this has probably been discussed here but i couldn't find it in my sunscreen searches and so i hope you'll cut a newbie some slack. i was reading on a skin forum how some sunscreens actually made melasma *worse*. in a nutshell, if it contains the chemical oxybenzone, then there is a possibility it could activate hyperpigmentation. the only sunscreen that was being touted was a product called uv natural (spf30) which doesn't contain any chemicals. i'm uk-based, have searched all over the internet, and can't find any online uv natural outlets that will ship here for for less than $50 (!)- and that's just the shipping cost.

so my question to anyone on eds who has had to address this: can you recommend an alternative sunscreen that doesn't contain oxybenzone?

thank you in anticipation of any advice.

Hey there, if you decide you want someone overseas to do a CP for you, let me know - I'm actually going to be on your side of the pond in a couple months, too, so I could bring stuff and post it there. But aside from that, there was a thread recently about The Organic Pharmacy's sunscreen that looked divine, and it's a UK-based company. No chemicals there, and it sounded like a lovely formulation - could you try a sampler of that since you're probably able to find it in person?

No kidding, we're coming for my uncle's anniversary party on an orchard in Gloucestershire. Hopefully it's not a giant mud pit, and hopefully the farm isn't totally suffering by then!

hi madalyn - thanks for listing those top 4 sunscreens. this has been driving me mad now all week ... the skincare forum specifically for melasma rates uv naturals as their best choice, but the reviews i read of it here sound pretty dreadful. to find a sunscreen specifically for the face which isn't going to make my melasma worse with at least an spf of 30 that is not goppy and will make me go all zitty seems like the bloody holy grail at the moment!

anyone have any experience with the clarins spf 40?
