I have finally realized that I need to use sunscreen on my face when exposed to the sun. I like to surf and need a good sunscreen that is waterproof and won’t run and burn in my eyes. I also need it to be non-comedogenic as I am dealing with acne. Should be pretty high SPF (35 or higher). Anyone have any suggestions? |

Hi
I can vouch for 'Eau Thermale Avene, Lait, Tres haute protection, very high protection Lotion' 40SPF. I used it for swimming in Greece last year and have just been on a trip to the seaside in South China in humid conditions. It really sticks to your face despite all the odds and claims to be non-comodogenic. You might get the Avene spray (haute protection etc.) for your body because it will go further - that sticks too. High UVA protection, around PPD20. The only downside, apart from the stickiness, is it makes you a little white looking.
There might be something better which I haven't tried, but I can say this works.
HTH Molly
I should add - I used the spray on my body and the lait (which is a thick cream) on my face for swimming.
Oh, and it doesn't make my eyes sting, although some other SS have in the past. |

Loreal actually makes a pretty good sunscreen. It's SPF50 with PA+++. |

plasmajam,
There's a few good threads on here regarding sunscreen and recommendations from other members, just do a quick seach and I'm sure they'll show up. |

I love Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream. It feels good going on, smells nice, and, for me, works really well. |

Colorescience Face Sunforgettable Rock and Roller Ball SPF 30 is water resistant (not waterproof), and as it's mineral based, will not irritate skin/acne. |

This is my area of expertise since I had skin cancer. My fair Irish skin needs the best there is & after a lot of research I purchase La Roche Posay Anthelios. It has mexoryl in it which the FDA just approved. Mexoryl blocks out both kinds of rays best. |

I have to say that I'm now a fan of the Bioderma sunscreens. |

Oh my! Where do I begin? Well since I'm photosensitive to the sun, I'm always on a lookout to find a better sunscreen. I tried to get as much information on the tinosorb as I could. I kept e-mailing skincarecentralbiz.com and the maufacturers of tinosorb. Anyhow, usually, I feel a burning sensation when I'm out in the sun. With these? the worst I feel is a slight tingle. No cuts or fragility with my skin. No sunburn. I mix the tint and the cream together and I reapply during the day. Love it!
One day I decided to go without the Bioderma and just used my Shiseido spf 55, well that was the day I realized what a good sunscreen the Bioderma was. My face was stinging all day. HTH |

I always seem to end up reaching for Avene 40+ spray. I actually prefer it to their creams. It dosent clog pores and feels quite soothing. LRP dries out my skin, it has too much alcohol in it.Though ive only tried the fluide extreme. |

I got a sample of the Vichy Lait/ Gel and loved it (I have dry sensitive skin and it didn't irritate my skin at all). |

Thank you all for the replies, but Ineed to find a sunscreen that is waterproof and won't run into my eyes. I see a few recommends for water proof here but where do I get these? Can anyone recommend a waterproof, high SPF that won't clog pores that is available from the EDS online shopping store? I feel lost in a sea of product! thanks! |

Hi Plasmajam
You might think your request is a simple one, but a lot of us are not very happy with the sunscreens available on EDS because their UVA protection is much lower than others available.
I don't know where you live, but many of us import European SS for the higher UVA protection as that is generally considered to be the most aging part of the spectrum.
The ones you can get on EDS such as Skinceuticals Ultimate UV only have UVA protection of 8-10PPD, whereas LaRochePosay Anthelios has UVA protection of 28PPD
You can see the difference!
If you're surfing the UV rays are intensified by the environment so I'd recommend the highest UVA protection you can get and you won't be able to buy it here.
For an explanation of PPD (if you don't know about it already) have a read here of the draft sunscreen FAQ
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=15323&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25
Sorry, there isn't a simple answer if there was one I'd give it to you - honestly.
Molly
Actually a lot of people on EDS still use lower PPD physical sunscreens mostly because they tend to be better looking (less thick), but they're not happy with the choice here either and mostly shop outside.
That's why you're getting a whole bunch of suggestions and none of them are available here |

Thanks Molly. I live in Los Angeles so hopefully I can order the European product. Where can I order the 'Eau Thermale Avene, Lait, Tres haute protection, very high protection Lotion' 40SPF that you recommended? Does it sting your eyes at all? thanks!! |

You can get it fromwww.tubotica.com (and get some free samples of others while you're there). It doesn't sting my eyes, whereas many others do. Hope it works for you!
Please don't blame me if you don't like it. SS are a very personal choice in terms of texture. All I can say is I don't actually like the texture much but it's the only one that sticks to me in the Asian humidity and for swimming in Greece (so far).
(you might like to try Bioderma or La Roche Posay Anthelios FE for other high UVA protection as your free samples) |

you can try Skinceuticals but it only has a PPD of 8-10. I think surfing is an extra intense UV environment you might want a little more UVA protection than that. |

My absolute favorite is the La Roche Posay Dermo-Pediatrics spf 40 SPRAY. It is very water-resistant and an excellent sunscreen for both UVA and UVB rays. I get mine fromwww.physea.com, lwsue and wasabina on ebay. It is rather expensive but it really, really works. That's for my face.
For my body, I use the Target "same as Coppertone" spf 45 lotion. It is stable and waterproof and seems to do a good job for a low price.
For everyday use (in the office type sunscreen), I use the Cellular Skin Rx Sunaway. It has a soft finish and doesn't ball up under makeup. The LRP can do this when you apply a nice, generous helping of it. |
