I've been using Retin A regularly (at least 4-5 times per week) for probably a year and a half.
I've noticed that within the past few weeks I've been breaking out / getting pimples and the Retin A, which has always worked well in the past, seems to have very little effect.
Also, a lot of the positive results I saw when I initially started using Retin A -- fresher, softer skin and a (very mild) improvement to fine lines -- seems to have dissipated somewhat.
It could be just that I'm not able to see the positive effects on a day-to-day basis...but does anyone here know whether it's possible to develop "an immunity" to Retin A? Anyone else experienced it? And if so, what might help? Lessening my usage? Alternating with another product? |

It is my understanding that after prolonged use (1-1 1/2 years) of Retin A, you have reached your "maximum" level of repair, as there is only so much skin can be repaired. After that time, you are using Retin A to mostly maintain and prevent. |

Well that makes sense to me for the general skin improvement stuff (i.e. skin tone/texture, scar treatment)... but how about acne? Retin A is supposedly to be an active drug to clear up acne. If it's not performing this function then it's essentially not working, right? I know I'm no longer seeing that result consistently. |

Hello
My understanding from my derm is Retin A is not used to clear up acne, but it is used to slough off dead skin cells when one's skin can not slough them off itself. The Retin A is not a topical bacteria remover. I used a form of Retin A in the evening to help get rid of dead skin cells and in the morning I use Benzclin, which basically removes the bacteria from my skin |

This is my understanding also, after 1 year of use, you limit use to every other day i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I believe that a prescription med called Clindoxl gel can be used for acne in addition to Retin A. |
