Hey all, I just got an email in my inbox about Shea Terra Organics' new Bourbon Vanilla line. Here's what it says:

Quote:
Exotic Madagascar Captured in All-Natural Vanilla Bourbon Skin Care

Introducing the New Vanilla Bourbon Skin Care Line from Shea Terra Organics

Shea Terra Organics has launched its Vanilla Bourbon skin care line, with sensuous, sweet vanilla from Madagascar bourbon beans. Seldom found in skin care because of its high cost, only the finest Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans are used in Shea Terra’s products. Sought after for its intoxicating aroma, dark bourbon vanilla oleoresin offers a deep, hedonistic experience with a simple twist of a jar. The vanilla bourbon beans that fragrance Shea Terra’s bath and body items are completely natural – safe for people and the environment. All-natural vanilla fragrance is extremely rare in skin care products today, which are usually comprised of chemical laden fragrance oils.

The Vanilla Bourbon skin care line incorporates organic botanicals and high percentages of certified organic shea butter with 10-40% shea content, much more than the industry standard of only 5%. The products are formulated with a proprietary blend of indigenous African herbs including Kigilli, sausage tree fruit, used by native women to improve skin tone; African potato, not really a potato but rather a tuber, which soothes skin irritation and dryness as well as boosts the immune system; and aloe ferox, found in the fynbos region of South Africa, known to be the most moisturizing and reparative of all aloes. The line includes:

Vanilla Bourbon Indigenous Silk & Shea Butter Shower Elixir (MSRP $18, 8 oz.) Brewed with a proprietary blend of African herbs and oils, goat's milk and cruelty-free silk, it lathers up lots of creamy, velvety bubbles without sulfates or other chemical sudsing agents.

Vanilla Bourbon Indigenous Shea Body Butter (MSRP $18, 8 oz.) Ultra thick, non-greasy formula combining 40% certified organic shea butter with a proprietary skin-healing herbal blend.

Vanilla Bourbon Indigenous Silk & Shea Butter Lotion (MSRP $18, 8 oz.) A supple, rich moisturizer that contains proprietary blend of organic and wild harvested African herbs, 20% certified organic shea butter, moisturizing goat's milk and cruelty-free silk.

Vanilla Bourbon Indigenous Shea Butter Dead Sea Salt Scrub (MSRP $18, 8 oz.) Fortified with soap wort and yucca, this herbal and shea blend combines with the mineral power of Dead Sea salts in a non-oily base.

The line is cruelty-free, made with only natural, organic ingredients, without sulfates, parabens, artificial fragrances or colors.

Shea Terra Organics, utilizing healing African oils, botanicals and butters for nearly a decade, has made a name for itself by giving back to Africa. The Vanilla Bourbon skin care line is made up of raw materials purchased through fair trade practices, which guarantees that fair prices and wages are paid to African workers. Shea Terra Organics has pioneered several self empowerment programs, which include paying for educational expenses for children in Ethiopia

The line is cruelty fee, and made with natural, organic ingredients, without sulfates, parabens, artificial fragrances or colors.

I'm really curious about these new goodies, so if anyone tries them please report back!!

For those who have used Shea Terra products, can you give a short description of what you've used and your thoughts on it? I'm looking for some body products (oils, lotions, etc), but any reviews would be appreciated Smile

Hi TJSmom! I'm looking forward to hearing others' reviews too, but in the meantime I'll share what I've tried:

Shea and Vitamin E body spray in Madagascar Vanilla: This product is one of my must-haves. It's like a dry-oil body spray, but the only ingredients are shea oil, vitamin E, and natural fragrance. I love spritzing this on at the end of my shower for silky skin all over. Plus, it smells really great. When I wear it to bed my husband is really happy and he says I smell like vanilla pudding.

Dark Chocolate Cocoa Bean Shea Sugar Scrub: This is possibly my favorite scrub ever. It's moisturizing without being too greasy or oily, and it seriously smells like real brownie batter.

Nubian Milk Chocolate Shea Butter Body Cream: I love almost everything about this body butter---- it's rich and luxurious, and it smells exactly like my beloved chocolate body scrub. The only downside is that the cocoa in this product gives it a light tan color which can sometimes transfer to light-colored clothing. I still use it though because I'm totally addicted to it, I just make sure to not use it when I'm wearing light-colored clothing.

Coconut Milk Pineapple Shea Butter Body Cream: This is basically the same formula as the Chocolate body butter, just with a different fragrance. Both the pineapple and the coconut in this product smell so sweet and juicy and true-to-life. Also, this butter doesn't have the same color issues that the cocoa one has, so it's safe to use with any color of clothing. I got this for my sister and she really loved it. The scent is light and pleasant and won't bother anyone who is sensitive to fragrance.

Red Bush & African Wild Honey Silk & Shea Body Lotion: This product is very similar to the body butters, just a little bit lighter. I use it throughout the day to keep my hands velvety and soft. The light almost fragrance is also very nice.

I, too, have tried a couple products, and here are my reviews pasted in (with some minor edits after the fact):

So I finally got my order yesterday or the day before, and I've had a chance to try out both the African Black Soap body wash and the other fruity shower cream (or Crème, as they'd have you put it) as well as the oil spray. I'll review all three here, but first let me say about BOTH of the cleansers - these are most definitely liquid SOAPS and not just "body washes", so keep in mind that the pH is pretty high, and they may be drying or irritating to some skins.

African Black Soap with Lemongrass: This stuff is VERY strongly scented! I find it quite energizing and deodorizing, but the scent is surprisingly powerful and it seems to linger on skin quite a bit. Great for keeping mosquitoes away, but not necessarily great for layering non-citrusy fragrances. I think they had an unscented version too, though. This lemongrassy version stung really badly when I used it on my face and some more, ah delicate areas -- so be careful! Great as a post-workout wash, but I'm not sure I can handle this every day. Also, my cat refuses to even come near me if I've showered with this, even if it was that AM -- the scent stays on all day!

It produces a nice mild but foamy lather, and it has what seem to be tiny chunks of the ash they use to make it. It left a tiny bit of a tacky/filmy feeling on the skin like most true soaps tend to do, but it wasn't overly drying or irritating.

Rainforest Mango Papaya Shea Butter Shower Crème: This stuff smells delightful, and is slightly richer and creamier than the black soap. However, it's still most definitely a soap, and still a tad drying/high pH on the skin. It smells divine and combined nicely with the vanilla oil spray I got, so that was lovely. I also tried shaving with this stuff just to see how it would hold up, and I found it did much better than Dr. Bronner's, which is the other liquid soap I sometimes use. With Dr. B soap, I will soap up my whole lower leg from toes to knee, and if I start on my shins by the time I start shaving the back of my calf, the soap has lost its "slip" and I have to re-soap to finish. Not so with this stuff - it stayed slick and bubbly right through until I was ready to rinse it off.

Madagascar Vanilla Shea Body Spray: This stuff was a lovely body oil, but it didn't really seem to be beneficial as a spray, because it sprayed in a very targeted line rather than a mist. (I see that Liz has used it and loves it, so I wonder if maybe there's something wrong with the sprayer nozzle on mine? Oh well!) So I just had to spray it in my hand and rub it in like I would with any other body oil. I LOVE the smell, and I sometimes even used this to shave my legs. (Razor-clogging, but nice and silky and moisturizing for your skin.)

I don't think I'll be buying more of their washes, as they are so soap-like, but I may go back for another oil or one of the scrubs or butters that Liz likes. Smile Hope this helps!
