hi gals, I am from Hong Kong. Smile
Many people here, both sexes, like to make investment in stock or forex market.
I am curious how popular it is for the people in the States, Canada or Europe. Rolling Eyes

I think most people just have shares as part of employer schemes or windfalls from building societies that change to banks over here in the UK. But some people with a bit of cash to spare are happy to invest. Just a bit too much of a risk if you haven't enough cash to cope when the shares take a dip.

We invest a bit each month into mutual funds. I hate having to do it, but I'm sure I'll be glad we did when we retire and need the extra cash.

I do some day trading since I work out of our home, but I don't go overboard with it since I am just learning the ropes. I hear the Asian market is doing very well but I haven't checked it out yet. I also have mutual funds/savings accounts. But to me, my main safeguard in investing is real estate. We've done quite a few slow flips that have been successful (but we are in the real estate business) and now we've gotten our son into it. It's his second house and he's just a sophmore in college. He loves it.

its like insurance that you pay out a premium monthly and the fund manager will help u to invest your money in th funds that you have opt for at time of signing up for the insurance.

there are 3 types of risk level: high, moderate and low. of cause the higher the risk level, the higher the money return. but there are some people who prefer low risk investment.

usually for investment insurance you tends to sign up for up to 20years or so. and every few years you can opt for cash out of the profit that you have earn. or you can also opt to leave the money inside the account and let it roll on.

thanks for all your sharings~~ Very Happy

People here have mandatory fund investment as a retirement scheme. Insurance and property investment are pretty common too.

But after all, the liquidity of stock market is much higher.

i know how HK chinese likes to invest! even the elderly's sit in the bank looking at the stock exchange or foreign exchange or something!

when i was in HK, i went to the investment part of the bank and the customer rep talked so fast about the figures and all that, my head started spinning Embarassed . i wasnt there for investment reasons, just went there with my parents. but when in HK HSBC, the customer rep was selling all sorts of insurance type things which i didnt understand in Chinese and when she said she could explain it to me in english, i didnt even understand that either Embarassed . so just ended up putting my money in a normal savings account

in UK, i dont really "invest" either...have a mini ISA and thats it.

even tho i want to make money all the financial terms confuse me too much so i dont wanna bother with it

Investment is already part of US people life whether you like it or not. In US, everybody is saving money in 401K since the company gives some additional benefit. For example: if you put $100, the company will give another $50 to $100 on your investment account. However, you can only get the money when you retire. So, it's like free money to encourage people to invest.

I was wondering how much people has invested so far.

I invest in a 410K plan and then in a Mutual Fund. I don't have time to watch the markets as carefully as I would need to to make my own investments in stock.

Similar to 401K in the States, we have a mandatory provient fund here, people need to save 5% of salary and employers have to pay 5% too.
Yet people used to have their own investments in the securities, funds, currency markets.

My major investments have always been in real estate. Nothing beats it.

I also invest in the market. You need to educate yourself then trust yourself.
