I found this for you at Pub Med:
Vitamin E
Many women have used vitamin E on their scars, with varying results. An interesting study showed the following conclusion:
"This study shows that there is no benefit to the cosmetic outcome of scars by applying vitamin E after skin surgery and that the application of topical vitamin E may actually be detrimental to the cosmetic appearance of a scar. In 90% of the cases in this study, topical vitamin E either had no effect on, or actually worsened, the cosmetic appearance of scars. Of the patients studied, 33% developed a contact dermatitis to the vitamin E. Therefore we conclude that use of topical vitamin E on surgical wounds should be discouraged." -- Pub Med
Rose Hip Oil
Rose hip oil contains a large amount of fatty acids, which play an important role in the repair of damaged tissues, as well as in the regeneration of skin cells.
Applying rose hip oil consistently for 2-3 months has been found to improve the color and appearance of surgical and non-surgical scars.

My derm advised me against using vit E on my acne because of that very same reason. |

That's very interesting. My surgeon recommended that I use vit E oil on my surgery scar. I did and it's healed very nicely and quickly. Mind you, I don't have sensitive skin so chances of me getting contact dermatitis are slim. But, my other half has a scar right in the middle of his forehead and I made him use vit E oil (he's got sensitive skin) and the scar is almost invisible now and he's had no reactions. It's hard to tell of course if the results would be any different without the vit E oil though. Given my good experience with it, I would like to see a number of studies conclude the same thing before I stop using it personally.
Having said all that, I do also have organic Rosehip Oil and use it all over my face sometimes with no problems at all. I haven't tried it on scars though (don't have any fresh ones - and here's hoping that I won't have any for a while!).
