Vibrating Exercise Machine

Does anyone have one of these exercise machines? There's allot of buzz about them at the moment. Kylie and Madonna are supposed to use one - the Powerplate, which is around $6,000 but now there are cheaper models coming on the market that are made in China. The one I saw at the local mall was called the Vibroform. I had a go on it and it shook the living daylights out of me - I could definitely feel all my fat jiggling! I'd love this to be of benefit because I currently can't use my other exercise machine because of a bad hip - these vibrating machines are supposed to be very gentle on the joints but I'm inclined to think that they're just hype - any info would be appreciated.

I have had a hip replacement (due to Arthritis)3 years ago while I was in my forties and as a result I cannot use any vibrating exercising machines but I have had an exercise bike for last 10 years and still use it. Its great for keeping the hips rotating and for firming up legs. I find it hard to go on it if I have not something to watch on TV so I follow a few soaps and before I know it I have an hour done, in Ireland one cannot depend on the weather for outdoor activities

I also saw this vibrating machine in the local shopping centre, and as you said it shook the living daylights out of me. I didn't find it strenuous at all, have read the information pamphlet on the machine and am still trying to figure out if this is a good easy way of exercise without having to do the hard miles or it's just a gymic. I really would like to know if there's anyone who has one and if it has worked. I'd never seen or heard of this sort of thing before but from reading your information the stars seem to be using a more expensive plate of some kind, this machine just looks like a walking machine without the mat just a place to stand on and be vibrated. Sells for $1350 AUD.

I bought one. It sounded like the answer to my prayers, but believe me it wasn't! There are about 15 exercises that you have to do whilst on it. It's really hard. I used it for a couple of months, 3 times a week, and saw no difference at all! Also, my fingers started to go numb. I didn't connect it at first but when I looked up my symptoms on the internet, it mentioned using power tools etc. could trigger this in certain people. I sold it to my daughter's friend and she has now sold it after seeing no results. Luckily the feeling came back in my fingers after a few weeks but my advice to you is, don't bother!

Thank You so much to the person who wrote about the above machine and said it didn't work. I will not bother, I thought it sounded to good to be true. It's back to good old fashion hard work exercise.

They have two of these powerplate machines in my gym. They are very popular and seem to be effective although I haven't used them really. I believe they are supposed to be good for your skin as they stimulate the lymphatic system but you will get the same effects or better from using a rebounder / mini trampoline (see below quote).
"Natural Face Lift: Each cell of your body is like a balloon. This exercise (rebounding) puts them repeatedly under stress as they need to resist the increased G force (when the balloon reaches the maximum elongation). With time, the cell’s membrane get thicker, thus firmer, and gains elasticity.
Your skin is a community of cells. Therefore, regularl use of a rebounder will firm your skin and increase it’s elasticity"
I think the powerplates are effective but only as part of a larger fitness plan including Cardio and Strength training.

It's definitely not anywhere as helpful as "good old fashioned exercise." I think these machines are more like a supplement to exercise. You can get them for around $500. My ex has one and I go on once in a while. It does make your body feel a bit more fit, i.e. your joints feel better and you feel a bit less tense and all around more fluid. I don't know if I would buy one but if one is a around I'll get on it for 15 minutes and do some stretching. I'd probably pay $100 for one, def. not $6000.
