I am going on a school trip for two weeks to Japan. I've never been out of England before! So I don't know what to pack, what sort of things do you need for Japan in febuary? I think its rainy. & electrical wise... my hair straightners, can I bring them? They are a three pronged socket thingy, I may just not bother and wear hats for two weeks but I'd miss my babys.

Also anyone else got any exciting holidays planned for 2008?! Very Happy

Hi Hannah-Louise! Congrats on your first trip to Japan! I still remember my first trip--- it was for two weeks too and it was so fun. Unfortunately I don't think your hair straighteners will work over there, and you're better off leaving them home anyway to lighten your load, honestly. Can you make do straightening your hair with a round brush and blow dryer? For me, I absolutely HAVE to have a blow dryer. Luckily, the dorms and hotels we stayed in always had dryers, so it wasn't an issue. However, there was one place in Tokyo where we stayed that did NOT have hair dryers, and so I just went to the nearest electronics store (there will be a billion in any large city) and bought this tiny travel dryer for about $5.

You probably already know this, but most bathrooms in Japan don't have paper towels, and some don't even have toilet paper, so you're going to want to have a small pack of tissues with you at all times, and it would be nice to carry a handkerchief to dry your hands on. (If you don't have any handkerchiefs don't worry--- they are an essential item in Japan and they basically sell them on every street corner. I bought a bunch while I lived there and still use them back in the states!)

Do you know yet which cities you will be visiting yet? One thing to keep in mind is that around the Tokyo-Nagoya-Kyoto area it's around 30-40 degrees in February, and many of the buildings do NOT have central heating, so be sure to bring some warm clothing just in case. I'll let you know if I think of anything else!
