For those of you who have used pearl products and experienced purging...how long did this purging period last? And how severe was it?
I haven't been on anything after going off accutane (for the third time ) so I was expecting some purging, but my skin is back to looking pre-accutane
I've stopped using EDM as I think I was having some reaction to it. I'm still using the Lumiere, but i'm not sure if it was the EDM or MMU in general that my skin isn't liking...
I usually get pimples that are deep with hard white sebum is squeezed, but the last couple weeks its been the * spam * white kind and larger than my normal zits (a few mm vs 1cm)! |

| I don't believe in the concept of "purging". If you are getting breakouts after starting a new product then that product does not suit your skin type and you would be better off to stop using it and find an alternate that does suit your skin and does not immediately or within a week cause breakouts of any sort. |

Hi Hanna,
When you stopped taking the accutane other times, did your skin "purge" as a result?
There is a thread over on GoW about people having to wean themselves off of BP ... and this might be similar.
Conversely, it could be a combination of things that are happening to your skin at the moment. It could be one or more of the ingredients in either of the MMU's that you've been trying. You seem to suspect EDM rather than the Lumiere ... any reason that you focus in on EDM?
I find that when it's been very hot and humid, as it has been in Ontario lately, I have to be very careful to cleanse thoroughly ... ensuring that my pores are very clear when I'm done. I generally do this by using a gentle mist/steam for a couple of minutes to open the pores and then do OCM. After I'm very sure that all the oils are removed, I check things in my 12X magnifying mirror. I only use the steam every 3 or 4 days ... and I don't steam for very long ... just long enough to open the pores enough to the OCM to do its work.
If I don't do this, there is always the chance that some pores are blocked with what I presume is a mixture of sweat and sebum.
Only after I'm certain that my pores are very clean, do I follow through with the rest of my routine. I always have to remind myself that if the skin itself isn't clean ... whatever products I use don't have a chance to do what they are supposed to do.
Hope some of this helps ... it may be purging from stopping the accutane ... it may be purging just from using too many new things in the last little while.
The wisest course would be to back off some or all of the new things until your skin has a chance to calm down ... and then introduce them one by one.
Mary
Bushy,
Just because you don't believe in the concept of purging ... that doesn't mean that purging doesn't happen. Nor does it necessarily mean that a product is or isn't working ... indeed, often products warn that the skin will look worse before it looks better when starting to use a product ... like Retin A, etc. |

When I started Retin A in high school, my derm told me I would break out and "purge" before it got better.
It ended up working just find despite two weeks of feeling like it wasn't working and making my skin worse.
I seem to recall that that Kim@IFeelPretty mentioned that she purged with pearl cream (if I'm mistaken please correct me) but that it cleared up as well.
More recently I started Jan Marini Bioclear cream and had some purging for a week or two, and now my skin is clear and I'm still using the cream with no problems.
How long have you been using pearl products? |

| Maybe one of the ingredients in the pearl cream doesn't agree with your skin. I have been using Silken Pearl paste, both the basic and refining with no problem. In fact my skin looks better than it has in a looooooong time. But when I tried the rich and refining paste, my skin started to get congested and break out, so I think maybe one of the oils in it did not agree with me. If you are using a pearl cream with oils, maybe just try a basic pearl cream and see what happens. |

When I started using a pearl cream I got a few bumps that lasted a day or two. I personally consider that very different from the type of experience you're having. In the past, when I have started somethig new, for example, products containing glycolics I've had a bump or two. Something you might want to consider, Lumiere broke me out. I seem to have some issues with squalane.
Good luck, I think if I were you I'd stop most of the new products you're using and see what happens. What pearl products are you using?

Hi Blues,
Gee ... with all the raves I'd heard about squalane [or was it squalene?] ... I thought it was ideal for problem skin.
I had been meaning to order some for ages ... but it was just one of those things that I kept forgetting whenever I put in an order with GoW!
I'd also been meaning to try Lumiere ...
It could be that you saved me from that particular ingredient!
Thanks for that experience. |
