First post! I've been lurking around these forums for a while and decided to jump in.
Probably the most intriguing of the DIY recipes I've read is that of Vitamin C serums. Everyone seems to rave about them.
GNC sells something called "Vitamin C crystals" which I was wondering whether they would work? Here's the info from the label:
Quote: |
Serving Size 8.28 grams
Servings Per Container 27
Amount Per Serving % DV
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid with Rose Hips) 2000.00 mg 3333%
** Daily Value (DV) not established
Other Ingredients: Rose Hips Powder (Rosina canina), Ascorbic Acid
|
Also, what exactly has the Vitamin C done for you? I'm specifically looking to lighten dark sun spots and pigmentation.
And last question (I promise ): which recipe do you guys follow when making your serum? I've seen a couple posted, but want to get some opinions.

RoseRed,
I think the main thing about vitamin C is stability. So if you mixed your concoction fresh each time, or in very small batches, the GNC crystals should work -- just make sure to make a weak enough solution. You have a wide variety to choose from if you go to any health food store with knowledgeable people and a big vitamin counter. There are lots of companies that sell various forms of crystals.
There are also different forms of C, including one that is fat-soluble rather than water-soluble. |

Ok, this may sound silly but, how to make a weak enough solution? Use more water? (I want to follow Carekate's recipe with glycerin since my skin is dry.) |

I actually don't know any specifics on solutions strength -- just know that too strong a concentration of C might be a waste or might me irritating or even recrystalizing on your face. So if you have actual proven recipes to go on, you should be fine. |
