Hello All,
I'm planning a trip to LA and Phoenix next month and was wondering what places are a must to check out.
Mainly for clothes and beauty shopping!
Thanks!!

I am hoping MACrisis and/or bkgirl will chime in here because my memory is completely shot! I was in LA earlier this year and MACrisis took me to some fantastic shopping places but I cannot for the life of me remember what they were called. I know we went to a big Whole Foods in Pasadena (to check out all the natural skin care brands) but we also went to a factory outlet centre and a large shopping complex (of an outdoor type). Both were very much worth while and I'm hoping that MACrisis and bkgirl can name them for you Smile

It depends on how much money you want to spend in Los Angeles. If you want to buy big brand, check rodeo drive in Beverly hills. If you do not care to catch the fashion, try premium outlet in desert hill close to palm spring.

Hi Canadian, for beauty, you can try the Santa Monica promenade. Sephora's right there! For clothes, I tend to hit the outlet stores, there are so many of them. Ontario Mills mall, and Cabezon are a couple of good ones.

It's been years since I lived in Phoenix, but the area around the Biltmore shopping district on Camelback road and 40th St. is very posh. Scottsdale is also another primo place to shop if you have a lot of $$ to spend.

Good luck and have fun! For other places to go, check out this thread...

I was visiting LA earlier this year, but did not do any major shopping in the city itself. If you plan on renting a car to visit other area's directly outside of LA, I would suggest you stop at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa (www.southcoastplaza.com ). Featured as a high-end mall it has all the major department stores (Saks, Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Macy's, etc), in addition to every other brand-name store that you can think of. Across the street from the main plaza you will also find a Marshalls & TJ Maxx (this group owns Winners in Canada), and Ross Dress for Less (www.rossdressforless.com ). I found Rosses very getto-like for clothing, but was pleased with their purse selection (great deals on Nine West, Liz Claiborne, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, etc), and I did see the odd pair of nice shoes. Down the road a bit from the South Coast Plaza you will also find a Trader Joes (there are locations all over California and in Arizona as well -www.traderjoes.com). I LOVE Trader Joe's and always stop by one right away to stock up on wine that you'd pay through the nose for in Canada and awesome snacks. They also have a small beauty section with shampoo's that have been discussed here at EDS and received good reviews.

As for Rodeo Drive, well, it's a must see that's for sure, but not an area that I actually purchased anything from (way too expensive for my taste). I am a consummate bargain hunter, so I tend to target designer goods at discount stores, outlet malls and department stores that offer a significant sales rack (like Nordstroms). Lastly, you may want to walk through a Sally's as they tend to have lots of items in the US locations that we don't get in Canada. Smile

I went to LA a few months ago, and I had started this thread to get advice:

It may not be what you're after, but I just thought it might help. Smile Have fun!

Best places to shop in Phoenix would be both in Scottsdale and in Paradise Valley. The Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall is good as is Paradise Valley Mall. Bring lots of $$$$$ because neither one is cheap...

You could also e-mail me when you are in town and if you are interested I could show you the cosmetic lab and how a lot of consumer products are made, especially the ones made with Macadamia, Jojoba, Sunflower oils, and derivatives of the above.

John

Wow! Thanks John!
I just booked my flight and will be going to Phoenix only. I am hoping to get in a day or 2 at Sedona as well, any reccomendations for places to stay? I saw the Amara resort and spa and it looked interesting.
Thanks
