Are you doing both the mask and the maintenance cream? If you're doing both C1 (the mask) and C2 (the cream) then I would definitely give your skin a little break before doing the mask. It is potent and you will be peeling and red from what I understand.

I only used the C2 (the maintenance cream) to help fade my melasma and that in itself caused my skin to redden and get irritated - almost raw after a while. I had to use a very emolliant, healing cream over it.

That said, after trying a million other creams (including the Rx Triluma) the C2 was the only product that made a dent in my melasma.

Now, I use Vitamin C and good sunblock. The melasma is still there, but only really noticeable in certain lights - .

Good luck if you do try it. If you visit the skincarerx board there is tons of info on Cosmelan - both 1 and 2.

thanks, i'll be doing both the mask and the cream 2, so i'll definitely lay off the retnoids and glycolic.
What emollient cream did you find worked best for you? How did you like their K cream?
Have you heard of Atopalm cream?
also, what sunscreen worked best for you? I find that to be a difficult task, finding a sunscreen with superior protection in both uva and uvb? Thanks for your input, i really appreciate it!

Their Hydra-K cream was very nice, emollient, and soothing. I did buy a tube and used the whole thing. Then, I switched to Serious Skincare's Olive Oil Moisturizer - b/c I didn't want to spend the money on another tube of Hydra-K.

I have not heard of Atolpalm cream. Was that recommended to you?

The best sunscreen for me is Skinceuticals ultra defense spf30 (physical). I know that the European sunscreens are supposed to be superior and now I understand that CVS is carrying Anthelios with Mexoryl. I may try a chemical sunscreen - not sure. I hear mixed reviews about breakouts and such. The Skinceuticals doesn't break me out at all, and it has helped keep any melasma redarkening at bay.

I also use mineral makeup which has a natural sunscreen in it.

When you first do the Cosmelan treatment and your skin is sensitive - you have to be diligent about the sun.

Good luck with your Cosmelan treatment!

Maria Very Happy
