Hi everyone, I was looking through threads yesterday about hair product and it helped me understand that my hair is in desperate need of moisture rather than proteins. I could not find any great product recommendations, so if you have used anything that helps dry, porous hair and has no proteins in - please let me know. |

Protein isn't bad, you just need to have a product that's balanced. Neutrogena Triple Moisture products are good, esp. the daily and deep conditioners. Redken All Soft condtioner. Yes to Carrots Pampering conditioner. Redken Butter Treat. And, to my amazement, the Pantene hair masks are good too. I have the regular one in the pot, but I've heard the Time renewal one is even better. Do a ACV rinse before any deep condtioning treatment-- it will help it to penetrate better. |

John Masters Organics Dry Hair Nourishment & Defrizzer is a lovely products. I don't have frizzy hair but color treated. I apply a few drops of this product to my damp hair after shampooing and continue to style. It does not weigh my hair down or make it oily. If you want a more intense treatment you can double the drops and leave it in overnight. My hair has more volume and shine after using this product.
John Master's hair products are very nice. |

It is colour treated and close to breaking point.
Thanks for the suggestions, proteins are not all bad, I use Aphogee for those, but now I am craving a surge of moisture preferably in a wash off treatment. |

I really like the L'Oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture conditioner you can buy at Sally's as well as the Pantene Nourishing Moisture Replenishing Mask. I don't think either of these contain proteins. Both of these make my hair feel very soft and although they contain some silicones they aren't very high on the ingredient list. |

That's two votes for Pantene. I will check it out, but I am worried about high silicone contents. My hair is used to more natural stuff. I adore John Masters, but have not been totally wowed by the masks. |

I'm in your exact position, or maybe worse! I believe my hair got fried from the Japanese Straight Perm. It's been a year and 9 months, and the dryness is getting worse. I looked back at older pics just now, and saw that my hair didn't look so frizzy or lifeless (straw-like) like it is now.
I get more frizzes when I exercise or when it's humid outside. That was not a problem before th Japanese straight perm.
I tried the JMO defrizzer and still have it in the bathroom, but it didn't help my case. I also have the JMO honey & hibiscus hair reconstructor, which is not yet opened. I may try it. I have bought Mega Cholesterol Treatment from Sally and the heat cap. I actually will try that plus coconut oil. At this point, I'm willing to try just about anything. I'm also taking MSM and GNC skin, hair, nails and GNC nourish hair.
So far I haven't come across a permanent fix. Temp fix yes! But if I don't want to dry my hair every day, I'm pretty much facing a frizzy hair day with waves all over. This was not a problem for me a couple of years ago before the straight perm. |

I forgot about Biolage! THis stuff is really good too. It's expensive, though. It's a wash-out deep condtioner, though there was a point where I was using it daily. |

Spend the money and buy Pureology shampoo and conditioner(the purple bottle for colour treated hair). I am a hair product junkie and have tried all kinds of things. This is, by far, the best product I have ever used to maintain colour, prevent dryness, etc. A little goes a long way. It doesn't build up at all and my hair doesn't get "tired" of it. (You know how you have to change brands every couple of months when your hair gets used to the product? Don't need to change this one!)
Good luck |

Hi Smoothskin,
You leave the Balm on for 1-3 mins, then rinse it out. I have curly, color-treated hair and use it once a week to control frizzies. Terax is also very good.
Also, I once had a deep conditioning treatment at the salon. I remember they used Kerastase products. If your hair is damaged, you might want to consider having a professional treatment. |

I love using glycerine mixed with a little anti frizz (silicone/dimethicone etc) in moist hair. I found that tip on a haircare forum a long time ago. Its great for longer wavy hair especially. |

With whatever product you decide to use I recommend buying a heating cap (I bought mine at Sallys) and using it to deep condition your hair for 20 mins every week. Heat makes a huge difference. |

Try using a silk pillow case as the silk won't absorb moisture and oils from your hair as you sleep and it helps keep the hair cutical flat so the hair is smoother too. I have one and like it a lot. Good for the skin too! |

coconut oil - the thick white stuff - put on dry hair - it will soak in and the moisture benefit is amazing. Shampoo after - try to avoid shampoo with SLS and this will help your porous hair also. My hair is the same way. |

Shikai products are great. I use the color reflect. The intensive repair conditioner works wonders. I have had several compliments on my hair when I switched over. It is so much healthier now. This is coming from a bottle blonde.... |

Jessicurl Deep Conditioner is AMAZING! I use it after I color and my hair actually feels like rabbit fur. It is silicone and protein free as are all of her conditioners. She offers sample packets and an unscented version to each product. Great CS too. |

Hi,
I also use coconut oil before I wash my hair with Pantene shampoo. Just apply it for 30 minutes or 1 hour and wash it off with shampoo, then follow with conditioner. It really helps to moisturize my hair.

I'd like to recommend you visit the long hair community....I can't post links, but you can figure out what it would be. I actually discovered this board through someone there.
For a fantastic deep moisture treatment do the following:
2 parts fave condish (no cone is best)
1 part honey
1 part 100% aloe gel (no lidocane)
Zap in micro for 20 seconds (this kills honey's ability to lighten), mix and slather onto your towel dried hair, cover with saran wrap or shower cap for an hour. Rinse VERY well.
Enjoy the soft, shiny hair this produces. It's called Snowy's Moisture Treatment (or SMT) on those boards by the member who created it. |

i dont have color treated hair but i think my hair overall has gone bad or worser dryish and rough from the straightening as well.....before it was naturally more shiny softer and silky feeling.
i been trying a mixture of oils every now and then (when i can remeber and have time) and it helps.
coconut oil, almond, olive and silkia camelia oil sometimes even amla in it. |
