Hello,
I am milk intolerant and I can't eat even ice cream. I heard many times that soy milk is a good replacement for regular milk, but when I taste it I didn't like it. I have a problem with my liver, many of you already have read my other topic about it. I can eat only dried bread, because other food makes me nauseous. My friend suggested to try soy milk. At first I didn't like taste of it again, but I continue to drink anyway. I was expecting the nausea, but surprisingly I felt fine. I even started to like the taste! I can't believe that I discovered this product only now!

I second manslayerliz - I love Silk brand. The unsweetened one is great. I especially like their fresh ones in the dairy case. Big yum!

I started drinking soymilk a few yrs ago when I developed lactose intolerance. My favorite is 8th Continent's Light Vanilla.

I grew up drink Asian (Chinese) styled soy milk and I've always loved it. I actually much prefer it milk. The first time I went to America and saw soy milk in a grocery store, I grabbed it without even thinking that it might not be the same kinda soy milk I was used to. Oh boy, the first time I tasted it, I nearly vomited. It tasted that bad to my taste buds. After a while though, I grew used to it, but never really liked it much. On odd days, I still felt sick its taste. Now I can drink it without my stomach turning. Laughing I especially enjoy those flavored ones. Smile

I was just going to recommend almond milk. The two biggest brands even offer unsweetened varieties, including the chocolate. Lara, some people also have allergies to soy, so in the future if you are starting to suffer abdominal pains of some kind, keep that in mind for one of the foods to test eliminating from your diet. With luck, however, you won't need this.

(Don't forget to maintain your calcium intake, too...)

I'm lactose intolerant, too, but soymilk doesn't do it for me. I'll have the flavored ones every now and again, like a cappucino or chocolate flavored one in my coffee, but just to drink? Ew. And you have to watch the sugar content in soymilk too. And without the sugar, I probably couldn't stand to have it at all.

I always have lactose free milk on hand for cereal aand such... I do miss ice cream... sigh.

My son is severely allergic to milk (and eggs Sad )and we were told that chances were high that he also has a soy allergy. We now buy rice milk. You should try it sometime.

I really want to like Soy milk - I know it's really good for you. But I cannot stomach it - not any brand or even chocolate. Maybe I just love real milk too much to make the switch.

Here is a link to an article stating that soy based food is NOT good. I stopped eating anything containing soy after I read a detailed description on how the soy is processed to make it edible, not that I liked soy products anyway...
Not to scary anybody, but here is a link:
http://www.camaweb.org/library/nutrition/soy_con.php
the article is long... but it gives some insight insight...

Also I know instances when people, including babies that could not tolerate regular milk did not have adverse reactions to goat milk. If you do not have allergies to goat milk it might be the way to go.
