Hi there, I'm new, but I've been feverishly reading these boards the last few days (and buying up some of your recommendations!).
I was getting all revved up about the Obagi Nu Derm system, but it's still a pretty hefty sum. I read about it on Paula's Choice and she (as usual) isn't thrilled about it.
So I did a google search of "do it yourself obagi" and I found a site selling 1 oz of 50% TriChloroacetic Acid peel for $24.99.
I wanted to know if any of you have ever heard of this or used this or something similar, or am I going to melt my face off if I try it?
Thanks for the input, you are some fantastically informative ladies! |

there are quite a few old posts on TCA on this board. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find all the info that you need.
I do TCA at home, and I love it. Though I would HIGHLY recommend not doing a strong peel at home ESPECIALLY if you have never done it before (ie. in a doctor's office). If you are going to buy 50% be sure to dilute, they are not meant to be used full strength at home. |

I have done quite a few TCA peels on myself and haven't done any permenant damage to myself. I used a 12.5% solution from platinum skincare(their site has loads of info).
If you do want to try this then start off slow and work your way up leaving at least a month between peels.
Also use vit c serum, retin a and copper serum in your before and after care plan and never, ever pick at the peeling skin and tear it off this is the only think that gave me red marks which do fade quickly but would have been better to avoid that!
Good Luck! |

50 % yikes!!!!!that WILL melt your face off!!!! .You should start with a 12 1/2 percent or 15 % ...I started with a 15 % and that was fine because I left it on my forehead longer (tougher skin) and only about 1~2 minutes on my cheeks....I want to do another (its been a year) but cant find the time for a week of hiding!!!!
get EVERYTHING ready before you start (bicarb q tips sink of water soft wash cloths if needed and timer etc)the thing about lighter percentages is that you can layer them which I plan to do this peel....I bought mine at makeup artists choice (google them)
good luck! |
