Just got my John Masters products from EDS and am loving them. Was wondering whether there are more affordable but effective organic haircare lines?

I just purchased Shikai, Jason Organics, and Avalon hair products. All very resonably priced. I have only used the Jason shampoo so far, and really like it.

I like Giovanni, you can get it at Whole Food.

What is the pricing of Giovanni in wholefood?

With drugstore regular discount, I guess drugstore is cheaper than wholefood. Am I right? Just want to compare price because wholefood is a little bit far away from my place.

If there's a Trader Joe's market near you (not sure where you live), you should definitely check out their organic shampoo and conditioner. I have had dry hair problem, and I tried their shampoo and conditioner. It's so awesome I wrote a review of them here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=20078&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The best part is it costs only $2.49 per a 16-oz bottle. Now my expensive Kerastase just sat in my shower sadly. I don't want to go back to Kerastase now.

I heard that for oily hair, their shampoo line is called Revive Spa. I got that confused with the dry hair line "Nourish Spa."

There are tons of lines out there - too many to mention. In the past I've used Nature's Gate Organics, Aubrey Organics, Avalon Organics and a couple of others whose names elude me now. Right now I'm using some Druide shampoos, Giovanni Conditioner, and Desert Essence Shampoo and Conditioner. I'm dying to try the John Masters line and will hopefully get the money to splurge on that soon. Smile

Avalon Organics is the top-rated in our house. Great scents, good lather, nice conditioning and a really good price.

DH's absolute favorite in the line is the Tea Tree Mint, which even though they call it a treatment shampoo, he uses every morning. One bottle lasts him a good month, even with daily washing, so it is really good value. we also have the lavender and the lemon clarifying.

another line that I recently bought, but have not tried is the Alchemy range from Australia (same company as A'kin skincare).

I am probably the only person on the board who would give a HUGE thumbs down to the Desert Essences (well at least the grape one.. smell aside, it was horrible for my hair)

Giovanni is worth a try, their products are really nice.

Weleda also makes some nice haircare products (I love their Rosemary Hair Oil).

Is the weleda rosemary hair oil you use the one that is supposed to be a pre-shampoo scalp oil or another one?

I had the pre-shampoo one and could not really get into it.. I ended up throwing 1/3 of it out.. now I am wondering if I was wrong.. Laughing

Oh and tonight, in an attempt to reverse the scarecrow hair I was left with after Desert Essences Grape S&C, I use the Avalon Organics Lemon Clarifying Shampoo (with shea butter), followed by Alchemy Avocado & Calendula conditioner. Both were great to use (OMG the alchemy aroma is truly to die for.. very high-end botanical and essential oil aroma) My hair is not dry yet (that will take hours and hours and hours naturally), but it already feels much better (though it still feels a bit straw-like towards the end, so I guess a deep oil treatment is in store this weekend).

Hi Tiger Tim!

I suppose it could be used as a pre-shampoo treatment (and it may very well be its intended use), but I actually use a tiny, tiny, tiny amount (and I mean tiny or else you'll have an oil slick hairdoo on your hands Rolling Eyes ) after shampooing & conditioning. And I really like the results... leaves my hair sily & shiny.

I've used the Weleda Rosemary hair oil as well. Got it as a free gift once along with an order I placed. It was pretty good. I liked using it as an occasional hair treatment. I would slather my hair in the oil (which didn't take much as my hair is super fine), wrap it up in a bun, leave it in all day, and then wash it out before bed. Of course this is something you would do when you are not going out or expecting company. The refreshing scent is also a great pick me up and very soothing in the winter time.

I'm so confused by all these products. Do you all think the cheaper ones are as good as the expensive ones? Also, are these natural hair care products better than Biolage or some of the other salon products?

I've tried Giovanni's magnetically charged shampoo and really liked it. (I've never tried the matching conditioner though.) The other Giovanni shampoos that I've tried seemed too drying for my hair. The magnetic one was moisturizing, cleansed well and had a nice light clean scent (and the shampoo itself is a sparkley grey which was cool). After using it for a couple of weeks it seemed like my hair was shinier.

NOW, I am using BBS's Moisturizing shampoo and it's my fav shampoo. I really like the ingredients- very natural. Today I did an experiment and didn't use any conditioner after using it. After showering, I was very surprised to find that my hair was not too hard to comb out (normally, my hair is VERY tangled if I don't condition it). I was even more surprised Surprised to find that after my hair dried, it was as if I had used conditioner but even better was that my hair wasn't weighted down and therefore looked better. I might just order the JM Neroli detangler (as a leave in on my roots) and then I'd be set....

In regard to BBS, I can't speak for their conditioner b/c I haven't tried it yet (though, word out is that it's not like a traditional conditioner, more like a treatment that you have to wash out).

The Organic Pharmacy Smile

My niece is super sensitive and love the shampoo from them. It's a everything free shampoo! no preservative, no sulphates and just pure organic products.

i've tried the rose shampoo and it smells gorgeous. took some getting used to as i felt it stripped my hair initially. now, when i use other shampoo, i feel like it leaves a layer of film on my scalp and hair!
