As the topic title suggests, can you share your tips for long haul flights. My skin gets really dry and dehydrated and breaks out on the plane! And with the restrictions of how much liquid you can take on board, I will have to look for samples and decant my products.
My tip for long haul flights are to moisturise the whole body and face before leaving for the airport (I tend not to wear ANY makeup), take some herbal tea bags for when you're on board.
What products do you take on board?
Im thinking of taking- moisturiser, sunscreen, moisturising mask to leave on, eye cream, gentle cleanser, maybe decant the rosewater so I can sprintz my face whenever I need to. And Im not sure whether to take concealer |

I think you pretty much covered all. Just remember to drink enough water during the flight.
Two must have for me when on long haul flights are: yoga pants and blind fold. |

Hmm why do you need yoga pants ?
Are they more comfortable than normal jeans or trousers? |

Oh they are 10 times more comfortable, they feel just like your second skin. Its soft and flexible. There is no way I could to wear a pair of stiff and heavy textured jeans for an over 12 hours flight. Bring a pair in your carry on and you can exchange once you are on the flight. |

I always wear baggy cargo pants and shoes that slip on/off easily. I fly A LOT and that "uniform" has served me fine.
Also, yeah yeah, I don't know if I would bring the moisturizing mask. If you're sitting in business/first class then it would be fine since you have more room and some semblance of privacy. But if you're cramped in economy, like I am most of the time, then your proximity with your neighbor may make it hard/embarrassing to put on a mask.
But one thing I would definitely bring is a hand cream. And a toothbrush and toothpaste (but you won't need it for business/first class since then you get a nice toiletry bag)
Have a safe flight and have fun! |

*sigh* if only I can afford business or first class flights!
The moisturising mask (Im thinking of taking Dr H rejuvenating mask) is like a thick cream and goes on and dries transparent, so I wont look like a complete idiot . Im sitting next to my parents so it should be fine.
I've seen some girls using the facial sheets which I have thought about but it will be too stupid looking and with all the terrorism, I think putting on a white sheet over my face will look weird.
Ohhh hand cream...nearly forgot about that...thanks! |

Lot of water!!! Hydrating from the inside out is more important than any cream. I don't practice what I preach. Getting up every 15 minutes to use the toilet is one royal pain. |

On a recent flight I took a tub of Egyptian Magic - I slapped it on everywhere, face, lips, eyes, hands, nails, feet. Its wonderful, truly magic! |

I think a spay toner is a must, and a good moistrizer. I don't know about using a mask, it sounds a bit messy. maybe you could use a paper sheet mask instead. |

I almost forgot, lip balm!
Also, yeahyeah, do you wear contacts? If you do, definitely do not wear them during the flight, your eyes will get SO dry! |

With all the current regulations on carrying liquid onboard, i've had to replan and minimalise my whole long flight skincare strategy so now i HAVE to decanter all my essential products and then place them into a clear transparent ziplock type plastic bag making sure not one item exceeds 100ml (that's the requirement) I think a Hydrating cream mask is def better than the paper sheet type-the cabin air is just way too dry and i always have some 8hour cream, saline nasel spray,i agree with the yoga pants too :)plus a nice pashmina or cashmere wrap because the airlines blankets just don't cut it i'm afraid. Oh and also remember to take an water bottle on board so you can get the crew to refill your bottle instead of getting measly glasses. Good body lotion, facial mist and eye creme is a must too plus comfy socks and a blindfold doused with a few drops of your fav essential oil. I usually shower and oil myself up pre-flight,i find that helps too. |

I'm going to be traveling to India in 3 weeks and I've been wondering what I should/can take on flight with me (or not). These are amazing tips! You are so right about the airlines blankets...I always end up lugging around a sweater or something to keep me warm. Wonder why I never thought about the pashmina.
I always find it very hard to fall asleep on those long flights and am fidgety and restless throughout. Any tips on how I can "lull" myself to sleep?

Thanks for the tips girls!
Missmia----is there a certain amount of liquids that you cannot exceed altogether? Cos I know that one container must not be 100ml+ but how big can the clear plastic bag be?
Thats a good idea about taking a water bottle on board! Cos most of hte attendants ignore my request for a drink |

yeahyeah et al. , you can only take a quart-size ziplock bag on board! That is the small one. Of course, if you a travel partner who is not so into things like that you can use his or her bag, but they have to be the ones carrying it. Each item inside the bag must not be over 3 ounces. I always place my bag so that the expensive stuff like Remergent DNA Repair are not exposed on top in case someone decides to check it out and doesn't want to believe that it is a cosmetic item! One of my friends lost hers at Heathrow airport. She thinks it was stolen from her checked baggage, but my theory is that they found the name of it suspicious. Any ideas about that? |

Hello,
each bottle could be 100ml or less and in total not more than 5 bottles. If it is more than 100ml bottle, half empty, it still won't be allowed. (atleast those are the rules).
In the flight, before I go for sleep,I usually take off my makeup (if wearing any) and wash my face with soap and water. After I wash my face, I don't dry it. While I brush my teeth, the face dries. Then on my damp face, slap on as much moisturiser as I can. The moisturising mask sounds very good. Hand cream too. Finally, I comb my hair. This ritual really helps me unwind and relax. I also take track pants/yoga pants - infinitely more comfortable than any jeans. Also, loose clothes are better than fitted clothes.
I find glass of wine/port/cognac helps to sleep:) Every cabin stocks these, so, feel free to ask. Drink plenty of water as well.
Enjoy your trip! It's nice to plan a holiday, eh?! |

Hi Vidisha
Not more than 5 bottles . Thats not fair! Thank god I can use my dad's allowance .
Do you happen to know whether its ok to take those little sample packs (they're not bottles)?
I really need to make sure I swot up on these rules and regulations before I leave |

I always take the little samples and no one has stopped me. But the big bottles should not count to more than 5 (that's what the print says).
I usually take the small tubes in my handbag - eg. the decleor samples. I have once taken a neroli oil sample as well (that was because I didn't want to pack it in lest it broke)! I think I have not exceeded 5 tubes but not sure. |

Ages ago, I got a small sample vial of Dr. Hauschka Normalizing Day Oil, and ever since then I've washed it out and re-filled it for my makeup bag and for plane trips. I put in jojoba oil or apricot kernel oil, and this last flight I also put in a few drops of jasmine EO to hydrate (even though my skin is breakout prone, I think hydration on flights is the most important thing - I find that I don't exactly "break out", but the weird humidity sort of "draws" all the gunk out of your pores, ick). I applied this super-emollient blend all over my face, and even though I looked like a grease bomb, my skin was a lot happier when I landed. If I'd REALLY been prepared, I would've also brought a small vial of powder to dust with on top of the oil, to keep the shinies at bay. I found that this oil trick really helped - I put it on when we first got on, and halfway through the flight I went to the restroom, wiped my face down with a moist paper towel, and reapplied the oil. It was SO much better than usual, that's my new flight MO. |

On the flight, I take the samples for dry skin (like Decleor's nutri-delice), if I have one, even though otherwise I have normal skintype. Just apply plenty of layers of whatever you have, it does not matter. Keep washing your face and re-applying your moisturiser when you feel dry or tired. I think it helps in making one feel fresh. |

I drink plenty of water and use IFP's antioxidant spray on my face. I also have one of those relaxing eye-masks. I got mine at:
http://www.dreamessentials.com/a_intro_masks_therapeutic.aspx
It was on a flight from the West Coast to Eastern Europe and it was worth it! Also loaded up on vitamin supplements (vitamin C a must), and don't eat too many foods/snacks that are salty! Makes you dehydrated and your eyes get puffy and you look tired. |
