I've read in some posts about oil that's applied to the hair before using a straightening iron that minimizes damage to the hair.

Does anybody know if there is a place in Canada where I can get some of this stuff?

What are some good product names?

I've never heard of an oil top straighten/protect hair, but there are a lot of straightening products on the market which help protect during the straightening process. One that I've tried, which was well-priced was Thermasilk's straigtening gel. I can't remember it's exact name. Not bad. I also like Redken's Str-8 (use while blow-drying) and Spray Starch. Both of these will insulate the hair shaft, and protect against thermal styling. www.redken.com

If you're using a flat-iron a lot, I advise that you also regularly use treatments in your hair. Redken's Anti-Snap is great, and a deep-conditioner once a week is necessary. I don't know your hair type to advise in that area, but hopefully, I've got you on the right track.

The GHD ceramic hair straighteners (very popular and supposedly very good) come with GHD Oil which does exactly what you're after. Have a look at http://www.ghd.uk.com/ and click on "Our range". I'm sure these are available in Canada and GHD stockists will also have the oil.

When all else fails you can get it off eBay http://search.ebay.ca/ghd-oil

Farouk Biosilk is also good for straightening. I've also heard that people use Kerastase Oleo-relax with their straightening irons. Personally, I use the Laminates spray from Sebastian with my straightening iron.

I do not overrate the GHD oil. I prefer 'Lee Stafford flat iron protection shine mist.' Or Wella flat iron spray which is the one a couple of hairdressers recommended. Smile

Very nice of your grandson indeed. If you've had 19 kids it's time to get something back! Laughing

Tinactin huh? A very interesting (and a very trademarked Laughing ) name. Is there a story behind that? I'm sure we'd all love to hear it!!! Smile

PMSL. I guess it makes as much sense as all these 'stars' naming their offspring after the places they were conceived. Bad Grin

Rolling Eyes Gimme a break! Though "Katie Mae's" posts may be funny, they're also very transparent. Someone's fabricated some grandious, elaborate, intentional jibes at the UNFORTUNATE stereo-typical of the urban, African American southerner. In fact, I've been waiting to see some comments about "eatin' grits, cornbread, pork hocks, collard greens n' gravy". `Nuff said with her note about "crackin' a 40". (to those of you not familiar with the lingo - this is a 40 oz. bottle of malt liquor, i.e. Colt-45 :-& )

Though I chuckled at the first posting, and can appreciate all kinds of humor - including filthy, rude, vile humor Embarassed ... I worry that these posts may offend others. Dave Chapelle's dvd is hi-lar-ious, but I don't want to see any of our clients offended-by or misunderstanding-of these posts.

Caspers Mum - true but hopefully everyone realises just by the plain insanity of it and the blatant use of product names and stereotypes etc that it's one big joke. Mind you, I agree with you on the misunderstandability issue. Many of us are here daily and know what's going on but if someone finds one of these posts in isolation they might actually believe it. I wasn't too thrilled when I read the reply to the "age spot" thread Confused

Btw, messaged you with a rather interesting "fact" about this whole thing Wink
