I'm in a quest to find the perfect sunscreen for my skintype since at 41 I'm noticing some sun damage around my eye area and brown spots developing. I never use sunscreen because all the ones I've tried have irritated me. Yesterday I tried neutrogena sensitive skin spf 30, but I developed a rash underneath my eye area after just one application, I've also tried the dermalogica sheer one...forget what its called, but its a tinted moisturiser with sunscreen, and I've also tried a clinique one.
My skintype is dry and sensitive, and I prefer one without any added fragrances since that tends to irritate me also, TIA!

Have you tried MD Forte Aftercare Environmental Protection Cream SPF 30? I used it for years and really love it.
I also use Blue Lizard Sun Cream, they have a formula for sensitive skin. I also think this is a great product. |

Well this may not be perfect but the Olay Complete Defense SPF 15-Sensitive skin formula is what I have been using for years and I have very sensitive skin. I actually have a small supply of sunscreens that I will be trying since I want to replace the Olay (I want better UVA protection). But it is worth a try until you find something better! |

I have VERY sensitive skin and most sunscreens irritate me too - I have recently discovered clarins UV plus, and I love it.
When you are shopping around, look for sunscreens with only physical blocks - titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

elizasue I tried the Clarins UV Plus and it really irritated my skin. It only uses physical sunscreen ingredients but something else in it just doesn't agree with my skin! I agree that all physical sunscreens are best for sensitive skin. |

Theresa, have you tried Zinco by Linda Sy? It's very gentle. You can get a sample at lindasy.com. I think it's similar to Terresentials sun block which I bought at my local GNC. (I have both). Terresentials may have additional sunscreen chemicals in it though...Linda Sy has just the zinc oxide. |

The neutrogena sensitive one I tried also was a physical sunblock, thats why I bought it, thinking it would be okay, but there was something in it that irritated my skin, it also left me looking like a mime with the white cast, and felt really heavy on, and when I went walking the sweat and sunscreen combo really stung my face.
I also have another question...do you have to use a seperate moisturiser before sunscreen, or does sunscreen good enough on its own? I'm new to this, so bear with me
Thanks! Donna |

LindaSy's Zinco does not leave a white cast. It is transparent. Doesn't sting either, even if you "perspire." It's only SPF 20 though, with a relatively low UVA protection. That's the trade-off.
I use a moisturizer underneath my sunscreens (I use clear emu oil mixed with HA serum). |

THeresa - I'm so sorry the clarins didn't work for you! I know how frustrating it is when someone else with sensitive skin says here, try this, and it doesn't work for me
Just proof once again that everyone's skin reacts really differently to each product - sometimes I think it is a miracle we ever find anything that works! |

Thanks for pointing this sunscreen out. I would prefer to find a sunscreen for daily use that is just zinc oxide and this one sounds good. Once I go through my current stash I will get a sample. I am actually going to try some of the Bioderma ones that Skincare Central has samples of because I would like to be able to use one of the Euro sunscreens for times when I am going to be in the sun a lot but for daily use I want to stay with a physical sunscreen.

Once my skin has settled down - I got quite bad spots after using the Vichy capital Soleil, then I'm going to try the Bioderma. |

I've stated before, I'm an Anthelios lover. I too have sensitive skin and know many people have allergies to PABA in the ingredients. |

it really depends on the climate and whether your skin is oily or dry. i prefer using a moisturiser under my sunscreen (less chance of clogging my pores), but in the humid summer months i'd turn into an oil slick if i did.
as far as SS, i use the Avene SPF50+ Spray most often. however, if it's a rainy day or i'm not likely to be out that much (or if i'm going to the gym and likely to be sweating), i use Remergent Skin AM 15 moisture or their SPF 30. everyone i've let try (including those with super sensitive skin) it has really liked it. (though be warned, TheresaL had a bad reaction to their basic skincare line.) |

Hi, this is my first post here (I think!). I use Green Cream Level 3 every night and my skin has gotten more sensitive to sunscreens, apparently, apparently because many of them sting my face now. I like to use a moisturizer plus sunscreen product that will not turn my face white. Going now to read more on the site for ideas. |

marci65 -- whatever you do, don't stop using sunscreen or you will undo all the good you're doing by using Green Cream (or perhaps even make it worse). if you're having trouble with SS, you might want to cut back your Green Cream to every other night so you can tolerate using SS in the meanwhile until you sort it out.
BTW -- welcome! |

Marci, sounds like you're being irritated by the chemicals in your sunscreen. You may need to experiment with different types of ss. The pure physical ones are much less irritating than chemical ones.
For example:
DDF Organic SPF 30
Linda Sy Zinco SPF 20
Avene Ultra- High Protection Lait (I may have this name slightly wrong but it's their pure physical sunscreen) |

Thanks, PocoLoco! I will check those out, but do any of the ones you listed have the usual sunscreen smell? Are any unscented? |

Sorry Marci, I can't help you on that. I couldn't smell a skunk if it were right in front of me. |

Marci - if you check out the adverts for those SS they will usually say whether they are scented.

I got some JB (Janson Beckett) Sunblock Daytime Moisturizer spf 40. It's a lot lighter than many of the sunscreens out there but it's not a physical block like the more white creams and lotions out there. |

I have been okay with Anthelios so far, but I don't wear it every day. I just don't think I can wear sunscreen every day.
I had one from Sage, which was unscented, and seemed to be all a physical block (you apply it over wet skin). I was fine with it for about a month, but then it gradually clogged the pores in my cheeks, and caused spectacular cystic acne.
I've tried probably half a dozen or more different moisturisers with sunscreen, and they ALL make me break out or give me rashes. I think I should get myself a big hat and a parasol. |
_________________ 37, and suddenly hitting the age wall... just last year I got carded, don't think it would happen now. Medium-fair combination skin, oilier in summer. Occasional isolated, but thus more prominent, breakouts. I react to most products, eventually. |

Just wanted update since I tried the Bioderma Photoderm MAX Fluide SPF 50+/PPD 35. This sunscreen only caused the slightest irritation and while I may not be comfortable dealing with any irritation on a daily basis I think that I would put up with it on occasion for the extra UVA protection. Compared to the LRP Fluide the Bioderma is definetly less irritating for me. So it may be worth a try! I plan on getting some myself. |

I bought Olay complete defense sensitive skin spf30 2 days ago and surprisingly very much satisfied with this sunscreen! Normally, I don't buy drug mart products. Very light, does not leave your face white and what's more important, my rosacea skin tolerates the ingredients and does not burn! |

I've recently bought Shiseido's sunscreen with an SPF of 33. Its specifically for sensitive and baby's skin. Its super light in consistent (very runny) and absorbs very well. There is no white cast and its a physical sunscreen. |
