So, for the last 4 weeks i've been using Jan Marini the bioclear and transformation cream. My skin was doing well, but over the last week (for no reason) i started getting alot of breakouts. The jan marini has not helped really with scars and discolorations for past breakouts, but it helped clear my skin initally. However, 2 days ago i started using retin a-micro after the bioclear lotion and my skin is looking so much better!! So now i'm wondering if i should go all out and do the whole Obagi thing...? Has anyone had success with acne, discolorations and scars with nu-derm?
I'm really tempted to try it! |

Are the products you are using similar to Obagi. I don't have acne but I do have fine lines and hyperpigmentation. I am also thinking of doing Obagi.

Hi!
no i dont think they are simiar at all, the bioclear lotion has glycolic/salyclic acid, and the transformation cream has growth factors in it. Both really helped my acne to start with. Obagi seems like quite an investment so i want to be sure before i go ahead. |

I use Obagi and have had great results with pigmentation and acne. I don't know if it works for scars. |

I used the Obagi Nuderm and really feel it helped with scars and hyperpigmentation. I feel my skin looked fresher and brighter. I still use the retin a and the rest of the items for maintenance only. I was very happy with the results. I did not have major peeling like some say they did...Be patient, it really does work. |

I think it has really improved my acne scars too. Overall it made my skin more even toned. My acne scars were more hyperpigmentation, and not the deep pitted ones. The concept is basically shredding your old skin. I had a lot of redness and peeling, that was the hardest part....going thru my day being self conscious about it. I really like the results, its worth a try. There is so much advice in this forum...so you can see pictures, other peoples advice, and stories. |

Obagi will definitely help with the discoloration and acne. I have heard it will not work on scars, but I think the Retin A will help scars. No positive on that, though. |

Yeah, I'm on my 7th day using Obagi, so far so good, except you have to deal with peeling+redness..plus some stinging sensation at times. I have acne scars and also still have mild acne. I started using Obagi to get rid of the scars. It's been only a week now, but I can see that my acne got even milder (in fact I don't have any pimples at this point), and I can see the scars are fading out. I was fraustrated with the redness+peeling for the last few days though (and still am). But I heard you have good days and bad days while on Obagi. Today seems to be my good day. I can't wait til May/June to see the final results! I would go ahead and start on Obagi. You will get a lot of help and support from people on this forum |

sweetji830 - I am on day 9 of Obagi. Never used this product before. Maybe we can compare things as we go. Yesterday was very peelie (sp?) day for me. My husband made fun of me..
I'm not too bad today but I also didn't use the sunfader today or exfoderm. I think I'm going to try another form of sunscreen than the Obagi sunfader. What products are you using? I started using Obagi for my sunspots from tanning in my younger years.
I can't wait for the end of June. |

Hi MrsDowFire,
great idea about comparing and sharing the experience. I'm currently using the full set of Obagi Nu-Derm. My mom got it for me and she got the normal/dry kit instead of normal/oily. I posted a question on this forum asking if there's a cruicial difference btwn the two (only difference I found was the oily kit's cleanser is called Foaming Cleanser and it has Exfoderm Forte instead of Exfoderm). I just went ahead using the normal/dry kit after reading people's advice that it'd be okay. So far, so good...though I did purchase Foaming Cleanser and Exfoderm Forte separately just in case.
I'm not peeling that bad today..I was horrible 2 days ago. The redness isn't so bad either, but we'll see how it goes. I couldn't help but rub off the dead skin with my fingers (gently enough) while in shower+washing my face at night... maybe that's why i'm not shedding like a snake today? |

I also have the normal/dry sensitive kit. Are you using the Sunfader?
I am very dry around mouth and upper lip area today and can see the flaking and dryness. I didn't use the exfoderm again today. I'm not sure I need it. I used a touch of lotion in that area just to help with how I look but it didn't help much. I have to get out an get some microfiber face cloths and order some Obagi Action I guess.
Not a good day for me. |

I'm using #6 and the SPF35 sunscreen lotion that came with the kit. I'm not skipping any steps, and I use the blender+tretinoin every other day.
So my peeling has decreased for the last 3 days or so...and remarkably, I'm not peeling at all today. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing though. I'm kinda still red, and I found that the day after I use blender I'm usually more red, but my skin looks better (i.e. less peeling...). Weird thing is, I actually feel very oily today and had been using blotting tissues all morning! I don't know if this is a normal thing. I better update my original thread and ask people...
but anyway, hang in there! I'm guessing the skin sheds off the old layer for a few days in a row and then stops...and then sheds again? And I read that others also take different approaches in applying the product, it's all different for each invidual I guess. You'll have a good day soon
I'm hoping my skin won't flip out and start shedding like crazy again tomorrow and over the wknd...I'm throwing a party at my house on saturday and really worried. I'd rather stay oily til then =T |

I have been a full Obagi user (except for eye cream) for 2 years now. Great results. I had very acne prone skin and now my breakouts are very minimal. My skin tone has really evened out! I love it! Yes, its an investment, but for me- worth every penny. I use Tretinoin every night. I had some initial redness and flakes, but never bad peeling. Initially my breakouts got worse berfore they diminished. You have to stick with it - it took at least 6 weeks to get over the hump. |

Matherton,
I have used both products. I have oily/t-zone skin. Very large pores and some acne and ice pick scaring. The Jan Marini was definitely a step in the right direction and did wonders for my skin although it did not help with hyperpigmentation and sun spots. It helped moderately with the congested pores. I am in week 10 of Obagi and have seen a tremendous difference. My skin tone is even. My scarring has totally faded. My skin is so much smoother. My pores are not nearly as congested (they were pretty bumpy before) I am so pleased with the results. Nothing I have tried before has given me skin that looks like this. Goods luck with whatever you try!

If you stick with Obagi and do your regimen, you will have fantastic results by the time you reach week 12! I've ben using since 2005 and I will not stop using. It is fantastic!!! |
