Decided there should be a thread on makeup we love so much that it becomes hard to stop using even if it makes us look dated.
...I'll shamefully admit that my beloved white eyeliner inspired all of this Embarassed . Since high school I have loved lining the top of my eyes with white eyeliner. I don't do it that often anymore because I'm afraid I'm getting too old or it just isn't the greatest fashion statement, but I still think it makes my eyes look great! sigh

I felt the same way about my silver eye liner in junior/high school. Laughing

It was probably a good thing when I went thru a 'natural' phase and once I got over that I couldn't find it anymore.

I saw that it came back for a bit recently (last year or so). I read somewhere that you should never go thru a fad you lived thru once already. I'm glad I stuck with that, but I admit I was tempted. I think I would probably just look like an old foogie if I tried. Silver eyeliner is best for early 20's women/teens than for 30 year olds....<sigh> Laughing

LOL, Deanne, I used to wear silver eyeliner too, but even worse, I also used it to line and fill in my lips!!! Shock Thank goodness I grew out of that phase...

I have to make a conscious effort not to apply my blush as if it is still 1986. Have to remind myself, just on the apples of the cheeks, just like a "flush" not a slap! Laughing

I don't know if this counts, but I have been using the same make-up for 4 years...shimmer cream colored eyeshadow all over and shimmery brown on the lids, with navy eyeliner and the same color blush and lipstick. I've tried so hard to find something new, but not even make-up artists can help me find something I like as much. I do have different "night" looks I use sometimes.

I can remember applying black eyeliner on the inside of my eyelashes, that area right beside your eye, both top and bottom. At the time I thought it gave me an exoctic look, but one day realized that with my very dark eyes, it just looked like I had 2 black eyes. Laughing Now I apply it lightly on the outside of my lashes and my eyes look brighter and more open.

I had to laugh when I read this, I used to do the same thing in highschool Laughing

Now the technique I'm still hooked on is applying light bronzer under cheekbones, alongside the nose and temples in order to give myself a more "chiseled" appearance. I just can't stop doing that, no matter how dated it may appear...

I think if it works for you, great! I would just hate it if someone still had that big 80s hair though.

I was sucked into purchasing a green/blue eyeshadow the other week which looked OK in the shop but when I got home appeared just blue and made me look like a 7 year old playing with mum's make-up.

Oh my gosh!!!! My eye make up has not changed in the last 20 years !!! Shock Shock Shock !!! That's bad, right?? Confused ?? I must admit my eye make up is very simple - mascara and a bit of brown eye-shadow on my upper lids. For night - I'd just add a bit of eye liner. I think this looks good on me without making me look overdone.
As for the face make up (the whole - foundation & blush thing) - i recently completely changed how I do that. Now I apply my foundation (MMU), follow with a bronzer for contouring, and then just a dash of blush on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin (kinda' sun-kissed look). If anyone here watched Scallawagirl's video on the application of LH Disc makeup - you'll know what I'm talking about. BTW, that technique really works and gives you a completely different, healthy look.
Now, if only someone could show me a new way to do my eyes - I'd be all current and fresh Wink.
