My 16 y/o daughter is going to Michoacan, Mexico for 6 weeks this summer to work on a public health project. Does anyone (returning Peace Corps vol or development worker) have any tips about what to bring for space efficient, effective skincare? How do you clean your skin with an untreated water supply? (She is taking water treatment pills for potable water.)
She is oily with persistent breakouts on forehead and chin (occasional cyst). Her current regimen: AM Body Shop teatree cleanser or Olay towlette, Neutrogena salisylic acid product, and Neutrogena Cooling Mist SPF 30 SS. PM OCM, Differin or 5% BP. (she also borrows her sister's ProActive and my stuff too)
Would Cetaphil and a box of tissues be adequate? What SS would be good given this scenario? Thx. |

I would stick as close as possible to her current regime. Traveling is not the best time to change things up. Maybe pare it down to one cleanser to use morning and night, but keep up with the same treatments. You can buy small travel size containers and decant her products if space is a concern. She can also use bottled or boiled water to cleanse her face.

What about some type of facial wipes? (Maybe that's not environmentally friendly? Not sure.) There are ones you moisten and ones you don't. That might help simplify matters.
By the way Yvette, would you mind telling me what group your daughter is working through? I have an almost 16 year old who would love to do something like that...

| How about Bioderma Crealine or Sensibio? I've never actually tried it myself, but they've been recommended to me by several people. It doesn't require washing. You just wet a cotton ball/pad with it and wipe it on your face. I've heard it cleans well and even removes makeup. |

The group is AMIGOS which is a private, Peace Corps-type group for high school and college students which works in Central and South America on public-health related projects. If you want to look it up since new members can't link to web sites, google "AMIGOS link" as plain AMIGOS gets you personal ad sites!

| I would definitely also have her pack a bottle or two of sunscreen. Something that stays on well as she may not have the time to reapply throughout the day. |

Yvette, thanks. My daughter really wants to do that type of volunteering, and it would give her Spanish a boost as well. Plus, she has Hispanic heritage and I always feel bad that we don't know more about Latin America.
I will definitely look forward to hearing how your daughter likes it and what you think of the organization. Best of luck to your daughter. |

Update from previous post-
My daughter came back from Mexico and had a life-changing experience. She was able to make a difference in a small community (teaching nutrition classes and cleaning-up the public square and playground and the installation of trash cans). The AMIGOS organization seemed a bit unorganized and lackadaisical from my perspective, but in the end she was well-prepared and really loved her experience and her partners.
Living in a family of 8 kids with even bigger extended families with no indoor plumbing was eye-opening too.
The original reason for the post was her skin which came back in poor shape- very sunburned (even with SS) and pimply. The combination of no paved roads or hot water so not a good one. Bathing was sporadic. She also has many scars, scrapes and abrasions. She is over 6 ft and apparently walked into some overhead barbed wire and had other accidents.
I suppose Neosporin now and waiting for the sunburn to subside and then attacking the scars with copper peptides? I'm open to any advice. |

 I'm heading to Nepal on a medical internship for 3 months, was there anything that she found DID help with her skin, or products that I should totally avoid? |
