So every year I am on the hunt for the latest and greatest in Self Tanners.
Since I started getting religious about not baking in the sun a few years back (ah, I so remember the days of iodine and baby oil for sun protection ) I don't actively try to get a tan, but do like to look healthy and sun kissed if at all possible.
I've tried all the ones that are hyped yearly - and have gone through all the latest gradual self tanners in a lotion format (i.e. Jergens Glow, etc., etc) but the problem is they all develop yellow on me - not tan - yellow.
When I tanned naturally I turn a nice kind of reddish brown - not yellow-y....but for some reason, self-tanners develop goldy-yellow on me. Not a good look for my skin.
So any recs on anything new that's garnering buzz out there that won't turn me yellow? Looking for ease in application, natural looking....etc etc.....
Thanks!

For the face, I'd recommend Clarins Liquid Bronze.
For the body, I've just reviewed a fantastic, very natural-looking self-tanner (although it does give a golden colour - not yellow or orange, though) - it's called Makebelieve Self Tanning Lotion.
Otherwise, as long as you don't mind the usual fake tan smell and also as long as you moisturise well beforehand, Piz Buin spray tan gives a good, natural, non-orangey colour.
Check out tangal's posts for other suggestions. She's the Fake Tan Queen and knows just about everything there is to know about it - a real mine of excellent info. |

I have had the same problem. I received Murad self tanner as a freebie from EDS (Thank you) and it works beautifully. You just apply a thin layer for about a week and you have a golden tan. Not yellow, not orange. Your skin is golden tan. Give it a try. I have tried many many and let me say again MANY brands, Murad, so far is one of the best. I also like Neutrogena quite a bit too. |

Thanks, Majorb - as soon as I posted my note, I saw your reviews. Very informative by the way...and I will be checking at least one of them out. I don't mind a golden look, I do mind a yellow look, but ultimately, I'd like a normal tan look....my skin is just disagreeable!
I'll do a search by Tangal too to see what she has to say.

I didn't even know Murad made a self-tanner! I will look into it. Thank you so much.

I would recommend something like SUN UD for a reddish tan - only problem is that the colorguide is dark & messy.
If you're really dedicated to self-tanning, I recommend http://www.sunless.com - there is a ton of good info over there.
I use an airbrush solution (you don't need an airbrush to apply) - and there are several that give reddish-brown results.
But there are many things that can affect the final color of your tan. Your shower gel, moisturizer, exfoliation method, etc. And DHA always tends to give a golden tan - so you really have to have some sort of reddish tint in the CG to 'combat' that goldness. |

You're very welcome. I do hope you can find something to suit your skintone.
I still have a Palmer's gradual tanner yet to try, and I've heard very good things about it.
But the sunless.com site that kim recommended is excellent - full to brimming of fab info. Our very own tangal is a moderator there. |
