I have been using Ocean Actives Squalane for several months and LOVE it. It makes my skin so smooth and hydrated. It feels so wonderful. I even rub a bit into my elbows and on my heels. Yummo.

They have some new products and I am interested in the eye cream. Here are the ingredients

Ingredients: Water, Squalane, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearic Acid, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Shea Butter, OxyPeptide™ Yeast Extract, Ginkgo Leaf Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Vitamin E, Rice Bran Extract, Phytosphingosine, Ceramides 1, 2, and 3, Glucosamine, Citric Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol

They claim reduction of dark circles but I have never really found a cream that really does that. I think, sometimes, it is just genetic and environment.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has used this?

Oh the website, in case you want to look at it is

http://www.drlark.com/order/oa_sqlntst1_es_0707.asp?promo_code=M7A04001&alias_code=102142

and, YES, I know this squalane is not the olive based one - and has shark "guts" in it. LOL. Does not bother me.

Just curious... what are the "ocean" actives in the ingredients besides "sharks" guts??

I think it is just the squalane. It comes from the liver actually, instead of the guts. I read a post one time (maybe here, maybe somewhere else) and a lady called it shark guts...she was grossed out about it.

The website says: While Squalane is found in your skin, it's also found in nature—especially in shark liver oil. In fact, the very best source comes from deep-sea Centrophorus shark...The reason Squalane is so different is because it’s the same ingredient found in sebum, a natural compound in your skin that helps your skin cells regenerate. It’s what keeps your skin soft, moist, and young.

I also found a dermalogical report that defines the difference between squalene and squalane and the benefits
has found in squalane a natural emolient. It imparts to the skin a suppleness without an unpleasant greasy feel. It readily forms emulsions with fixed oils and lipophilic substances and does not oxidize nor turn rancid. Squalane has also been found to accelerate dye-dispersion in lipsticks, producing a high gloss and acting as a long lasting fixative for perfumes. When applied to wshed or sun exposed skin and hair, squalane helps to restore the lost oils. It has long been known that coating the skin with oils offers considerable protection from sunburn because of a strong absorption band in the erythemogenic region

You can get plant based (olive) and shark liver based. I have not tried any other brands, although there are some out there. I just really love this stuff and was interested in the eye cream. I did not know about the other ingredients. I know some folks are really savvy on ingredients and I am still learning. I could look them all up but thought I would take the easy way out first (LOL).

I am sure they do work the same but I have read on a different report (spent hours reading about it all) that the shark liver one is highly concentrated, so more concentration than the plant based. But I have read many folks use the plant based one and like it. This seriously feels so wonderful on your skin, it is hard to describe. When you smooth it on (and a little goes a long way) it feels a bit oily at first but in a few minutes it is gone and your face feels moist and soft.

I also put it on my hands, heels and elbows.. makes them feel wonderful as well.

I have seen a couple of other shark based ones out there and am willing to try them. Squalane is the one you want, it is more stable - Squalene is not and can spoil quickly.

I may try this eye cream just to see. However, I keep saying that no eye cream has totally wowed me yet (for dark circles), etc.

Hi Deb,

thanks for the super nice offer! but i dun live in US... so it would be more troublesome (and expensive) for you to send me a sample! besides, i've checked the website, they do not ship outside US... so even if i like it, it would be hard for me to use it long term!

alternatively, i search for squalane online and found this:

http://www.squalane.com/Squalane.html

it's pure squalane essential oil! so i guess i can simply apply a thin layer before my other moisturizer? since we've previously discussed that the "only" ocean active in that product is squalane... wouldnt it be the same if i buy this pure oil??!

what are your thoughts?

I think so. The one I use is just Squalane with lavender added. I found a couple others, as well. The prices can really vary. Here are some links (not sure if they ship outside US but worth checking)

http://www2.shopping.com/xPC-Mayumi_Squalane_Skin_Oil_1_12_oz

This one sells overseas but not from on line apparently (at least not their website)

The Mayumi brand seems pretty reasonable and I know that some folks use it and like it. Good luck! I am willing to try other brands.

Hi! I tried Dr. Lark's new olive oil squalane formulation,Trilane, but it has a kind of greasy feel to it. Confused I think I prefer the Ocean Actives better. It just seems to 'soak in' better. I read somewhere that the sharks are not caught just for the squalane but that its a by-product of fishing...it would be sad if they caught the sharks just for this...glad to hear they dont'. Also found another place for squalane-"oceana products"...if you google it, it will come up. Seems pretty comparable in price too. Smile
