I used the Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Lotion with SPF 30 (bought from avon.com) while in Thailand - Hated it! It felt so sticky on my skin. It was not easy to spread either. I only used it once. Couldn't stand it.

Luckily I also bought the SSS Bug Guard Spray with SPF 15. I used that, and it was not sticky. It was pretty easy to use. Just spray on and rub it to spread it more evenly. I don't know if it worked or not, but I only got 2 bites throughout the trip, so maybe it did work. I applied it much more in Cambodia visiting Ankor Wat and Ankor Thom than while in Thailand. In Thailand, I relied on wearing long pants and swatting them off. lol

Note that both formulas don't have DEET, and this is why I chose it. I couldn't stand the smell of DEET on my skin. The Bug Guard didn't have any noticeable smell, or at least it was not repulsive, so I didn't notice it.

Forgot to add that my two boys did not get a single bite, or at least they did not complain of any itching. I used the SPF15 one on them.

But just curious to know, even though it repelled the insects...how good a job was it as a sunscreen?

Interesting - I didn't know they can make sunscreen and bug repellent in one. Sounds like a good idea to pack for my camping trip.

Thanks for the review, bkkgirl. I have often wondered about these 2-in 1. I am a mosquito magnet and need hard-core chemicals to ward them off. All the citronella in the world just doesn't cut it for me.

I've also heard that the SSS bath oil acts like a repellent...I was told by an Avon sales rep. I haven't tried it though!

Yeahyeah, actually I think the Spray one is probably good. I used that exclusively, and I didn't get bitten while I used it. I think the two bites I got were from when I was not using the bug guard. I was kinda lazy and forgetful to use it in the beginning, but in Cambodia, I was scared that I would catch some dengue fever, so I religiously sprayed myself and my kids with the bug guard. None of us got a sunburn or bitten, so maybe the thing did work.

You're welcome, Agent! I don't get attacked too badly, but in Belize, I got attacked by mosquitoes after I came out of the water from scuba diving. I didn't use any bug spray at that time since it was in the middle of the day. I hate bugs!
