This is not a new product on the market, but it's one I've always sort of wanted to try. Being the hair product junkie I am, I finally bought it a couple weeks ago.

This stuff is WEIRD. It comes out of the tube a thick, dark green paste. I suppose it has a smell, but it's very light and doesn't stick to your hair. WHen I used it the first time, I don't think I got it completely worked through my hair, because it's pretty hard to distribute. It's like the consistency of vaseline. So, I put it on, and was like, "oh my god, what did Ijust do?" because it stuck to my hair. It felt like it wasn't going to come off, ever. It doesn't come out when you rinse with water, you have to shampoo it out.

So, having used it a few more times, I have say to say that it works! It works better if you rub it together in your hands before applying it, to emulsify it a little. I found it's best to comb it through (though I don't like combing my hair when it's wet) to get it distributed evenly. I leave it on for at least five minutes-- I clip up myhair while I do my shower ritual.

It really softens my hair, especially the ends which can be frizzy and dry. My hair is also really shiny after I use it-- the tops layers can get kinky, especially in hot weather.

I don't however recommend using it on dry hair like the tube suggests. It just leaves hair sticky and gross.

I've been through a few tubes of this, on the third one now I think. I *think* I like it, but at this point am wondering whether my hair is truly beyond help.

It is great for scaring people though, as one of the security guards in my building would confirm. I bumped into him on the back staircase while taking out my garbage, with this stuff in my hair and PSF pumpkin peel on my face. The poor guy nearly had a heart attack!

Haha, no kidding! Thanks for that image. My boyfriend saw me with a mask on for the first time about a week ago (we just recently moved in together, so now he sees all my primping like he never has before!) and he totally freaked out. He thought it was so funny he tried to take a picture with his cell phone!

I have used this stuff for ages, but I agree that it's kind of icky to apply directly to dry hair. Instead, what I often do is squeeze out an inch or two and add it to my conditioner in between treatments - helps make them a bit more moisturizing and weighing-down, which is what makes my hair look best!

I bought this from Vitacost, and already returned it after using it twice. I had such a hard time spreading it on my hair. It was the most frustrating experience of my life. Then my hair seemed to be more frizzy after I washed it off. I tried it twice to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong the first time. I tried to follow the instructions more closely, and it still wasn't working out for me. Sad

unlike some others, i find that it was easy to distribute through my hair, but your hair should be quite wet (but not dripping with water) and you do require a comb to do it properly. I really like this product as it gives a great shine after using it.

I use about an inch & a half squirt of this on wet hair & it has turned around my fine, dry, straw-like hair. I find it absolutely awesome! Cool

I love using this on the ends of my hair, it does state on the back of the tube to apply to wet hair and not dry.
For a really good intensive treatment I apply this to wet hair, leave it to semi dry naturally then cover with a shower cap and leave it on overnight. Next day I wash my hair as normal and it looks and feels so silky.
Bit of an odd smell though

Chimera, I remember that on their old packaging - what a load of wishful thinking crap! Besides, let's be honest, the texture was a "pomade" if anything, haha. I thought of another use I have for this stuff (I'm crazy and I'll put pretty much any product anywhere if the formulation is right!):

I shave my legs with this sometimes. It's not quite as nice as a shaving oil, but it's moisturizing and lubricating. It can clog your razor between strokes if you don't rinse well though. I find it's not the BEST solution, but I often use it if I've just cleaned out the tub from my oily adventures, and I'm feeling too lazy to do it again in the near future, haha.

Also, in a pinch, this can double for their coconut foot cream if you run out, as can the Orange Facial Cleanser - all three of these products have such similar ingredients lists and consistencies, the only thing I wouldn't do is put the hair or foot one on my face since I'm more prone to breakouts there. But I've shaved my legs with all three, and I've put the foot and face stuff in my hair before. Go figure!

i think i would be much happier with applying a nice ripe mashed avocado to my hair. maybe with an egg yolk, yogurt, honey, oil...essential oils (rosemary comes to mind). mmm, that sounds yummy...think i'll have to try it sometime. i think that would probably work well on the face during winter as well...

right now i just use organic coco creme with some rosemary e.o., massage into damp hair, clip up, wander around with my crazy greasy head for however long i feel like, them shampoo & condition.

Sadly, Chimera, I think they're all about the same price, at least as far as I've seen. But I may have some tricks for you!

I once bought out a bunch of the coconut foot cream on the outlet section of their website, because it had packaging where the labels didn't line up right - and I used that stuff for shaving and hair treatments for about two years, haha. Another trick was that they changed their packaging from the aluminum tube to the plastic one, and so many of the pre-built kits like their hair care kit and their foot care kit went on sale at every retail spot I saw, and I bought up several of those, too. The hair care kit was a plastic drawstring clear sack with a tube of the avocado stuff plus a wide-tooth comb and an adorable waterproof showercap with bee-printed fabric on it, and the foot kit was a muslin drawstring bag with a tube of the coconut creme, a pair of allegedly one size fits all cream-colored slippers with embroidered bee logos (which didn't fit my size 10 feet), and a pumice stone. Both of these kits were on sale for steep discounts all over, and who knows, you might still be able to track it down... it has a long shelf life, so if you see it, snatch it up!

Lastly, I don't think they'd be THAT hard to DIY, at least as far as a rough consistency goes - some folks who are more experienced in DIY might have better luck, but as far as I can tell, these are mainly oils and glycerine emulsified with lecithin, and maybe with some hydrolized proteins. If you're the DIY type, it couldn't hurt to give it a try. And if not, I'll definitely holler if I ever see good deals happen on these (after I get my fair share, of course!) Laughing

I am decidedly not a DIY type. Unless it's insanely easy and cheap I think I'd rather stick to purchasing the tube.
