I read a discussion here about this awhile back, but I can't remember where the thread was, so I'll just start a new one. I ran across this on the Dermadoctor.com website and I thought that everyone might find it interesting.
Q. I use a copper peptide serum from Skin Biology in the evening, together with 2% salicylic acid to remodel and improve a scar. I had been using a Vitamin C product from Skin Medica until I found out it is a 24 hour slow release. I understand that Vitamin C and Copper Peptide products should not be used within 12 hours of each other. I would like to find a good Vitamin C product that I can use in the daytime while I use the Copper Peptide at night. I called the Cellex-C company to inquire about their Vitamin C serum and they said it can be held in the skin up to 72 hours after application. Any recommendations? Thankyou.
A. To my understanding, it is the immediate exposure to the acidity (low pH) of the Vitamin C with a GHK Copper Peptide (found in Neova) which can potentially cause neutralization, not the lingering presence of the vitmamin within the skin. In addition, the 2 to 1 ratio of the copper to the peptide helps try to stabilize it against medical strength skincare. I have no problem with washing with glycolic acid products or using Vitamin C based items at another time of day from the use of a GHK Copper Peptide.
She also said that other acid products, such as AHA/BHA can have the same effects on copper peptide and should not be used at the same time.

cheers! that was me asking about that! Now I'm really confused cause I'm sure skin biology actually recommend using ahas to improve results. I have posted on their new website but it's like the marie celeste! I think that I may have to email them direct |

I believe that she meant that they can be used in the same regime but just not the same time of day. Apparently copper peptides are fairly fragile creatures so we have to be careful as to what other skincare products we use with them.
I would be interested to hear if the company answers you back.

That's interesting. I was under the impression that it was the C that was rendered ineffective, not the copper peptide. That the C actually became pro-oxidant in the presence of copper instead of anti-oxidant. Guess the research search is ON! Also, can someone tell me why water-based moisturizers are recommended instead of oil-based after using C serums? |

I have to agree with bettaerat49..
The C is rendered ineffective by the copper peptides. Waiting 12 hours between products is a good idea if you want the benefits of C. But with that slowly released 1, I can't really say if it's a good choice to use with the copper peptides.
I like the c products I've used like Cellex but right now I'm not really using any c products because I use copper peptides 2x a day. When I cut back to 1x a day, I'll start using a c product again.
guapagirl, skinbiology has a toll free number I think. Is this free from the UK? |

I don't think brits can use toll free numbers But I will try and email them when I get time.
How long have you been using cps? have they made a big difference and are they the skin biology ones?
BTW you may want to edit your message before betterat40 spots the typo

First of all sorry betterat40 for the typo.
guapagirl, I really do like the Skinbiology copper peptides. My skin does look really good.
It takes time for results on some people (me) but I got immediate healthy looking skin and now 10 months into using the cps, I realize that it has eliminated some fine lines and softened some not so fine lines. People do report firming but honestly though my skin seems firmer, I cannot confirm that that's from the copper peptides. |

Hi, there. Don't worry about the typo. If I tell people I'm really 49, then they'll just think I drink at the fountain of youth everyday. Nothing like lying about your age upwards to shock and amaze!
I did some more checking on the copper and C thing and indeed, it is the C that is rendered ineffective by the copper. The copper is also affected but not as much.
And where do I apply to get a "cheque" as well?
Looking good at 40 and 49! |
