Hello,
well, i just did something i have wanted to do for the last few years, i removed all my old/did'nt work products from my bathroom. I cannot believe how many there were, an entire grocery bag full.
So, now i am looking for a whole new routine, something the help me get rid of acne scars and some acne, but also to prevent aging (i've done proactiv, and al the usual ones for acne). So can anyone suggest a skin care routine?
thanks!

Congratulations for reorganizing your medicine cabinet. Sometimes it feels like a relief and all that clutter is all gone.

If proactive did not work for you, I would suggest you go see your doctor.

In general, you may want to use a gentle cleanser so that your skin will not react. Doctors love Cetaphil. Cetaphil is popular, because it should not strip your natural oil from your skin. As for moisturizers, I can't recommend one to you, because if I did, it would be my personal favourite that may not be right for your skin right now.

I think your doctor will have to address your acne prone skin. Maybe you will get retinal prescription.

As for acne scars, there is a combination of things to help smooth out the bumpy skin. My first choice would be a professional micro treatment series. Be sure to ask your doctor if your prescription would also deal with acne scars. You may also get another prescription that has antibiotic to help heal your skin.

If you have some oily skin, I suggest applying omega 3 oil on your face. Some EDS members may suggest jojoba oil or Decleor Ylang Ylang oil. The key is to apply very lightly. The theory is that you apply oil on oily skin in order to balance the oil production. The three oils I have listed is known not to clog your pores.

To even your skin tone and you may see firmness on your skin with time, is using vitamin C serum.

To deal with wrinkles, I'd say botox. No cream or serum can really get rid of wrinkles. In fact, even botox. It is a preventative and a temporary cure to wrinkles, but you have to keep up with it.

In general, all sunblocks clog your pores. This is bad news for acne prone skin. Hopefully, with your doctor's help, the prescription you get will help exfoliate your skin so that the sunblock you use, would not affect your skin a bad way. I personally use Skinceuticals. I think DDF Organic is also suggested for acne prone.

Please book an appointment with your doctor and with the information I provided you, now you can do your own research on what you would like to use on your skin.

Pro Activ didn't work for me either. It dried me out way too much. I've spent the past year doing trial and error, in all honesty I've probably spent more $$ than if I had gone to a dermatologist, but I didn't go. I've done my own research, found things I dislike, others I do.

A few products that have worked for me:

MaMa Lotion (great for acne scars! Keeps me clear as well)
Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear cream and lotion (I ended up liking the cream better...clears up acne like no one's business!)
Yon-Ka Gel Nettoyant cleanser (doesn't over dry, great for oily skin and acne...if you live in the US you cannot get it from EDS though...go Skinstore.com instead IMO)

As for moisturizer, I'm in the same boat as Skincare. I've found something that works for me (I use Skyn Iceland Night cream and day lotion, the combo works well for me...no break outs and no greasiness) but it might not be right for your skin type. There are tons of reviews on MUA and here...as well as a lot of discussions regarding moisturizing (like if you want to use an oil, cream, or lotion).

I also use Skyn Iceland SPF 18 and wouldn't go a day without it. I love the texture and how it soaks in. Another great one though is Sofina Nuance Up...I just got sick of ordering it from Hong Kong all the time.

Now...I'm so inspired I'm going to clean out my own cabinets in the next couple of weeks!!!

i have also started a new skincare range - AFA- starting a few days before new year. it's supposed to help with sun damage, acne, fine lines, poor skin texture - everything my skin need desperately!! i'm also using silken pearl paste and primer in the mornings.

i haven't had the guts so far to throw out my other skincare products - i'm hoping i can incorporate some of them later on when my skin improves - plus i'm a hoarder which doesn't help matters! Very Happy

That is just what I did recently and have chosen the Obagi Nu Derm system. You can find a lot of experiences with this product here on the forums.

It is a very intense program and expensive but well worth it. You can read more about it at www.obagi.com where they also include before and after photos. The www.makeupalley.com site also contains many reviews of this product that are quite encouraging.

This regimen takes care of everything you mentioned except for pitting acne scars. Scars that are simply a discoloration will disappear due to one of the products which contains 4% hydroquinone, basically a bleaching agent. My dermatologist said the pitting scars required laser treatment.

Hope that helps!
