THE VITAMIN ALPHABET

I have been told over and over again to take my vitamins (especially because I am a vegetarian). But I have been prone not to listen to this basic advice. Why? I find that if I don't understand what each vitamin does for me, I find it less essential to follow through with taking my daily multi vitamin. So I decided to make a list of vitamins (for all the ladies out there similar to me), the effect that they have on the body/skin and which foods are good sources for each vitamin.

VITAMIN A:
Essential for: normal growth and renewal of the skins cells.
Effects on the body: keeps skin tissue, red blood cells and the immune system healthy. Also acts as an antioxidant.
Can be found in: Egg yolks, dairy product, fish oil, margarine and liver.
Effects on the skin: Evens out skin tone, diminishes fine lines, increases the epidermal lifecycle and can stimulate the renewal of skin cells.

VITAMIN B:
Essential for: Protein metabolism, building red blood cells and the immune system.
Can be found in: Poultry, fish, whole grains, meat, dairy products, bananas and leafy dark green veggies.
Effects on the skin: Prevents oily skin and decreases the possibility of breakouts. It may also aid in collagen formation.

VITAMIN C:
Essential for: Collagen production and neutralizing free radicals.
Can be found in: Citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli, berries, peppers and cabbage.
Effects on the skin: Aides in healing scar tissue and protects against UVA/UVB rays.

VITAMIN D:
Essential for: The development of skin cells and also aides with calcium absorption.
Can be found in: Egg yolks, fish, liver and fortified milk.
Effects on the skin: It moisturizes and conditions the skin.

VITAMIN E:
Essential for: The growth of healthy tissue and acts as an antioxidant.
Can be found in: Nuts, vegetable oil, green leafy veggies and whole grains.
Effects on the skin: Also helps condition and moisturize the skin. It also helps to heal burns and cuts, protects against UV damage and improves skin tone.

VITAMIN F:
Essential for: part of the building block of the skin's surface.
Can be found in: Flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, safflower oil and borage seed oil.
Effects on the skin: Helpful in the treatment of acne. It also helps maintain the barrier function of the skin.

VITAMIN K:
Essential for: Helps promote blood clotting.
Can be found in: Green leafy veggies.
Effects on the skin: Can reduce bruising, dark eye circles and may help broken capillaries fade.

Thank you for this wonderful info on Vitamins. Just so everyone keeps things in check, and doesn't overdue it with vitamin supplements, here is a link that will tell you the 'toxic' repercussions of too much of a good thing..

Just do vitamins in moderation, and don't layer them. Read labels to keep the values safe. And be oh so careful with A + E if you have bleeding issues, or are on anticoagulants.
