Based on the following site, Sodium Chloride is graded as 5/5 for causing acne. Anyone here used a product that contains Sodium Chloride and break out from it? Or nothing happen? Confused

I've never heard of issues with sodium chloride, but I'm curious to know too. It's not in my products (at least not that I know).

Sodium chloride is not often used as a cosmetic ingredient. Where you sometimes find it is in body wash, shampoos and liquid hand soaps that are fairly thick (viscous). A very dilute solution of sodium chloride is made, usually a 20% solution, and then this very dilute solution is added again in a very small amount to the formula. Adding this sodium chloride solution will boost the viscosity. It is a cosmetic chemist's "trick" so to speak. I would hardly think there would be enough sodium chloride in any formula to cause an acne break out.

Isn't sodium chloride just good old salt? It's hard for me to figure out why salt would be comedogenic--it readily dissolves in water. So, assuming that you wash your face every now and again with water, wouldn't that completely remove any sodium chloride within pores? What am I missing here?

For what it's worth, I remember as a teenager that swimming in the ocean seemed like it reduced my acne flareups...

well, my moisturizer has sodium chloride in it. I never think it's really an issue until I saw the site so I'm just worried.

I've never heard of this. I have sensitive combo skin and no issues with this ingredient so far.
