your throat, and precedes a person's arrival? :-&
Therefore, I, as a responsible and considerate person, do not offend people. I hate to sweat too, so the stronger, the better for me. Forget deodorant, give me the strongest anti-perspirant out there!

Those who are concerned with aluminum-content will disagree with me; there is concern that high amounts of this can lead to Alzheimers disease. Until this is proven, I shall not stink, nor sweat!

The best one I've found is manufactured by Revlon: Lady Mitchum Clear Gel Antiperspirant, in the "Shower Fresh" scent. It has 24% aluminum content, is strong, smells good, and doesn't leave a white film on my clothes. Most of the clear ones on the market are so low in concentration, that they don't work. Also good at preventing sweatmarks: Dove, but it seems to me that they're decreasing the aluminum in it. Secret did that too a few years back. They made a really good one, high in content, and then launched "Platinum", which wasn't nearly as good.

LOL. Bad Grin
I have tried every antiperspirant out there, because I hate smelly pits. But as I have got older have found I perspire more. I concur mitchum works for me and my discerning teenage daughter has converted too.

I was THRILLED to find it on-sale at Shoppers Drug Mart (Canadian) two weeks ago: a special twin pack for ... $2.99! Shock

("Sniff, sniff!") Cool Nine hours later, no stinky pit-smell nor one bit o' sweat.

I have sensitive armpits, and I like the deodorants from Biotherm (Biopure roll-on) and Vichy (roll-on). I have tried many others, but some don't work, and others give me a rash. I bought the hyped-up Dermalogica Environmental Control Deodorant (no al-chl), but it stinks so bad, I gave it to my BF. He doesn't like it either, says it doesn't do a thing, except for, if possible, making him sweat MORE Embarassed So stay away from that one...

I'm using Dove deodorant at the moment. Works like a charm for me plus no white stains on clothes! Mind you, I don't really sweat all that much....

For the past 6-7 months, I have been using the Godiva Skin Care deodorant/antiperspirant because I'm in the process of whitening my underarm and part of my regiment as well. Although I'm still quite hesistant to use it since I always have this notion at the back of my mind that it will darken my underarm, but I was assured that because of it's Licorice content it won't. It has still that Aluminum content but can't remember how much/less it has, fortunately I don't have b.o, so I use it only once a day (during my morning routine), it doesn't have those white residue and it works as well... The price is bit pricey ($4.00?) than those you get from the stores since they're imported from Philippines. I don't think I'll switch to anything else yet since it's working to lighten my (underarm)skin.

at the risk of making people puke and/or further ostracising (sp?) myself I must admitt that I don't use underarm deos.. I hate the smell of them and they are bad for you...it is no coincidence that breast cancer rates are rising, even in men. If you wash daily and certainly if you shave, there is no smell except your own. It's only when the sweat gets stale that it smells. So revel in your own perfume I say! Very Happy

I think using deo actually makes you sweat more...when I used to use it when I worked in a clothes shop, I found that I sweated loads after I had removed it and that I seemed to smell more Confused
and maybe I do offend people, though only the girl I work with has ever said anything and that was that she was upset because I didn't smell of deo and therefore I must be dirty. When I asked her if I smelt bad she said no, but that everyone uses deo and so must I Embarassed

she was insane. Surely the idea is not to smell at all. Or am I missing something. Surely no smell is fine. She was probably jealous cos her pits without deo would smell like a working mans club. You stick to what's best for you. I'll just stick a peg on my nose if we ever travel down your way Bad Grin

Confused Maybe this is the case for you, but with all of the bathing/shaving efforts, if I don't slap on some pit-stick soon after, I start to smell. (peeeeyeeeeew! :-& ) And I can definitely smell my own pits. Don't even ask what this "scratch n' sniff" lady smells like after the gym. Stankzilla! Shame on you

Breast cancer, Alzheimer's ... y'know, in my personal opinion, I figure that there are SO MANY things out there in our food, environment, etc. that will inevitably lead to my death, I just don't worry about it. I was held up by an armed robber (gun to head) in 1999 and hit by a car ten months later. I was sickly as a kid. I figure that if I haven't died yet from these things, I've probably go a long life ahead of me. Smelling good Wink I eat what I want, party occasionally, stay up too late, walk alone at night, yada, yada, yada. Someone has parked a lucky horseshoe up my posterior, don'tcha think? Exclamation

I agree with Caspers mum. I think some things are worth taking a risk over and deodorant is one of them. I work with the elderly and I have ladies and gents in their 90's who have smoked and abused alcohol for years and yet they are still going strong.
Caspers mum, you seem to have someone looking out for you. Smile

I agree with guapagirl. I use Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle Rose deoderant, or Nature's Alchemy Lavender-Aloe deoderant. Altzheimer's is just so scary. My grandma had it, and the last time I saw her alive she was in a nursing home eating crayons and didn't know who any of us were.
When you first make the change from anti-perspirant to deoderant, you do smell for a week or so, but then your body adjusts. I find that I sweat less now than I did when I wore anti-perspirants. But I guess everyone is different.

Can I just say that it must have been distressing for you to see your Grandma like that.Alzheimers is a very destructive condition but to blame it on anti-perspirant is not realistic. In the uk there are over half a million people with dementia/alzheimers which although sounds a lot it is only 1% of the population and there are many factors which contribute. Right now I'm using Clarins, I find it strong enough but also gentle enough. I stopped using the 'strong' deos as I found they were clogging my pores. Although since I started epilating that area I will have to give the Tend deo a bash.
On a sad note Lush have a line of deo cystals based on bicarb of soda, and recently bought a new cream one out with sheas butter and it smells bloody lovely only problem is it makes my pits red Sad

I found tradition mitchum left really bad sticky, yellow patches on my clothes (many a white top ruined!) and even the crystal clear one wasn't sooo clear when wearing black!

I'm now using Arrid dry cream - a white pot, in a blue and white box, about £3 from Boots. I too am one sweaty lady, but with this, I find i am comfortable standing next to people all day - not trying to hide in a dark corner after about 10.30!!!!

On the subject of breast cancer, a friend's sister had it a couple of years back and Dr's told her that AP had nothing to do with the risk or onset of the disease. Opinion may have changed since then, but for the sake of being able to live my life in relative comfort, I'm willing to risk this, along with everything else I risk every time i leave my front door!

i've found, that while i can be a bit peewwy, it depends on what shirt i'm wearing. if i'm wearing a brand spanking new shirt, everything's cool + dewy, but over time (i'm sorry this is gross) sweat smell seems to accumulate in the fabric - the older the shirt, the worse i'll smell during the day. has anyone else noticed this, does anyone have any tried + tested methods to removing the sweat smell from fabric, save for throwing them out?

also, my left pit stays nice and unsmelly while my right one is the peewwy one. does anyone else have unbalanced pits?

loopy, the girl I work with is autistic so I guess she says as she finds, and, it has to be said that she found the results of my home peel a bit disturbing but came to the conclusion that I must be badly allergic to something and was quite sympathetic (for her! Laughing ) and hey! I'm NEVER mean to you Bad Grin

For those of you who don't like the idea of aluminium in deos (personally I don't care - I thought there was no conclusive research despite many studies) there's always crystal deodorant. It actually is very effective in terms of controlling odor plus the crystal lasts ages (some of them last about a year). It is not an anti-perspirant, so you still sweat just as much. However it does inhibit the bacteria that feeds on the sweat (which is what creates the odor). So, sweat by itself has no odor at all but the waste that the bacteria produce DOES. Icky huh? Confused

Btw, if you do want to get a crystal deo make sure you get a nice uniformly colored one. Ones that are more grey and look more like a crystal (you can see big crack lines inside etc) have a much higher chance of scratching your skin when you use them (this is only from my experience). The best one I have found is one called Pure&Natural made by DSA (Deodorant Stones of America Laughing ).

I've used the crystal deodarant which works well, but is not good to use after you shave--it can sting. My personal fave I've used for years is Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle Rose deodorant. It goes on clear, no stains, smells good, non-irritating, all-natural, cruelty-free, aluminum-free, and it smells good. What more could you want Surprised

Yup. I have some older shirts that seem to have pit-stank embedded in them. Nice yellow marks too, especially in the old, white t-shirts. Embarassed

I can't imagine not using something...I'm a bit envious and a bit skeptical. But hey, if it works for you...you go girl!

For me, I need the strongest anit-perspirant and deodorant there is. As for the risk of Alzheimers and/or cancer...I don't think a definite link has been established. And for now...I'll play it safe and choose not to offend those around me.

I prefer using perfume or body sprays rather than deodorants. I find deodorants too sticky and not very appealing-smelling :P

A few years ago I found a lump in my breast. I was scared to death. Cancer is not present in my family history. I couldn't understand why it happened. I told my OBGYN. She said it was of no concern. Sad
About a year later I got pregnant and the thing grew monstrous. So I went to have a biopsy (mamogram was out of the question since I was pregnant.) The conclusion was it was benine. It shrunk after pregnancy, and was to be removed after breastfeeding.
I've stopped putting anything near my breasts. The tissues around are very sensitive.
I am one of those people that sweat a lot with no exertion, even with slight room temp change. Giving up my anti-perspirant was hard, cause I have a sensitive nose, and BO is one of the worst smells! The ladies are right tho, you sweat less (still sweat tho). As long as you keep the area clean, you will be alright.

I was also advised not to use soap or cleansers to clean my breast and nipples as they are not necessary. Just a washcloth and water.

Edit: It was hormones that caused it to grow so big.
