Hi Everyone, After I turned 39 my skin seemed to change. One thing I have noticed and find very strange is that my pores are fusing together and creating lines I have large pores but this never happened before, they always stayed in the one spot and never joined together, if this makes any sense! Anyone have an explaination for this or know of something that may help? Thanks in advance |

Oh yes, if it is not one thing, it is something else isn't it? I am 38 years old and I hear what you are saying. I do find that although I do not know if this is what is causing this lines, but when my skin is dry..I can see the lines more. So I put a small amount of lotion (too much and then I break out) and use only conceler to cover small imperfections. If I use any powder, those lines get filled with the powder and they look worse. It is hell to get old. |

Hi, Thanks for the response I don't think this is dry skin because I'm fairly oily! I think it must be loss of collagen, that
sucks |

Yes it would be very unusual to have large pores and dry skin. There are two main factors that contribute to large pores: genetics and age. Genetically people with naturally thick and oily skin have a tendency to develop larger pores. As people get older, sun damage and decreased skin elasticity can also cause pores to dilate. The appearance of large pores can be greatly reduced in a number of ways. For example, cleansing & treatment to clear the pores of debris, excess oil, and bacteria will help reduce their prominence. This can best be achieved by using a low-strength topical that contains high retinol or vitamin C. These antioxidants help the skin increase collagen and elastin production while simultaneously loosening debris & oil from the pores. Exfoliation is also key to minimizing the appearance of large pores. You can use an at-home facial scrub (I highly recommend Epidermx II) or you can have a professional microdermabrasion treatment(s). You may see considerable improvement by incorporating a BHA serum into you skincare routine. (I use 2% BHA from ifeelpretty).
Here is one at-home treatment you may want to try:
Mix Tomato juice & Sandelwood powder together to make a paste. Apply to the skin and leave on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water then apply a light solution of apple cider vinegar & water. This paste will help the skin reduce sebum production and thus help in reducing the size of the pores.
Take Care |

Oh I know exactly what you mean about pores joining together to make fine lines. Its happened to me, or happening to me. I find too much powder or concealer only accentuates the problem and makes them look worse! Not sure what the answer is though. |

I believe it's caused by skin sagging. I noticed that about 6 months ago. If I pulled up my skin those lines disappeared. |

CP's and/or Retin-A would be good for you ladies, sounds like its loss of elasticity and collagen. |

I am quite a bit older than you kids. I never in my life had enlarged pores until age 50. Loss of elasticity is a major factor (in my case anyway). My enlarged pores are only on my chin and nose. During the summer they look worse as my T-Zone gets oily. If your pores are not kept extremely clean they get larger and can look like they run together.
Last week I gave myself a 30% glycolic, lactic combo peel. My pores look much smaller. I find Copper Peptides and Vit. C are also great for my mature skin.
I just ordered Jan Marini's Glycolic Wash to help control the pores size in my T Zone. |

I thank you for the posts I don't mind having larger pores, I always have, but when they fuse together creating a line that ticks me off
I've been using Cellex C for years, but since starting CP's not as much. I'm going to the doctor next week, Is it Retin A Micro that I ask for? That's the gentlest right? |

It sounds like dehydration. You can have oily but dehydrated skin if that makes sense. Do you take enough fish oil and drink enough water? I find that lately I haven't been drinking enough water and it is starting to show. I need to drink more water and take more fish oil. I was visiting GOW discussion board and read that you could treat dehydrated skin with rose hydrosol and followed up with camellia oil on top. I will try that once I order stuff from GOW that I need. |

Yeah my skin is weird, oily but dehydrated even though I drink a ton of water I've taken fish oil caps, maybe I should start that again. I can't remember if there was any difference. I received a severe sunburn in my early 20's and I'm definately paying for it now
How do you like GOW? I've never ordered from them. |

Hi Carol, Which Retin A do you use? I'm going to ask my doc for a prescription. I get really confused with all the vitamin a products and strengths. Glad to hear you are seeing improvement |

I've ordered from GOW a few times. Markey is a sweetheart, and the customer service is just wonderful. The products are very reasonably priced. They also offer samples on many products which you might want to try first. My last order arrived in about a week to Canada.

I ordered from them just once. At the time it took a while for stuff to get to me b/c they were short staffed, but there was a note on their web site about that. The shipping price is very reasonable. Their prices seem good, too. I saw a bunch of new things I wanted to try on their web site. |

Im using the 0.05% cream. I use it about 3 days a week sometimes 4.
You just need to work out whats right for you. I find anymore than 4 nights a week and my skin becomes too sensitive. |

Carol, That's the most mild formulation of Vitamin A you can get by prescription is it not? Thanks |

No there's actually a milder one than that. Believe me this isnt mild - you peel with it.
Ive read the 0.05 gives just as good of a result as the strongest one with less irritation.

Did you break out with this at all? I've read that it may cause flare ups. I guess I'm thinking of the gel which is probably more for oily/combo skin. So are you continuously peeling? I don't think I could handle that
I get so confused with A products, there is no derm where I live ( very remote! ) So I'm hoping my reg doctor is knowledgeable.
When your skin peels is it very noticable when/if you wear makeup? |

To all you ladies with skin behaving badly I can't recommend strongly enuf to you to consider a LED light system such as DPL.
I've come to firmly believe that it is a MUST addition to anyone's skincare routine for one simple reason - it accelerates cell renewal resulting in healthier, livelier skin.
Like anything good in life (save winning the lottery-LOL), it takes time to see significant results but I doubt you will be disappointed. It balances out oily skin, shrinks pores, reduces broken caps (altho' it doesn't even claim to do that), keeps zits at bay, reduces age/brown spots, & because it increases collagen production, the skin is denser/firmer & less fragile.
Bought my DPL system on sale from Nanci at ncnproskincare.com & EDS has Tanda, a smaller unit.
No, you won't look like you've had a facelift. But skin will behave & look much healthier & that's a good thing in my book. |

Hi, I'm just wondering how long you've been using this product, how long did it take to see positive results? I have the Beurer Softlaser and that was a total waste of money for me, So I'm a little nervous about plunking down more $$ for another light device. I'm certainly going to search more on this though, to become more informed |

dsknf68:
I started seeing real results after 4 wks. But I suspect I would have seen results earlier had I been sitting closer to the screens. Probably was a little nervous in the beginning to do so, but plucked up my courage to sit closer & could immediately feel a different sensation in my skin.
It's normal to feel these sensations since the cells are being stimulated. In addition, the skin feels slightly warm at the conclusion of the sitting (I do 2-9 min sessions in the a.m)
Tomorrow will see my 8th wk of treatments & for 2 days I 'graduated' to applying 10% VitC to skin first, then did the treatment to further 'push' it in. Since I've seen derms advertise they use LED lights at the conclusion of other treatments like microdermabrasion, etc, to enhance these treatments, thot I'd venture to do the same. And could feel the sensation in my skin of doing this.
I'm thoroughly pleased with DPL and should you decide to check into NCN for a purchase, Nanci will be very accommodating re any questions or should you be dissatisfied. Her customer care is A+.
