I have another PhD interview tomorrow at about 10.45 BST. I don't expect I'll get this one either but the main guy is scary as hell and would like some good vibes to keep me warn and shield myself from his evil rays!

He's probably a pussycat in real life.
I wouldn't do that thing people recommend where you imagine them naked, though. I've never dared try it myself because I'd end up rolling around the floor laughing - my imagination is way too vivid for my own good.

I had to meet with someone intimidating recently, and I tried that method of envisioning him in his underwear. It worked, but like majorb said, for days leading up to the meeting, I kept laughing at the vision in my head. Once the meeting started, though, I was fine.
It really did help, though, to keep me from getting nervous.

Urmmm. He's like weird scary! and apparently quite attractive so I really do not want to be imagining him in his shreddies or naked! also I know I will be facing some tough questions and really need to focus 
My only contact so far has been via email and he is clearly a mix of mad professor and obsessive compulsive. My colleagues just give me pitying looks when I told them he was interviewing me.
I will live in hope that he is a pussycat because if I do get the studentship (thank you all for your confidence. Far more than I feel personally!) he will be my supervisor  |

I don't have a clue how to deal with academia, but in my position I'm having to introduce myself to business owners, consultants and upper management types constantly. I do a little research prior to our first meeting so I can either dazzle them a few insightful questions or propose possible solutions to problems.
If they're egomaniac types, I won't DARE to presume they have any problems, but will instead resort to complementing them on their most recent triumph, then follow up with the insightful questions... If you tell the mad professor how astounding his most resent thesis is, do you think that will help? |

I'm trying to avoid even mentioning that I have read one of his books because he may grill me minutely on it!
Just been talking to a pal who knows him and SHE says he's a bit of a lad and I should wear my foxy suit and red lippy
I'm off to shower and primp now!

Well I thought it went badly and it did. I was asked a really long difficult question about my theoretical perspectives and I just went blank. It was down hill all the way.
I have made the executive decision that it is not too early for a bit of green fairy!
