Hi,
Thanks for the reply, very interesting. I have light, fair sensitive skin and always prone to dark circles under my eyes. Lately it has become much more noticable and there is puffiness as well. I am 25 years old and eat healthy and am active but I have been having trouble sleeping and usually toss and turn after 3 AM.
I have been using sunscreen everyday for the past 2 years. Also tried taking a iron tonic for a few months but didn't really do much.
I have been reading a lot about vitamin k creams for dark circles and woudl like to know what you think of those.
Thanks |

Some people just have these heriditarily. Example: Greek and south-east Indian people often have darker pigmentation under their eyes. Other people have dark circles as a result of allergies, or as in your own case, thin skin. I too have dark circles. I always have, and probably always will. Invest in a good concealer such as Jane Iredale's Circle Delete will help camoflage blue/purple tones under the eyes. Also, there are many other posts about this very subject, so rather than repeat myself again, you may want to check these out. |

Allergies can also cause this area to look dark as the constant drainage through the sinuses can be "seen" through this very thin skin. Sometimes antihistamines like sudafed can clear up the darkness if it is a simple allergy-related phenomenon. I have allergies but also have had dark circles my entire life. I am using the CellularSkinRx.com Eye Bright now and love it. It has brightened up the area better than other products I have used. I am on my fourth week with it. I also think the K Rescue from PeterThomasRoth is a good one. Teamine from Revision also did some good.
Sounds like you could use some sleep to really help your problem though. |

Miss Shoes,
I posted a reply to your question re PTR eye cream, but just wanted to add here about your sleeping problems.
Whenever I am stressed I find that I start waking up around 3am (almost like clockwork!). I have read that this is quite common as that's when your body is weakest (or something along those lines - sorry can't quite remember). However, they did say that this is very common among people that stress a lot. So, had some camomile tea recently?

Thanks again for the info. I do have some herbal sleepy tea but I guess I will have to put the kettle on at 3AM cause it is usually worn off by then and I wake up anyway.
Our bodies are strange little machines, not to mention our sub-conscience. I didn't know that about the 3 AM waking, and bodies at their weakest. I will research that.
No doubt thought, it is stress for me. I have a nice bottle of Bach Rescue Remedy which is nice during the day. I'm only 26 and my sister sayd I need an eye lift!! Not fair since I try so hard to take care of myself. I think I am going to infest in the PTR Power K. I am using the DDF eye gel and find it very soothing. I keep that and an eye pac in the fridge.
Thanks for caring everyone!! |

Hi Miss Shoes,
Why not try lymphatic drainage around the eye area? Or book a treatment specifically for the eyes, or get the herb eyebright (loose form) from your herbalist, get the little tea bags and fill it, wait for it to cool and then apply on the eyes. After you've rested with the tea bags, hit pressure points with your middle finger starting from the outside corner of your eye moving in and then sweep above, just below the brow line, do this 3 times with your specific eye cream and then do 6 full sweeps around the eye, staying below the brow lines using light pressure. I hope this helps.

I have had dark circles for many years. I use an over the counter skin lightning cream called nadinola, I use a little under my eyes, but remember it takes several months to see the results. I also have dark spots and I see them lighting up. In the meantime I had to find something to hide my flaws until my skin get better. I also have sensitve skin, I have tried 100's of product.
Hope it gets better.

Dermalogica total eye care spf 15, Amazing stuff, my eyes are brighter then my skin tone, it really works, and as soon as you put it on, you'll see a difference cause the cream is pink so it brightens up right away, |

Recent research shows that roughly 47 percent of dark circles are caused by allergies (also known as allergic shiners).(that's almost half!) Have you been allergy tested? Treating the allergies if you have them might be your best bet for your circles, and you might end up sleeping better too. |

So true, so true. I am able to alleviate my circles somewhat with daily pseudoephedrine and then use the Eye Bright from CellularSkinRx.com to address what's left. I probably should try the shots to get rid of the allergies completely but supposedly only a 50/50 chance they would work after having three shots each week for three years. Yuck!
I have also heard that taking a teaspoonful of honey each day (locally made by local bees who use local pollen/allergens to make the honey.. is supposed to help you develop a natural immunity. |

Just thinking out loud here, but I think that might be because allergies tend to block sinuses (if only just a bit sometimes) which causes congestion in the sinus/eye area which in turn affects lymphatic draining. Does that sound about right or am I way off?

No, you are right on Mabsy. Allergies play a big part in circles, and also red, itchy eyes as we all know. As for the honey, that is true, it does act in a homeopathic way to boost the immune system. But you should take no more than 1 teaspoon a day. Also, diabetics should never eat honey. It causes a spike in your blood sugar level since it is pre-digested by the bees...it goes right into your bloodstream. |

Thanks for all the info.
I wonder what I could be allergic too?
I have no known food allergies and use natural soap and body care products. While I don't have reddness or itchy, there is puffiness.
Someone suggested my cat??? Oh no!!! I can't give my kitty away, she's my loyal companion of 4 years.
Any idea what allergy could be causing this?
Any help please!!! |

Miss Shoes,
Cat/Dog (sorry, but it's a possibility)
Pollen
Dust
Dustmites (they're a big cause of allergies as well)
This doesn't mean you necessarily have an allergy - but these are just some of the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.

Cat dander is one of the biggest allergens out there. My allergist said that most people don't even know they're allergic to their cat if their symptoms are mild enough. I have 2 cats that I found out I'm allergic to. I could never give them away though. I just can't let them sleep between me & the husband anymore.

Oh my,
How will I know if I am in fact allergic to my cat? She sleeps next to me every night in my bed. Giving her away or kicking her out of the room is not an option. If she is the problem I guess I will have to live with the dark circles!!!!
Mabsy,
Do you have any other info on the 3AM waking issue. I am still have big problems. Saturday night I woke at 3:30 and then couldn't sleep again. I was on the computer (& eating ice cream) till 7 AM. So last night I had to take a perscription sleeping pill and sleep through the night til 1 PM this afternoon cause my body was so exchausted. I don't want to take pills. Do you have any other info that might help me???/
I also need to deceide on something for my dark circles, bags & puffiness.
Thanks |

Miss Shoes,
I'll try to find more info for you re:waking up around 3am-ish. In the meantime you could do a google groups search for this topic on news groups about sleep disorders.
I'll have a chat to my mother because I'm sure she has told me about this before as well (and given how much she reads I hope she can tell me what book it came from ).

Miss Shoes, Could u possible allergic to your shoes?? LOL More than likely it's the cat - when we buy a new house, we have turned down houses that had cats previously due to my hubby's and son's allergies. Also, do you have feather pillows or feather down comforters - that's another possibility. I don't know if u can get dark circles from food allergies too?
This honey cure sounds awesome!!!! But how on earth do u get fresh honey from your local bees??? Where would I start? |

No, No!!! Not my shoes. I love all my shoes. Don't take my shoes. I am beginning to have second thoughts about this board. First my cat, now my shoes LOL
Umm, I don't have anything feather or down as I could only afford a synthtic duvet at the time of purchase. The pharmacist today told to me to some oral allergy medication as my eyes are now so puffy and red. I am also having sinus trouble so it must be something blooming outside. I recall have eye allergies a few summers ago in PA.
I just bought Phytomer Lift Contour eye cream 2 days ago and it is very nice & soothing. At first I was a little iffy when I saw how small the jar was after I paid $60 but a little goes a long way with this product so it should last a while.
I'll keep you posted. I have yet to try the honey? |

Btw, re: dust mites -->

Dust mites are tiny bugs that live in your home. They measure about 1/100th of an inch in length, which is smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Dust mites feed off of pet and human dander (dust), and their waste is a major cause of allergies and asthma. |
This is from http://familydoctor.org/683.xml and you'll find more info there. You can be the cleanest person in the world but you can still have these little suckers in your home.
