So last week I went to get fitted for a bra and found out my correct size.
I have gone from a 34C to a 32D and whilst my breasts do look better in the new bras, I can't wait to take them off.

No matter what bra I have on I get the aching shoulders, welt marks from the straps and I feel I can't breath around the ribs.
Lace rubs and oh god no if it is on the straps!

I have taken to wearing just vest tops with a little support which are OK but my breasts look drooped and saggy when I put my top on.

The bra I was wearing when I went get fitted was the most compfortable one I own.....the lady who was fitting me said
'why are you wearing a post surgey bra when you have not had any surgery?'
I had to explain how all the straps were wide, super soft and padded.

Does anyone else have the same problems?
Am I the only Bra hater?

I have only 2 points to make here:

1. You had either a bad bra-fitter, or
2. You got the wrong bra.

The straps are not supposed to hold the load! In a well-fitting bra, the straps are only supposed to keep the bra up. When the straps are used to hold you up you will get the deep grooves and back and shoulder pain. A well-fitting bra is not only the right size for you but the right construction, as well. The cups and especially band underneath are supposed to carry the load.

A

p.s. I hate bras, too.

I'm ok with bras.
If I didn't wear them my DH would never respond to anything, because he wouldn't notice that I was talking.

I'm wondering if I'm wearing the wrong size, though.

Totally agree with Arielle in that the straps aren't meant to be bearing the weight. No wonder you are uncomfortable!

But I can totally sympathise because I have a horrible time number one finding a nice looking bra to fit that isn't beige and ugly (I'm a 32E!) and number two that's actually comfortable enough that I don't want to rip the darn thing off the second I get home Laughing

It would be lovely not to wear bras..sigh But the girls need support.

I have not found a better bra maker than Victorias Secret. Beautiful, well made, supportive and not pricey. All bras in Europe fit me awful and it torture to wear them but this US bra maker is great.

Hilarious!!! Very Happy

I take all my bras to my seamstress lady, and she sews pads--like the push-up pads that go inside the bottom half of some bras--on the top of each strap, where it rests on the shoulder.

This helps tremendously.

Really? How interesting! All bras here in the States I find to be ill-fitting, and always seem to be ordering bras from the UK!

I have very narrow shoulders so when I find the right size bra, the straps are too far apart and they slip my shoulders.

They don't have a lot of razor back bras available in Sydney and most of them don't look nice.

I went for a bra fitting in M&S yesterday and discovered I'm a 34C but have been wearing 34B! As soon as I had one of the correct fitting bras on I could feel the difference (in a positive way) so maybe you should go somewhere else and get a second opinion? See if both measurements are the same. Also maybe try a very plain tshirt bra with no lace etc. Another tip the lady gave me yesterday was never to fasten your bra on the tightest fitting (as I always did) as it causes it to stretch. I think John Lewis and Debenhams also offer fitting services and will no doubt have offers on, there were some really good ones in M&S e.g. 2 tshirt bras for £10! HTH, good luck!

Heathercolorado,
Really? That is hilarious. My mum in law gave me the cutest bra from Cavalli and I loved to look at it but the thing was torture to wear. Ditto for M&S and other brands here (tho the fitting services are excellent and the cotton underthings fantastic) For some reason the VS ones do the perfect size for me and they are so cute esp the seamless ones. I am a 36B but if I wear that size UK then the cup width is always too small. YEah and I have tried the 34C thing too and it is just rot. Some bramakers also starting to do half sizes in bras. The things we gals put up with!

I hate, hate, hate bra buying so buy them on-line from Figleaves.com. I use their interactive sizer before I buy and then I buy around 5-8 at once and keep all the ones that fit. I've never had a problem with a bra from doing this.

Have a look at their section on what a correct fitting bra should look like at...

I go braless all the time except when the blouse is too thin and the nips will show.

Some brand's size 34C is smaller than another I find. Like the VS 34C, I can wear them, but I can't wear another brand's 34C - too loose. In that case, a 32C may fit better for me.

When I do wear a bra, I don't rely on the straps to hold me. I make them as loose as possible without falling off my shoulders.

I've had trouble for years getting bras that fit. I'm a 32D and it seems most bra lines assume that 32 band gals are all teenagers with A and B cups. I recommend Wacoal for nice bras in larger cup sizes. They're a bit pricey, but I stock up when Nordstrom has them on sale. If you wash by hand and dry them on a rack, they last for a long time.

I would love to go braless, but when you're a DD cup, there would be far too many road traffic accidents if I did!

Sarah: Thatks for the link. I also have a very hard time finding a bra that feels good. I've been afraid of buying online because you can't tell how it feels. Have you returned there often? I'm usually a 40C sometimes 42C sometimes 40D but it depends on the style and maker. I've never been able to wear an underwire it always hurts!

Sharky I find it SO much easier, you can shop in your own time and try as many as you like and whatever sizes/styles you want, there's loads of choice. Yes I have returned items back loads of times, never had a problem, the package comes with a free returns label so it doesn't even cost the postage.

Maybe someone can tell me, as I don't buy bras in shops, I've never been measured by an SA so I don't know, do you have to take off your bra to be measured, ie get your tits out for a stranger?! OR are you measured OVER your existing bra, if that's the case, it wouldn't be the right size would it??!

Me too...mine are implants...I've had them for YEARS and they are as hard as coconuts (capsular contracture). I'm going to have to get new ones soon...I HATE bra shopping...My breasts are really round and do not take well to bras....I need support, but all the support bras have very pointy cups..so my breasts sit in the cups just fine... but because they (my breasts) are so round and hard, they don't fill the "point" of the bra - do you know what I mean? So I have this soft indent of material at the point where the nipple is supposed to be. It is bloody awful.....and sport bras just give me "uni-boob" which IMHO, is equally unflattering. Oh well... Using the straps to hold it up is like using a backpack without a waist strap. I was told that the way it fits around is what make the difference. One lady told me most people wear the bras to loosely around, causing them to ride up and giving less support.

I've actually been happy with the measuring ladies at Victoria's Secret. They are good at Nordstroms too but somehow the scene at Victoria's Secret is more fun. I let them fit me and maybe buy one bra at full price. Then I get the rest from the sale bins and I've gotten really nice ones that way.

Sarahb, you are measured over your existing bra. The measurement will be accurate.

How can it be accurate if you are measuring over another layer which obviously you won't be wearing with a new bra?

When I measure at home, obviously I don't measure over another bra and the fit is always perfect.
