Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask your opinions on Home TCA peels. I have only ever used 8%, but apply a second layer after 5 mins to increase the effects. I have noticed however, that the only results I get are very dry skin, instead of that nice smooth dewy effect some people get. Does this indicate I would need to increase to 12%, or apply only 1 later of 8% ?

In the few TCA peels I've done I experienced dry skin for the first few days after the peel but then that layer of skin would start either peeling or flaking off to reveal smoother, softer skin underneath. If you did not get any peeling or flaking with the two layers of 8% it might be worth a try to go for the 12% to see if that would help. I don't think decreasing the strength of the peel by applying only one layer of the 8% would help much but I've never done one that weak so I can't say for sure. |

I was thinking myself I may need a stronger one, but I didn't want to go and order the 12% if it would have made my skin even more dry,

You're welcome Jackie. I think the 12% will be more effective but if you find that even that doesn't make you flake or peel you could add a second layer the next time. I have pretty tough skin and found that 12-15% peels made me flake and the 18% made me actually peel in some areas.

| TCA peels are chemical peels that can be done at home or at a doctor's office. They are more intense than glycolic or lactic peels though and should therefore be researched carefully before deciding if you want to do one. I bought mine from makeupartistschoice. I had good results (smoother, softer skin) but the down-time required makes it hard to do these very often. |

| I agree with mamawalnut - TCA peels are not for the faint of heart. I have done 3 - 12% peels, while the final results were worth it - there is an "ugly" zone that you go through. |
