I'm just curious to know which members may possibly hold esthetic/aesthetic licences.
To those of you whom work in this profession: tell us about yourselves! Where did you go to school? Do you presently work in a spa/clinic? How long have your been working in this profession? What's your favorite service/treatment to do? Any specialties? |

I'm curious about this too! I hope some of you share.
I went to a facialist and I loved it at first but after going to her several times, she was too zealous in her extractions and my skin exploded with acne and congested pores since I went to her. I have one more session left in my package and I've been putting it off because I don't want another horrible break out. |

Well here I am !
I study and work in esthetics for 8 years.I work in salon and in cosmetics departements store. For Elizabeth Arden and Lise Watier.I also work at The Body hop, Dans un Jardin and Fruits et Passion. Yeah ! I change job all the time. I am a truly cosmetics lover but the pression of sale was too much. I was unhappy. I did not like being the anoying saleperson that always botter you to buy more and more..and after reading Paula Begoun book..it made me realise how the cosmetics industry really is.
Now I work in a lawyers office. Frontdesk and administration and Im really happy. I think that when I will buy a house , I will have a little esthetics cabin so I can still do some facials, manucures...to friends and familly because I miss it. |

Hi Katya, thanks for chiming in! I agree that sales can be difficult. I worked in retail for awhile and always found it hard to push people to buy stuff.
Have you ever considered working part-time at a spa? I'm sorry to sound like I'm giving you advice when you haven't asked for it, but since you mentioned that you missed that kind of work, it might be worth looking into! |

Are you a licensed esthetician, and if so, where did you do your training? |

Caspers Mum : I live in Quebec city and I got my diploma from Marie de l'incarnation school. It is a public school that teach beautician, electrolysis and hairdresser. I choose the beauty because I can even do my own hair.. So I learn about skin biology, cosmetology, skin and body systems...the manicures, pedicures , body treatment, facials, waxing...the hole thing. |

Hi everyone, I have been a licensed Esthetician for about 6 years now. I studied at the Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada and worked at Spa Utopia in Langley, BC. I currently own and operate my own business in Northern BC, which I just started two years ago and it is going very well. I LOVE what I do and feel very lucky to be able to say that. My #1 passion is skincare because I find it extremely rewarding and I love educating people and making them feel great!! I would say number two on my list of passions is make up - I've done tons of bridal makeup but I love doing more dramatic stuff. I recently got to do the make up for a singer that was making a video so that was fun and exciting!! I could go on and on about how much I love this business and why.... but I don't want to bore all of you!! |

I don't want to interrupt Casper's Mum's thread but Sweetpea, could you let us know what lines you use in skincare and why you chose them? |

Hi Katya and sweetpea,
How long does it take for you to get licenced? and is this an international licence that would be recognized anywhere in the world?
Many thanks for sharing!

Some schools/institutions offer CIDESCO diplomas. Here in Vancouver, Dominelli International College of Esthetics offers the only CIDESCO certified program.

I know a few people whom have CIDESCO training. CIDESCO allows estheticians & beauty therapists to work internationally, regardless of where their training was taken. |

Spa Utopia has its own beauty school. The school is close to where I work and have open to public student services on campus. I went for body messages there occasionally. Not bad services for the price I paid. |

The line that I chose when I opened my business was Dermalogica. I chose it for alot of reasons but firstly because I believe in it and use it myself. They have several great products - Daily Microfoliant, Multi-Vitamin Power Recovery Mask, Daily Resurfacer, Total Eye Care - just to name a few. I've had good success with it and my clients love it. Soon I will be expanding my business and will be looking to add another skin care line but I haven't decided which one yet. (so many to choose from!!!) |

Sweetpea...I'd be interested in your opinion of the Obagi line. I'm in week 11 and really like it. It's working wonders for my skin! But, I'm concerned about using it all the time...and what to do for maintenance. If you have any thoughts on this, I'd LOVE to hear them. Thanks! |
