Hi, my skin problems see no end in sight. It all started when I was 6-7 months pregnant and noticed a small pinkish brown, very flat blotch on my upper stomach that felt smoother than the rest of my skin. I though little of it at first, but as the months went by it began to spread. It went up to under my breast another patch apeared under my breasts and they spread together. Eventually, it skiped over my nipples and spread to places right across from each other on my cheast (where bra straps would touch). This all bothered me greatly, but I was embarrassed to go to the docter, and because at first it spread so slowly that it took awhile to cause alarm. The day I noticed that it skipped alittle to my neck and under the hair on the nape of my neck I scheduled a dermatologist appointment.
By the way this all started almost 2 years ago. I have had this for ahwile. If it ever itchs, it is just barely, and sometimes it lightens up a little bit. This part of my body is never exposed to the sun. Thanks for reading this far.
Anybody have any idea what it could be? |

I, like the other person who replied to you, would definitely recommend a visit to the dermatologist. Pregnancy can wreak havoc on your skin - I developed minor problems (rosacea etc.) when pregnant with my kids but all of the "issues" cleared up once my children were born.
I hope you figure out what is going on - post an update if you do decide to go to the doctor! |

Well, you're doing the right thing by seeing a Dr! But do a search for "plaques of pregnancy" and see if that is familiar at all. Though I read that this often itches quite a bit.
Also, apparently around 90% of women get hyperpigmentation on their skin due to hormone fluctuations brought about by pregnancy. This would not be itchy but I don't think it would be raised either.
Sorry couldn't be of more help, hope the Dr visit goes well and this clears up pronto!

I think it could be the same thing that my husband has, he went to see a dermatologist and they said it was skin fungus, they said that every human has it just some comes out more than others. My husband gets it especially when its hot out. But the area is nver expose to sunlight but ikt still comes out, he told me its fungus or heat bumps. The dr. prescripes him Loprox cream and loprox shampoo for skin. I'm not sure if yours is the same but you should see a doctor and hope that it all goes away soon. |

Hi, thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah, I did some research on the web and looked at some pics of different skin problems, and discovered the I had something called tiena veriscolor (sp?)it is a yeast infection of the skin. I put selson shampoo on the areas and it cleared right up! I'm so glad! but I read that it could reoccur so I need to reaply often for a couple of weeks, maybe even a month. I hope this thread can help someone else.
Thanks again

Glad that it's nothing too serious...
Tinea versicolor is just a superficial fungal infection of the skin which occurs more frequently in hot, humid weather. The culprit fungus is actually a normal inhabitant of the human skin and it's believed that the scalp may be the reservoir. Most people do not experience any symptoms (itching, etc). Unfortunately this is a chronic condition but easily controlled and prevented.
I would suggest shampooing the involved areas as well as the scalp (but avoid the private parts) for a course of 3-4 days consecutively either at betime and washed off in the morning or washed off right after 20-60 minutes if your skin gets irritated by the selenium sulfide shampoo. And definitely try keeping the skin dry and cool.
Hope I'm not repeating things that u already know Good luck!! |

Yes, it sounds like you have tinea versicolor, which is a skin fungus typically found in mediterranean skin-types, but not always.
My husband has it on his back and this summer it did indeed creep up his neck - it's always at its worst in the summer, especially when its very hot - and the treatment is the sulfer shampoos along with a Lotromin/Lamisil spray. It can be recurring unfortunately, so keeping it at bay when you see the first signs is helpful.
We consulted a natueropath who also suggested doing a Candida Cleanse, which he's been doing to try to eliminate any more fungi that are alive and well in his body.
Strange the way our bodies react to things.
I'm glad your derm diagnosed you and that you got rid of it!
