I've been on Yaz for about two months now, with wonderful results. Does your daughter have hormonal acne? I switched when I figured out that my hormonal acne (along my jawline, chin, and even on my neck) was caused by the other pill I was on, Levora.
I also have fewer other side effects from it--namely, no nausea when I start up the pills again after the placebo week.
They are quite a lot more expensive. I pay about $50 a month as opposed to $10 a month, but for me it's been worth it. |

its usually just trial and error. but also she should wait 3 months before switching. she will find one that works eventually! |

Does the doctor consider her acne *severe*? If so..then from my experience the only thing that EVER worked for me was Acutane. I tried everything, and in the end it was the only thing that did the job. After the acutane birth control was able to keep it at bay, but the birth control would have never gotten the acne under control. It is government controlled now, and I hear a pain in the butt to get. It is well worth it though..and if used early enough on can prevent major scaring. I wish my doctor had given me that option at 13 instead of 16..would have saved me a ton of money on scar treatments. |

My daughter has been on Yaz for 2 months now in preparation for Acutane. She really hasn't noticed any improvements but I'm not sure 2 months is long enough for noticeable results. She has not had any side affects at all. Her primary care physician consulted with her OB-GYN associate about which pill she recommends for acne. Her recommendation, without hesitation, was Yaz |

Yeah, you might not see the results you are looking for with the pill alone. I am a strong believer of Accutane, since it was the only thing that truly stopped the cystic breakouts. The chance that it will cause birth defects is really high..but they require you take birthcontrol while you are on accutane anyways. They warn you about liver issues associated with the pill, but those complications aren't as common as they would like you to believe. The biggest issue arose when girls were getting pregnant on accutane, after being told not to. This caused a major problem, and now doctors are required to be very thourough with the drug. If the acne is cystic then birth control along with a good skincare regimine might not be enough. Yaz sounds like a pretty successful birth control pill to keep mild acne at bay. At the age of 26 I still deal with breakouts, but nothing in comparrison to what I dealt with at 16. |

How old is your daughter?
Is it worth to take hormonal pills to cure acne? Maybe, to try something else?
I never suffered from severe acne but birth control pills helped me a lot in clearing my face (especially Diane35). At the same time, being slim for the most of my life and giving birth to two daughters without gaining an extra gram, I gained 10kg during my first year on my birth control pills. Other problems I connect with them are worsening of pigmentation (my freckles turned in big pigmented spots), visible veins, terrible hair loss and migraines.
Birth control pills are not that harmless as most of us used to hear from our physicians. |

My daughter is 22. She has been so opposed to accutane because of the possible side affects that she devoted the past year to altering her diet to include organic and natural foods, take daily vitamins that are food derived (no chemicals), taken antibiotics, natural skin cleansing products from GOW, drinking only water, etc. but the cystic acne continues to worsen to the point where she has begun to scar. She has, at times, declined to go out with friends because of her acne. She realized that she was becoming more socially withdrawn and not enjoying all the benefits of being a college student, so she finally decided it's time for Accutane which she started just yesterday. It was a 2 month process in order to get the prescription. She is really conflicted about this course of treatment. |

I've been on Yasmin for 3 yrs(same as Yaz but it's a higher dose).
When I first started Yasmin I noticed my skin was less prone to acne and has maintained like that ever since.
I tried switching to Yaz about a year ago because my ginecologist gave me a sample pack. I broke out for weeks so I switched back.
So...if you are looking to control acne, I suggest Yasmin instead of Yaz. |

Oh, I am sorry, Penelope, actually I asked lucyluc about her daughter's age.. I believe that hormonal pills are not the best decision. Your daughter has been on Yaz 2 months only. I hope that it wasn't enough time for developing side effects. |

my daughter will be 17 and her skin looks awful still, been on the pill for 3 mos and an antibiotic.Next visit to the daughter will ask about switching to Yaz and maybe trying prednisone for a short time I remember when I had acne that really knocked it out.My daughter has been noticing a lot of hair on the floor too, will ask dr about that too. I feel so bad for her,I think having bad acne has really made her self conscious. |

Sorry - I should have re-read your question. |
