I use retinoids every night and occasionally, I still get heavy flaking. It's not usually a big deal unless I have an important business meeting and panic at the thought of all those people staring at my face flakes!
I have read that using an enzyme peel right before such an event will help get rid of flakes quickly, even if temporary - that's all I need - a few flake-free hours!
Can anyone recommend a good peel for such a situation? I am 45, light wrinkles, trying to stave off the inevitable....

| Elemis do a papaya enzyme peel mask, it smells wonderful, seems very gentle, no scrubbing, but I'm not sure it would help with your flakies. |

if it doesnt help with flakies, what are the benefits of this peel?
and how does this compare with psf pumpkin mask?

| My sister uses Dermalogica Microfolient enzyme peel and she loves it. I've also heard Obagi users (who experience a lot of peeling but cannot use exfoliating products) have had sucess with this product. |

| Aloette Skin Renewal Mud Mask. It's not a peel but it's great for getting rid of dry skin. I use it whenever I get that odd dry patch of skin. |

I'd recommend Pevonia Enzymo-Spheride Peeling Cream. It's worked well for me as an enzyme peel although I've never used it to specifically get rid of my flakies. I'm also using Retinol and I find using a muslin cloth every night and an AHA product really helps getting rid of my flakies. HTH.  |

Yes, the Green Apple peel is good. I found the Pumpkin feel too strong when it was on my face and therefore, didn't want to use it as often.
Another one you could try is the Ice Elements 2 Minute Miracle Exfoliating Gel. I have a love/hate relationship with this one. It took me a while to figure out the best time to use it (which is right in the morning on bare, dry skin) otherwise I can't get it to "ball up" properly. But when I figured out how it best works for me, it works really nice as a light peel to get off flakes. I would still use something stronger every now and then though. |

I used to use the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel and it's a lovely gentle peel as sarahb said. It was the first enzyme peel I had ever used, and it's not strong at all. It's completely different to the PSF Pumpkin Peel, or Juice Beauty Apple Peel for example, it's not in any way as strong as the above two peels.
It's good if you don't want to use a manual exfoliant, but i wouldn't have thought like mentioned that it would be strong enough to get rid of the flaky skin. |

oh now i wish i didnt buy it!
cos iv tried JB green apple peel (not strong enough) and psf pumpkin peel (a tad bit too strong)...so elemis is weaker than those two!
 another £25 wasted then...unless it turns out to work wonders for MY skin ! |

| yeahyeah, it doesn't mean it won't work well. I do SA peels 20%, GA 30% and TCA 12-15% yet the JM zyme mask works beautifully (and obviously it's weaker than the peels I mentioned). Not everything (IMO) has to be very strong to work well. |

yeah...sometimes i think that the stronger it is, the more u feel its working (its stupid, i know!)
the JM zyme peel...  , how u mention that makes me wanna buy it! and thats not good cos iv already gone over budget this month

Yeahyeah, it's so weird. I can never really feel it does anything while I have it on but when I wash it off, the effect is VISIBLE! You can actually see it does something. Skin is "illuminated", smooth, pores are tighter and my face feels great, soft and refreshed. All that without feeling dry or tight or too "clean".
I remember reading about it and people are almost unanimous about its good effects and they are right.
It's a WOW product, LOL. |

i just went to add this in my cart and read that its best to use in conjunction with the cleanser...do u use it too Ibianca?

LOL yeahyeah. Yes, I use it with the zyme cleanser. I don't know if you absolutely "have" to use it together. I bought it because I wanted to try something "zymey" 
And yes, the zyme cleanser is also good. The bioclycolic cleanser is fabulous and more cost effective than the zyme cleanser.
Anyway, you'll LOVE the mask. And yes, I know what you mean about having to get another job to finance it all
I remember thinking it would probably do nothing because they say everywhere that enzyme products are weaker than most others and are for sensitive skin and I thought that because I do all these stronger peels, it would probably not do much but I'm glad I was wrong.
I think it's a brilliant product |

I vote for the aspirin mask. If you need to get rid of flakies quick-try the aspirin mask.
I think PSF pumpkin would be too harsh with what you are using.
The aspirin mask is inexpensive and gives AMAZING results. I love it!
It isn't an enzyme peel, but is is a great
mask that can help remove the flakes and tone down any red.
Just my observational 2 cents |

Is this true: enzyme peels are an alternative (to manual or chemical/acid) for exfoliating?
They remove dead cells. Examples: papain and bromelain. Fruit enzymes from papaya and pineapple.
Good for fragile skin that doesn't tolerate the other ways to exfoliate? |

| I love enzyme peels. I've tried PSF Pumpkin but now am using NCN's Pumpkin which is stronger (30%). I really like it. It combined with NCN's daily exfoliator is really making a difference with getting rid of my chronically flaky nose. |
