I ordered the free 1oz. sample last week. Looking forward to trying it. |

I just saw a post on the Skin Biology forum about this. They said this does not have the fishy odor of pure amine DMAE because when they lowered the ph to 6 and added other ingredients, the smell diminished.
I know the ph of PSF's DMAE is high. I thought I remember reading something about it needing to be high, but I can't find it right now.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm just wondering if it would be as effective at the lower ph. |

DMAE is no longer free amine at pH 6.0.
If the pH has been lowerd, the product has no scent because there is no free amine left. It is now primarily in the salt form.
The salt form has never been studied for effectiveness and is considered inferior to alkaline free amine DMAE.
Effective DMAE has a pH of about 10.
Effective DMAE brands (that I know of) are Intensive Nutrition and PSF. They both sell a 3% amine DMAE. PSF has a much better price per ounce and I prefer the texture. The gel is easy to apply vs the runnier Intensive Nutrition product.
I have tried the one ounce free sample of the SB product and thought it was water. Seriously! I thought I must be part of a placebo test group or something. I threw it in the garbage already.
There is a slight sensation when the liquid is applied due to the polysccarides, but that is not true cosmetic firming. Drying egg whites on your face will do the same thing!

Thanks for the informative post Zag. After reading this, I am going to stick with PSF's DMAE.
I have purchased the IN DMAE from DianaYvonne in the past, but also prefer the PSF's gel-like texture for ease of application. |

If DMAE bitartarte in water is not pH adjusted, it is about pH 4.0.
DMAE bitartrate is only 37% DMAE (thus a 9% solution is actually only 3.33% DMAE) and even the portion of the salt that is DMAE does not penetrate the skin well at lower pH's.
That is why all published studies demonstarting the efficacy of DMAE have used the alkaline free amine DMAE.
Most DMAE on the market is in the salt form (even though it does not work very well) as the amine form is hard to work with. You need a HAZMET permit (and preferrably a fume hood to dilute in) because it is corrosive at full strength.
PSF sells a hydrating toner for only $16 for 4 oz that contains 15% DMAE bitartare. If I wanted to use the salt form for some reason, I would purchase this as it is the highest % I have personally seen for sale and it is dirt cheap.
It is also VERY easy to make your own DMAE bitartrate solution at home.

Sorry for bringing this old post up, but i am trying to find out which one of the products i used lately removed the nasty brown spot on my face.
I just came back from my vacation and noticed it's GONE. I was fighting with it for the last 5 years and nothing helped. This vacation i used only TTT twice daily, because i messed up with my DIY vit C.
The question is - does this product actually capable of removing brown spots? |
