So, I need to preface this review. For the last few months I have been weening myself off of Proactiv. First it was the toner, then it was the cleanser (which was probably the hardest), and finally the repairing lotion. I was doing it at a scary time too-- switching birth control methods. Currently, I'm on the depo shot-- low dose. Due to the side effects of estrogen, I had to choose a progestin only method. I had actually planned on using up my repairing lotion (I have a bottle and a half left), but it was NOT controlling the hormonal acne I started getting on my chin after I switched to the shot. I was applying it to my chin twice a day, my skin was drying out and my zits were not going away. I had to find something BP free that I could use twice a day; in other words, something that would not dry my skin and make my pimples go away.
So, I ordered this serum. It has salicylic and glycolic acids, as well as tea tree oil. It comes in a little blue glass bottle with a dropper. It has a bit of a tea tree smell. i use it in the morning and night, after cleansing and toning and before moisturizers and sunscreen.
I'm not unhappy with it; it definitely is better for my skin than proactiv. It's not drying at all. But, the reason I'm not sold on it is that, while it does a great job at healing exisiting blemishes (it even has seemed to have faded some old marks), it doesnt seem to prevent them, if that makes sense. I still get pimples, but they're small, and gone quickly. i don't want to totally discount the serum, though. My skin might be 10x worse if I weren't using it -- one of the side effects of depo is acne.
All in all, I think this a gentle acne treatment that does a fair job at controlling hormonal acne. I'm pairing it with DHC deep cleansing oil, PSF Papaya cleansing gel, and Alba Hibiscis toner. This is a pretty good regimen for my combo, acne prone skin. |

I didn't like this serum. I had better results with the Ice Elements Souffle and EpidermX II. |

I think this serum would work better for drier towards combo skin, or sensitive skin. If it had a stronger concentration of glycolic acid I probably wouldn't be able to use it. |

I didnt like this serum either---I cant see the results from usage and it just forms a film on the skin, kinda like the Juice Beauty blemish serum, doesnt absorb into the skin.
And yeah Violetanne, it doesnt prevent acne! And for me, doesnt even heal existing acnes. |

I am a bit surprised to read these reviews as I found the serum to work well for my hormonal acne. I needed to use it everyday, not just when I noticed a problem area, and it worked well to reduce inflammation without causing the dried up patches/scabby areas that other products would cause.
Question...I noticed a reduction in results if I forgot to shake the bottle well before each use as the tea tree oil tends to separate out. Did you all always remember to do that? Just a thought! |

Hmm, I dont think I shake the bottle before use, maybe it would've worked better? I dont know
As it was kinda sticky and oily for my skin, I sold the serum on ebay...I just cant deal with stickiness |

Shaking the bottle didn't make it work any better for me. |

I forgot to mention that! I shake the bottle gently before each use. Then I completely express the dropper, fill it back up, then use it. I agree it's best to use it everyday, not just when you have a breakout. That's what I do. I dont feel that its sticky at all. It actually sinks right into my skin in seconds. |

Update on this stuff. I recently had a pretty bad breakout, three cystic blemishes and a couple white heads, all on my chin. This coincided with bad cramps and spotting, so I'm certain it was the depo shot. But, I was dismayed the Ice Elements acne serum didn't do a better job at preventing this. Prior to the breakout I'd been using it twice a day on my non-broken out skin, and washing twice a day with PSF papaya cleansing gel.
I actually went back to the proactiv out of desperation-- bad idea! It left my face so red and it burned!
Everything seems to be clearing up now. I guess I'll have to find something stronger! I'll still use this, though, till I decided what to do. I did buy Burt Bee's Herbal Blemish stick-- I may write a review on it later once I decided how I like and if it actually did anything... |

I didn't find the IE serum to be at all effective either...I had high hopes since the ingredients are so simple. I've had alot better luck with I Feel Pretty Healing Serum & the 2%/4% BHA/AHA solution. |
